Pick 3 cars. Only 3 cars...

When it becomes illegal someday for me to use anything that’s not self-driving, will you retrofit my 3 cars (or replace them if retrofit isn’t possible) or will I be stuck walking?

How about if anything other than electric becomes illegal?

Thanks to the power of special interests, if you’re old enough to be posting on SDMB by now, it probably won’t be an issue for you or even your kids. Your grandchildren might but at least they’ll potentially up to 3 really cool classic cars to inherit.

  1. Aston Martin Vantage V12 (me / me + wife)
  2. Audi S4 (wife / family)
  3. Nissan Patrol

P.S.: Why can’t some people simply have fun in these threads? Why is it always “What if cars with four wheels become illegal?” or some hypothetical-fighting shit?

A Bugatti Veyron for fun

A Toyota Camry for practical driving

And I suppose some type of pickup truck, just in case, since I can’t rent other vehicles and drive them

First I’d need an old school car but with modern driving dynamics. Make it either a '69 Camaro or a '70-'73 Trans Am and fitted with a full pro-touring suspension, big 4-wheel disc brakes, an LT1 engine (that’s what’s in the new Corvette) and 6-speed manual.

Next I’d want some euro exotic that trumpets that high pitched wail for canyon carving. A Ferrari 430 would do nicely.

And finally, of course, a Tesla Model S P85+ for all other driving.

'fraid not; its 3 cars total - you can request that the cars you own are among your 3, but not drive them then have another 3. Otherwise, EMP!

They are given ‘as is’ and maintained to that end, so if that happens you’ll have to fork out for a retrofit yourself. Although I think that’s extremely unlikely, as pointed out above it’s legal to drive a Model T on the public highway.
