I really like that commercial

It was just on again – the E-Tour spot with those alien-high-fashion-model-lookin’ gals struttin’ down an alley in Assboink, Iowa – catchy little tune playin’ in the background – everybody gawkin’ at these absolutely fluorescent women – and they walk up to the freckle-faced gal-next-door-type hangin’ out the wash. (Enough apostrophes in that sentence? I’m going for effect.)

I mean, it’s actually pretty silly. Freckles is more likely to shop at the local Wal-Mart than on-line.

But there’s something about those women and their attitude.

I really like it. It’s my favorite commercial right now.

What’s yours?

I like the Charles Schwab commercial with all the retired athletes knitting, playing shuffleboard & bingo, etc. LOL the first time I saw it.

Haven’t seen it for a while, and don’t remember what it was for but…

A bunch of regular guys sitting around a neighborhood bar; shot in black and white, and they all deadpan “chick” sayings, e.g. “do I look fat in this?” “I have to face it, I have my mother’s thighs.”

Sly, hilarious stuff.

TVeblen, that was a commercial for Special K, IIRC. That was pretty funny!

Yep…Special K…thought that one was hilarious.

Also (on a vaguely related note) - a recent Oil of Olay campaign:

The husbands/boyfriends saying various things that their SO’s misinterpret. ie: ‘All I said is I’m glad you’re working out. What’s wrong with that?’

It’s funny enough, but then a friend pointed out:

‘And then you give them a beauty product to make it up to them!’

Which put it into a whole new light.

Oh man, the most hilarious series of commercials I have seen lately are those for Geico insurance. Y’know, “We all do stupid things once in a while…” and there is some animated guy taking a bone from in front of a huge dog or something, and he promptly gets munched. They always show two in a row, that’s the best.
Noonch.

how did it start? well i don’t know i just feel the craving. i see the flesh and it smells fresh and it’s just there for the taking…

Another good Cartoon Network one: they have this campaign thing going on, and every now and then you’ll see an ad for a candidate. They give you a reason to vote for Bugs Bunny or Quick Draw McGraw or the Mayor of Townsville (from PowerPuff Girls) just like a regular canditate’s commercial.

The one that had me laughing uncontrollably was: “Not Vote Bizarro!”

I liked the car commercial that has the couple walking down the street, and as they pass this woman the guy leers at a car, and he gets slapped

But now that I think about it, it wasn’t really a good commercial 'cause I don’t remember the model or make of the car…

My favourite was last years’ Superbowl add for the hot sauce.

The mosquito tanks up from the guy who has been eating it, then explodes in mid-air.

I’d sure like to find that one again…think I’ll check out Opalcats’ links!

I could never eat a mouse raw…their little feet are probably real cold going down.

I have three current favs:

First, the Aflac commercial with the duck (goose?) saying “Aflac” to the guys on the bench.

Second, the Ameritrade ad with “Stewart”. He’s photocopying his face when his boss summons him for on-line trading help. Great ad!

Third, another Ameritrade. The “Phils gettin’ WACKY out there!” ad- Phil goes to get his manicure and pedicure and is griping about his portfolio… “Bobby” the effeminate hair dresser is key in this ad.

Love those funny commercials!

Hands down, the Heintz ketsup commericals. The new ones, with the guy with the wierd voice saying “Ever notice how there’s some ketsup that just sticks to the side of the jar? No one will ever be able to get it out. No one knows why it does this. Some people says this ketsup has issues.” then the words flash on the screen in huge letters: “Heintz ketsup: Some of it has issues.” There’s another one along those lines that I love.

I also love the new Oldsmobile commerical with the Gap Kids singing “In Cars,” and then an Olds almost hits them. Brilliant.

I don’t know where you can find the video, but the band that sings the song is called Pain. Their official page is http://www.thepainpage.com/

It’s not really funny, but my favorite is the Nike ad with Armstrong, the biker guy, talking about drug testing. He says, “they all want to know what I’m on…I’ll tell you what I’m on…my bike…8 hours a day…7 days a week…busting my ass…what are you on?” (not a direct quote) I just think it’s pretty cool.

I like that AFLAC one, too, especially when the duck kicks the bread back and it hits the guy right in the head.

The only ad that’s made me (intentionally) laugh out loud lately was one for, I think, Office Depot.

The one where the secretary is told by “God” to use the catalog, and it turns out to be some fellow changing the light above her desk? Good actors (hope they got paid a lot), clever writing.

The other Ameritrade ad where some girl, under the influence of some mind-altering substance, brings Stewart home to meet her Mom and Dad.

Stewart launches into his X-Games approach to the stock market, totally freaking out Mr. Wall Street Dad. At the end, just as the father is slipping into total cardiac arrest, the girl says something like, “I want to have his baby!”

The first time I saw this I passed a mouthful of Bud Light through my nose. God, it was hilarious.

The outpost.com commercials that ended: “Got a complaint?” The one with the marching band and the wolves cracked me up.

I must have a thing about people getting eaten, because my other favorite --I only saw it about 2 times-- started with that old joke about 2 men being chased by a bear and one stops to put sneakers on. The other says, “You’ll never outrun a bear.”
The sneaker guy says, “I only have to outrun you.”
But the kicker was: cut back to two bears sitting on a log and one says to the other. “Taste like chicken.”
I don’t know what the commercial was for.

Eve,

I second your pick on the Office Depot ad. They must have revived it lately, because I used to see it around this time last year.

There used to be about three commercials that Budget car rental ran until recently. They involved a bunch of ad execs sitting around a table trying to come up with a campaign to lure people into renting cars from Budget. One involved letting drivers be a park ranger for a day (vomiting bear cub), another had drivers using jet packs to get to their rental cars (driver snared by high-voltage lines), and yet another had aromatherapy candles placed in the car to relax the driver (car careens across oncoming traffic lanes while passengers sleep unaware in the vehicle). Each campaign gets voted down at the end of each commercial. God, I loved those!
