Pizza Toppings

I’m sure this subject has been addressed before, but I don’t feel like using the fickle search engine to try to find it. So there!

We’re having an office Christmas party tomorrow and (since I’m the administrative support) I’m in charge of organizing it. We’re doing it the easy, simple way this year. No pot luck. Just pizza, pop and presents (gift exchange).

Anyway, I got a consensus on toppings for the various pizzas and I’m curious about two things:

1. Does anyone get anchovies on their pizza? And I don’t mean “every once in a while” - is there anyone out there who gets anchovies on their pizza EVERY TIME?

2. What is your “regular” pizza? I’m looking for vendor, toppings, and crust type here.

For delivery, I don’t care where the pizza comes from as long as I can get a traditional crust. I have two favorites. Pepperoni, mushroom and onion - ham and pineapple. There’s a small chain here in Minnesota called DaVanni’s that makes a very good white pizza (garlic sauce instead of red sauce) which is excellent with tomatoes, onions and mushrooms.

My all-time favorite pizza is Old Chicago’s deep-dish with the following veggies: broccoli, garlic, mushrooms, onions, and roma tomatoes. HEAVEN!
[li]I’ve only had anchovies on one pizza. I ate it, but it wasn’t my favorite, and I certainly wouldn’t order it again.[/li]
I don’t know anyone who regularly orders it. When I worked at Domino’s, we didn’t even have it in stock.

I think it must’ve originated as some regional preference, then others picked up on it to gross out their friends.

[li]My regular is Domino’s regular crust with pepperoni, mushrooms, and sausage (PMS :)). I used to order a Deluxe, which is the same with green peppers and onions. But they don’t seem to know that term anymore.[/li]
Other favorite combos:
[li]Sausage, Black Olive, & Onion*****[/li][li]Ham & Pineapple*****[/li][li]Pepperoni & Banana Peppers[/li][li]Extravaganza (nine toppings: Pepperoni, Sausage, Mushrooms, Green Peppers, Onions, Extra Cheese, Black Olive, Ground Beef, and Ham)
[/li]***** - wife’s preference

For a pizza,its gotta be thick,plain crust,with extra cheese. I’ve Never tried anchovies,after all I’ve hear,I’m afraid to!

Ah! Another Domino’s veteran!

 1. I like anchovies when they’re included with other strong-tasting toppings (onion, peppers, capers), but don’t often get them because my spouse hates them. I only had anchovies alone once–on a “Pizza Neopolitana” in Palermo; it nearly wiped me out. But, being surrounded by Sicilian soccer fans, I did the macho thing and ate it all. When I worked at Domino’s, there was one regular client who frequently ordered double-anchovy… but as a rule, we called to confim every anchovy order.

 2. Regular Pizza Vendor & Toppings? In most large cities, I prefer Domino’s. In northern Nevada and California, I love Roundtable. Where I live now, we’ve only got a Pizza Hut (which has improved) and a chain that also has locations in beautiful Midland and Monahans. I like my pizzas simple: mushroom only, black olive only, mushroom and black olive, mushroom and onion, black olive and onion and caper, etc. (I do admit a fondness for Pizza Hut’s chicken topping, though…) And always: THIN crust only!

I don’t know if you have Godfathers Pizza there but as chains go they were pretty good. My favorite topping combo is black AND green olives. My friend who is reading over my shoulder as I type likes pepperoni - but then that’s the topping 9 out of 10 guys will name if you ask. Second choice combo for me is extra cheese and onion…he says he hates onion on pizza — shut up — okay, so we both agree that bbq chicken pizza is good, too. Hard to find though.

Yankee, I could just about live on Godfather’s pizza, but unfortunately when I move from Colorado, I moved away from the franchise.

I suppose my current fave would be Papa John’s thin crust, double mushroom, extra cheese, and sausage.

Well, shut my mouth. It’s also illegal to put squirrels down your pants for the purposes of gambling.

MMmm gotta be Bogie’s Hawaiian. Smoked Ham and Pineapple with a thick sourdough crust. Actually all their pizza’s are good, but they are a small family owned restaurant in my area. Willow St. Woodfire is my second choice coz they offer alot of unusual toppings but their crust is more thin cracker-like. Least of all I would choose the pizza in Paris. I don’t care what anyone says… whole fried eggs just don’t belong on a pizza!

I really try to be good but it just isn’t in my nature!

Not a lot of pizza joints here in Kansas. I do like a thin crust supreme from Pizza Hut though. Every now and then I get a large, thin crust, with pepporoni, mushrooms, and black olives.

Anchovies and pineapple! The perfect combination of salty/sweet. Yum.

I never realized there was a city, much less a state, in this country that was not overrun with pizza joints. I figured that in the U.S., a pizza place, a 7-eleven, and a McDonald’s were all you needed in order to obtain a city charter.

Full pizza:

Pizzaria: A small place down the street from my place. Not part of a chain.

Crust: No choice. Dunno how to describe.

Toppings: Bacon and Ground Beef; or Bacon, Ground Beef and Pepperoni. (Yeah, I’m a carnivore.)

Slice:

Pizzaria: A small place downtown, also not a chain.

Crust: Ditto the above. It’s really quite thin, though.

Toppings: Pineapple, ham, and pepperoni.

Eschew Obfuscation

I would get anchovies every time, but everyone else complains. So I usually ask for anchovies on the side and put them on myself (in a pizzeria) or get them from a can if I have any (at home).

My favourite pizza:
Thai Chicken pizza.

Pizza Hut’s thin crust, IMHO, is about as tasty as a Ritz Cracker. BLECH!

We get at least one order for anchovies every night, so we rarely call to confirm an order with anchovies.

If you want a generic pizza that should satisfy everybody, order Pizza Hut hand tossed Meatlover’s. You could also order a Veggielover’s to satisfy the vegetarians in your crowd.

if i had to buy pizza for a large group i would just get cheese
or maybe a couple with cheese and a couple with peperoni

you could be clever and put out a tray of toppings and let them make their own pizza

but as far as anchovies…
i tasted them once as a child and didn’t like them.
last year i gave them another chance. UGH! they taste like salty cat food

My current favorite is Papa Murphy’s Chicago style. Stufed crust with every meat in the place piled on there. Second is probably Garlic chicken.

Big problem is the chicago style cooks slower than the other pizza I order it with… so while the pepperoni is burning, the chicago is still gooey. Bleh

Computers have let mankind make mistakes faster than any other invention, with the possible exception of tequila and handguns.

Everyone I tell this to thinks it’s disgusting, but when I was at college in Redlands, CA., there was a local Pizza chain called Gay '90’s which had incredible pizza. My favorite was Pepperoni, Pinapple, and CASHEW. The cashews were so popular in Redlands that even the national chains like Little Caesar’s, Round Table and Pizza Hut offered them locally. (Domino’s never did though).

Anyone else any experience with cashews on pizza?

I spit on your chain store pizzas!

My fave from a local pizzaria (family-run):

thin crust
Feta
Artichokes
Italian sausage (crumbled, not sliced).

Vahalla.

Or even Valhalla.

I’m really amazed at how many folks like pineapple (w/ or w/o ham) on their pizza! I’ll eat it if that’s all there is, but I’d never order it myself.

I’m a meat-eater, so my pizza MUST have pepperoni and sausage. I also like black olives and green peppers. I usually go for Domino’s (regular crust) - I really don’t like Pizza Hut pizza, and there aren’t that many other places around here that deliver.

If I had my druthers, tho, I’d only EVER eat Joe Peep’s 5694-Calorie (or something like that) House Special. Peep’s is located in North Hollywood (just down the street from where I used to live) and has been voted the best pizza in the LA/Valley several times. The joint’s a real dive, where you are free to graffiti the walls if you wish, they’ve got two rickety patio tables with assorted cheesy lawn chairs, paper plates, no cups/glasses… but WHATTA pizza!

FYI, they claim they’ll deliver ANYWHERE, but I don’t think I could afford the delivery charge from LA to SF…

I am too in shape! :::muttering::: Round is a shape.
C’mon up and see me sometime.

When Im home (California) for a visit it has to be Little Caesar’s thick crust with tomatos and bell peppers. Here in Copenhagen there’s a pizza parlor called Manhattan Pizza Company that serves a corn-and-pineapple pizza. Sounds weird, tastes heavenly. (It’s actually kinda funny - a restaurant in Denmark, run by a Chinese family, serving pseudo-Italian food to all the American tourists.) Otherwise I go to one of the little mom-and-pop shawarma-pizza places and get a vegetarian pizza.
