Okay, barring a Constitutional suspension or a surprise win by a third party candidate, we know that in slightly less than an eternity (or at least what will seem like it) either Barak Obama or John McCain will be the next President of the US. I’m not so much interested in who you think will win, but in who you think will bitch the loudest when/if they discover that their guy has lost.
If McCain wins, are we going to have the screaming matches and cries of vote rigging that we’ve had with the past two Presidential elections? Or is everyone going to be relatively sedate about the matter (excluding those idiots who’ll scream fraud, etc. even if a video surfaces of Obama performing an “unnatural act” with a dead horse)?
If Obama gets it, will we find ourselves deafened by cries of “He’s a socialist!” or “He’s a gun grabber!” or will those pulling for McCain accept defeat gracefully?
Or, do you think that no matter who wins, we’ll have to spend at least the next year listening to the losing side bitch at every opportunity (including in threads utterly unrelated to politics)? (I think that this one is the most likely of all of 'em.)
Do you mean on the SDMB, or the general public? If the latter, I will maintain my right for equal opportunity kvetching.
BTW, good to see a post from you, seems awhile.
As for your OP, I think the answer or my opinion at least is the Democrats will bitch the most if McCain wins. It will be in my opinion a monumental loss for the dems, to put an extension of Bush back in office, with a #2 who is … ahem … not exactly VP material. Not only that, McCain will not do much to improve our image in the world, and it will represent that the United States cannot move past our republican, conservative, corruption-filled, torturous last 8 years.
In my opinion the republicans wouldn’t bitch too much when Obama wins, they’ve had their time in power for along while…we won’t hear too much from them.
After the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections, there was a huge amount of bitching from the Democrats. After the 2006 senatorial election, nary a peep from the Republicans. Based on that limited evidence, I’d say that Democrats are sore losers and Republicans aren’t. But really, it’s not a sufficient data set.
I agree that there will be a LOT of moaning if McCain wins, although I think the amount and tenor will depend a lot on how close it is. If he wins decisively, with exit polling backing up the margin of victory, only fringe lunatics will randomly start throwing around charges of election fraud. If he wins another one that resembles 2004, or, God forbid, 2000, then all bets are off.
If McCain wins, I wouldn’t be surprised if we see cries of “the vote was rigged!” from our Left-leaning contingent. We’ve already seen signs of Republican voter purging in areas, so I’m not sure the vote-rigging paranoia isn’t entirely unwarranted.
If Obama wins, expect the Right-leaning Dopers to blame anything, and everything, on Obama. Economy melts down? Obamadiddit. Aliens attack? Obamadiddit. Hangnail? Obamadiddit. No matter how outlandish the link or tenuous the connection, they’ll find a way to blame Obama for it.
I’d be a bit surprised to see any accusations of vote-tampering from them, though- they know we’ll call 'em on the hypocrisy.
If the rest of the conservative data set is like my mother, expect to hear disgusted sighs any time Obama is mentioned should he be elected President. I don’t know if that counts, though.
Democrats. After Clinton’s Presidency, Gore should have won in a route. After Bush’s first term, Kerry should have won it going away and still didn’t. After Bush’s second term exceeded pretty much every Democrat’s worst fears, if McCain STILL gets elected IMHO there are going to be some PHENOMENALLY pissed off people, and some awfully divisive politics for the next 4 years.
I think if McCain wins the left will be shrill and slightly hysterical.
I think if Obama wins the right will make their whining during the Clinton years look reserved. I think elements on the right will drop any pretense of not being racists and will go from gator hats and cod words to straight up hate speech. I also think there will be elements from the right who will become violent.
So, I’d go with the righties, if you condsier pipe bombs at the Olympics type actions as pissing and moaning.
ETA: I meant the population at large, not on this board.
When Obama loses, his congregation will shriek like a chorus of scalded cats, proclaiming fraud and racism.
This may well be drowned out by Hillary’s minions wailing like Banshees, beating thier breasts and gnashing teeth. *“I told you so!” *will echo through the hills and valleys for the next four years.
