It’s wrong for an adult to heap abuse on a kid for being fat or having pimples. But if you’re old enough to express a political philosophy, then you’re old enough to take criticism like an adult.
Not personal abuse or criticism, mind you. If that’s what we’re talking about then of course that’s reprehensible, whether it be a child or adult. But your beliefs and the life experience (or lack thereof) that informs those beliefs are all fair game.
Yikes gamerun, you’ve really missed the boat on this thread. No worries, but…
No, somewhat-older-teen-Krohn was responding to an accusation. He was pointing out how ludicrous it was.
No. Parents applaud loudly and politely at the end of the speech. The crowd did something else, at least according to one witness of the YouTube vids:
Yes, yes gamerun was making wisecracks. And I’m making pedantries. It’s all good.
Yes, the conservative behavior is indeed an outrage. I can only conclude that… ( ::looks upthread:: ) Oh. Never mind.
Jokes aside, I hold message board posts in the pit to a different standard than well heeled web publications. But if you want to argue the Daily Caller is comparable to the SDMB’s BBQ Pit in terms of sanity, rabidity and class I won’t disagree. Except to say that occasionally the logic here is a little better.
Overall though, I’d say that the future NYU student seems to be taking this in stride: he’s doing the proper thing, which is to laugh off his former attempts at self-promotion. I wouldn’t be surprised if he became a mostly ordinary doctor or lawyer. Mostly: like hundreds of thousands of others, he also has an unpublished screenplay. Ah, youth.
