Ned Flanders is a Christian Democrat. While not a socialist per se, he is the personification of “Love Thy Neighbor” and fully believes that we as a society need to do right by the underprivileged.

Ok, but you know that the definition of lowercase r “republican” is the antithesis of a royalist?*

Sounds about right though, not exactly a weak monarch, but not without democratic reform. All will be fine until the people find out how much she’s spending from the royal coffers on hair-cinnamon bun work.

*Unless you’re one of those far-right/far-left people on the internet who bemoans/celebrates your belief that the US “is not a democracy,” confusing that term with “direct democracy” and republic with “representative democracy.”

I think McCoy in one episode said flat out, “I vote Republican.” Wish I could provide a cite.

But I was shocked . . . shocked . . . and appalled.

Eh. New York Republicans are very different from those outside of the Northeast, and tend to be pretty liberal even for that region. I have no gripe with them, except that they tend to endorse crazier republicans elsewhere.

As much as I love King of the Hill, I do have to say that the most unbelievable aspect of Hank is that he’s ok with homosexuality. As you said, he’d be against gay marriage for religious reasons, and yeah probably be ok with a civil union type of thing, but given everything else we know about him (born* and raised in Texas, conservative, religious, traditional, strong ‘family values’,) it seems to me he would be the type that, while not standing out there with a ‘God Hate Fags’ sign, would just say,

“It’s wrong! A man goes with a woman, everyone knows that!” in his exasperated “I’m the only sane mane in an insane world” voice.

Born and raised in Texas, conservative, religious, traditional, strong ‘family values’ includes several close friends of mine. None of them have any problems with Teh Gay. Conservatism holds a really big umbrella, and even where they’re concerned about the ‘decay of moral fabric’ they tend to also love their neighbors. One has a very gay brother and they all have gay friends who they love, honor, and cherish. It takes all sorts to make a world.

I think you just stumbled onto it: Superman doesn’t vote, because it would amount to stuffing the ballot box after Clark Kent voted.

I was reading an article somewhere where they were discussing Superman’s immigration status. I think the determination was that an abandoned child found in the US is deemed to be a US citizen unless proof is found before the child turns 18 (I’m not sure if the proof has to be presented to a court or INS to ‘count’). If the child turns 18 and proof is later found of foreign birth, he is still deemed a citizen because it’s too late now. Arguably, you might also also make the case that the spaceship he was sent in was an artificial birthing chamber and therefore he was actually “born” on US soil as he came out of the ship only after it landed in Kansas.

The born-on-US-soil bit was definitely true in the Byrne revamp.

Robin is a naturalized US citizen. I assume that someone at INS lost a bet so we had to take her.

What do you mean lost?! I think the US comes out a net winner in that situation, so long as she never reverts back to Robin Sparkles.

Also, technically, she has dual citizenship with Canada. That way, she could rob a liquor store while still saying sorry when someone bumps into her.
Also, she’s scared of the dark.

Seasons 1-10 Ned fits this, but in later seasons the writers turned Ned into your typical “God hate fags,” “teach creationism in school,” etc… style-Christian.
