On the other hand, Lynne has not, to my knowledge, forbidden anyone to remark that they think that Tamerlane is a credit to these boards, and a wealth of useful information on things Middle Eastern and beyond, as well as unfailingly polite, bright, and erudite. So I’m saying it.

I was worried there for a moment Tamerlane. I mean seriously? You? Getting pitted? Far out! I can’t imagine anyone on this messageboard who writes in such articulate, informative ways - whilst also showing respect for fellow Dopers and yet politely disagreeing at the same time if you wish.
I haven’t read the linked thread in question - I merely wished to comment on how amazingly surprised I was to see your name being mentioned. Thankfully, it looks as though it was all a bit of a ruse.
Well not entirely boo boo. AOB really did say those things about Tamerlane. It was in GD, not here, and Tamerlane invited AOB to pit him. I thought the kinds of thing that AOB was saying about Tamerlane were just absurd enough to be held up to wider ridicule, and brought AOB’s Pit-like comments here, where I thought the general population would enjoy a reverse pitting for the pit attempt … or something like that.
Well then, my friend! I’m off to read the thread!

Perhaps “a sarcasm thread, piled high and caked deep with the substance in question” would be better phrasing.
