Philly dinner at Morimoto? anyone?

I would have to come all by my lonesome but pick a date and let us all know

Boy, I remember when The Commissary and Frog were the HOT HOT HOT places in Philly.

Sushi? Mmmmmmmmmm…maybe !

Sounds like fun, butprice is out of the ballpark for moi and I right now. We’d be interested in a more affordable resturant though. Perhaps for the next bi-weekly?

I’m thinking of calling this week to find out what their reservation schedule looks like. I was thinking of a Saturday night, but we could decide on really anything (I’d prefer Thurs-Sat.). They take reservations up to 10pm so we could plan something late-evening, say 7-8pm?

tdc, are you sure you and moi can’t make it? This is a one-time thing for me and possibly the rest of us and I’d hate to see you regret not going. We would love to have you two join us.

The current count I see is 7:
me
TruePisces
Verrain
Jadis
MsRobyn
(what about Airman?)
Meros

If you want to be added or removed from this list please let me know. We will need a definite count for this dinner, unlike our Friday’s dinner in Feb.

Only problem for it all is I am booked with a gig for every night next weekend. :frowning: If it’s the only time y’all can do it then please, by all means, don’t worry about me. I’ll just have to put some serious planning intop the Christian Dopers’ Potluck

Frank #2, we’d love to, but with moi in grad school, money is just a bit too tight to justify $100+ dinners.

Cheers,

tdc

I might be interested, depending when the dinner is and what else I have going on. (I think I’m running about one free Saturday night a month.)

a quick check of the website (http://www.morimotorestaurant.com/main.html) and a scan of prices finds that there are things that can fit into all sorts of budgets. i’m not a major sushi person, but i like some of the other menu offerings.

lunch may be a bit less money.

tdc, it’s understandable if you can’t make it. We’ll just catch up with you and moi on a different dinner night.

rc, a dinner could be had for under $50 if there isn’t much splurging. Me, I’m going to splurge. I’l never be back to a place like Morimoto so I want to make it the best it can be.

I only make the remark about the sushi because that is what I want. There are many options to choose from, including lobster, bass, yellowtail, steak, chicken, and the “chef’s choice”.

Lunch looks to be a little cheaper, but it may be a reduced menu. Hard to tell. I could only do a lunch on the weekend though.

Sadly, it looks like Airman will be out of pocket for a little while, and not able to share our company for a little while.

I’m in. . .I could zip down from Harrisburg on a Saturday night for dinner with youses guyses. Let me know what’s up.

does happy dance at thought of seeing Zappo again

Robin, does that mean Airman got the call?

An update on reservations:

A Saturday night needs to be booked at least 6 weeks in advance.
A Friday night only needs about 4 weeks notice.

They have 2 large tables that can accomodate our group (I’m guessing about 8 or 9). They will only take reservations at these tables at 6:00, 6:30, 9:00, or 9:30.

So it looks like this dinner will be around the end of April, beginning of May. If no one has any schedule conflicts or concerns then I’ll look for a Saturday dinner at 6:30.

Some more cool pics of Morimoto can be found here.

Depending on the date, I’d probably go. Put me down as a maybe.

If you mean the call from Tommy offering us the Vacation of a Lifetime at Disney World, yes.

Reservations have been made!

Saturday, April 19th. 9:30pm (8 people tenatively. can be changed)

I hope this date is acceptable for everyone as I didn’t have much of a choice. My only other options were this Saturday, April 5th, or something in late May, early June.

I’m hoping to be there.

I have a commitment for the afternoon and early evening, but since the reservation’s for 9:30 and I’m in Philadelphia for Easter anyway, I’m hoping to make it!

Is this restaurant Aaron-friendly? It’d be late for him, but he’d sleep on the way there and on the way home. On the other hand, I don’t know how the tables are set up (the site I did see mentioned food prepared tableside), so I’m not sure if it’d be safe for Aaron to be there.

Hmmm…

(I’m still going; I just need to know if Aaron would be welcome.)
