Philly Dopefest on April 19th

Tour

Meet at noon on the southeast corner of 6th and Market. (For the directionally impaired, that on the Mall side of 6th street, and on the side of Market that is closer to Independence Hall, which is visible a block away looking down the Mall.) There is a relatively non-permanent structure there; it was the location of Washington’s house when he was President, and they found remains of the slave quarters when they were doing some excavation a few years ago.

The weather forecast for Sunday is currently calling for 60 degrees and cloudy; last night they were saying showers, so you may want to wear a jacket with a hood or bring along an umbrella.

If anyone would like to swap cell numbers, PM me.

(And Little Nemo – there are undoubtedly people who could recommend comics or CD stores who aren’t reading this thread – it might make sense to start a new thread for that.)

If I’m lucky, I’ll get to sleep this weekend. Brunch is not happening. Sorry, folks; some other time.

Negative for me, too.

Will anyone be needing a ride on Sunday? I’ll be driving over from New Jersey to meet people at noon.

Sorry you can’t make it, gentlemen.

I have confirmed the reservation for 13: 10 adults and 3 kids. Meros, if you end up being able to make it also, fine, that’s not a problem.

My printer apparently channeled its Cheyenne ancestors and decided today would be a good day to die. After a hour of conversation with “Jake” it was decided the condition was irretrievable and they’ll be shipping me a new printer.

Which unfortunately does nothing for me this weekend. Now I can’t print out any of the useful things I have on my computer like my hotel reservation or the meeting information or mapquest.

Aaaack! :::running around waving arms in the air:::

My car is overheating and I can’t afford car repairs. Even if the liquid radiator leak plugger stuff works, a road trip in an unreliable car would not be wise.

I’m sorry Twicks, I hope my notice is prior to your deadline.

Oh no! I’m sorry your car is acting up again. Can you borrow Mom’s car?

I was able to change the reservation, no problem – I’m just sorry you’re having car troubles. They suck at the best of times, but you really see your life flashing before your eyes when shit like this happens when you’re unemployed.

Public answer to a private message: I’m going to give the tour a miss, but I’ll definitely be at brunch. See everyone tomorrow!

ETA: And by “tomorrow”, of course, I mean “Sunday”. Four-day weekends screw with my mental timetable quite badly.

We’ll look forward to that.

For those who are planning to tour: the weather forecast now says the showers won’t start till evening; “cloudy, high of 61” is the daytime prediction.

It seems I may not be able to make it.

My team needs to do a service-learning at the Franklin. This will eat up what time I was planning to use on the tour. I will still attempt to come but it’s not looking good. I am very upset. :frowning:

Dang! I used to live in the Philly area, and would LOOOOOOVE to meet some Dopers.

If there’s anything EVER like that out in the Los Angeles area, please let me know.

Yikes! and the whole thing was your idea!

I’ll leave it to Alanis Morrisette to figure out if that’s ironic – but it’s certainly a damned shame.

Home again, resting our legs. Thanks to twickster for the guided tour that was truly worth every penny!

Just wanted to thank Twickster again for organizing everything.

Glad everyone had a good time!

Didn’t take too many pix, but here’s Hal Briston, Cleophus, and Uncle Bill; here’s Daphne Black, Little Nemo, and Ryobserver; and here’s Uncle Bill, Geobabe, and their truly delightful sons, Liam and James (or is that James and Liam?)

I’m going to guess your first guess is right: Liam covering face and James with the wide open smile.

I’m so sorry I missed the festivities! It looks like everyone had a great time.

Yeah, it was a lot of fun – esp. once everyone came to terms with the fact that I’m not actually all that knowledgeable about American history.

Thanks twicks for organising! Twas an excellent afternoon.
