A small part of me wonders if this is connected to Martin_Hyde suddenly having a lot more free time.
His latest post in ATMB:
Perhaps by “errands to run” he means “check on some other sock accounts”?
He is not that smart. It would be an Oscar worthy performance just to type and spell as well as Martin.
His Confabulator takes up a lot of computer processing speed, so he will get back to us. Sometime in the early hours after most of the Mods have retired for the night.
And what a sweet, reasonable set of responses they are. What a nice guy! You can’t stay annoyed at a guy who is just so darn likeable. I’m only going to say this once. Later on I may something completely contradictory. But there will be sweet reason behind it!
You assume that such people are able to post via rational processes. A typical troll-like person tends to post by compulsion more than anything else.
He certainly sounds proud of himself for it.
BWAHH!! If that were the case, that person should enter the SDMB hall of fame, Best Troll Ever.

It is not that hard to act stupid, when pissing people off is your motivation.
All of Jimbee’s threads are like that. Although in this case it’s hard to believe that anyone this ineffably clueless is allowed to run loose in the general population, but I suppose he might be posting from the confines of a mental institution.
The problem I have is that he has suddenly switched to making sense before. Suddenly he could form a coherent argument. I mentioned it up above. Others suggested what he said was still stupid. I agree the underlying idea was dumb. But, when he needed to defend himself, he was suddenly able to construct a logical argument.
I could believe someone legitimately be as loopy as he often seems. I can believe someone with extreme gaps in their knowledge, due to thinking they are smarter than they actually are. I could even believe someone who lacked the introspection to notice his beliefs contradicted each other. But being able to turn it off when he thought it mattered? That tells me that his posting style is a shtick.
So very this.
Just in recent posts, 90% is uncharacteristically coherent. Then, at the end, he sprinkles in a little of that false naïveté.
It’s sealed the deal for me. I was on the fence about this for years, but no longer.
I was starting to be convinced he’s a troll rather than intellectually challenged, but then he informed us that WE described him as “rambling” in this here thread. Now I’m convinced. He’s a rambling, intellectually challenged troll.
Here is one:
“Racist ramblings” from a flash-in-the-pan poster described as a troll. Posted one thread in support of scientific racism, then protested its closure and vanished.

Another person described as a troll, rambling about Trump. They were blocked as a trock (troll/sock). So an actual blocked troll who was rambling.
A real oldie going back to 2000 when this board was new, back then the idea of a “rambling troll” was already old news.
I could go on and on, but there are PAGES of this. I was not kidding when I said it is one of the most common ways to troll people. Peruse this at your leisure. It’s lengthy.
Thanks for moving this, I was answering a question from ATMB but I agree it’s better in the Pit.
It got flagged instantly while I was trying to decide what to do about it. Clearly you wrote it up before seeing ECG’s post. So I figured a move would work best.

Sorry, but I have to disagree. A good answer to a dumb question like that would have been silence.
Whether he’s doing it for the trolling lolz or due to personal issues, JimB posts like he does for attention. He wasn’t sincerely looking for an answer.
