And I would point out that (in my experience) RickJay tends to be the one who is more willing to give the benefit of the doubt for things that seem racist or bigoted, trying to understand why someone might not realize what they said was racist, or have just worded things poorly.
So if he thinks a thread is so racist it needs to be closed, then you very clearly went over the line.
It’s not unnecessary- someone who doesn’t have “authority” in that space steps in with a to help with a judgement call. The person with “authority” is thanking them for the help and, implicitly, affirming the call.
Nice that one of those things is already covered so you agnostic, almost atheist, non-belief in the power of OLoMC doesn’t need to be taxed.

Funny thing is as a group we have often let Jim_B off with just a note. Here is a thread that is retrospect I am thinking we were too light on him. Bothering QtM for no good reason verges on Trolling or more likely actually passes the line.

One thread I had to cornfield as he linked to a for profit site promoting it as a charity. Even if it was a legit charity, as I think most regulars know, posters need to ask permission of the Mods first. He got no warning for this thread but then compounded it with an ATMB thread again bringing up the For Profit corp. That finally drew warning.
Utterly unrelated, but I hate how Discourse only shows avatars (and not user names) on quotes. Maybe it’s the skin I use, but it’s so annoying. I find that and the weird quote behavior for OPs and posts directly above, to be a big annoyance.

Oh, and you’re wondering if I call people out in real life? I was in an Uber a couple years back, and the driver started ranting about the Bangladeshi drivers who were taking all the routes and their filthy habits (which consisted, confoundingly, of washing their feet in rest-stop sinks–i.e., it was filthy to have clean feet). I stopped him and told him that this was racist and I didn’t want to hear it. So yeah, I’ve called someone racist in person for an almost identically racist rant.
It might be the Theme because on quoted members I get a micro-avatar about a quarter the size of the one for the post and the member’s name with a colon after.
My selected Theme, found in Preferences/Interface, is Straight Dope Light.

I can see the name when the quote is from the same thread but not when the quote is from a different thread. In that circumstance the real estate that would be the username is replaced with the thread title and forum.
If Jim_B isn’t the troll his posts make him appear to be I don’t want to hurt his feelings, so I’ll respond in this roundabout way.
A sensible person who felt moderation was problematic would post in ATMB. A fool, someone with cerebral diarrhea or a troll would write something like this.
“For the same reason”? I think, only because it’s the only interpretation that makes a modicum of sense, he means “as to not chance fate”. But that’s either nonsense (why would it be a problem to link to any thread from the pit?) or trollish as all heck.
No offense, but you posted something that was incredibly racist. Didn’t try to verify it. Then, instead of asking if it could possibly be true that Pakistani taxi drivers stink of BO, you asked if could be true that religious discrimination laws would protect them.
That is the act of someone who is either so racist they don’t question their memory of a blatantly racist story, or a troll. Or both.
I’m not commenting on whether this means you are a racist, a troll, dumb as two short planks, a combination of all three or none of them, Jim_B. But I feel compelled to state the facts.

I just want to add, before this is closed, that I was enormously pissed off at the way he tried to implicate me with his criticism of the moderation here by implying that I agreed with him. What I actually said was the exact opposite, along with the suggestion that he should be warned for criticizing moderation outside of ATMB. It’s hard to believe that anyone could be so comprehension-impaired as not to understand what I actually said. It’s not particularly hard to believe that Jim_B is (was) a fucking lying troll.
