I remember a sock puppet dog for an online pet supplies company, and a college kid belching the alphabet, and people in white t-shirts with words printed on them being placed next to each other. I’d use the YouTube search engine, but don’t have a starting point.
What are you talking about?
The sock puppet dog was in commercials for Pets.com. Several commercials are here.
A search string on YouTube brings up quite a few, too.
The dude belching the alphabet was in an ad for an online textbook seller. It might have been eCampus.com, but I’m not sure. They also had an ad with a couple of college girls staring fascinated at a lava lamp. Both ads used the same tag line, something to the effect of “bringing college students the intellectual stimulation they so desperately need.”
Here is the ecampus.com alphabet-belching commercial.
I wouldn’t throw the Amazon.com Sweatermen in there- not only were the ads cute in a silly way, the company is still around. I’m also on the fence with Outpost.com, but I’d think they fit the bill- the ads are well-remembered, but nobody remembers what the company was- which was the whole point of them throwing guinea pigs through the name and having a marching band spelling out the name attacked by wolves.
Tom Green starred in some crappy ads for bigwords.com, another online textbook seller.
Who could forget Stewart helping his boss use Ameritrade to buy shares in K-Mart, which shortly afterward went bankrupt?
