Pluribus (New Vince Gilligan show on AppleTV)

I can’t be comprehensive as I don’t know every vegetable/fruit in the world and didn’t mean to confuse the two. I had “vegetarians” on my mind.

Recently fallen apples ought to be okay. Yet aren’t all the “good” apples grown by grafting? I don’t make the rules, yet I guess that’s allowed if a tree branch can be cut.

I suppose at night you can get honey without harming a bee.

Bird droppings are rather an exotic thing on any menu, yet at least that puts peppers and berries into play.

Don’t forget that the clock rewound from day 12 on Carol to day 9 on Manusos. Doubt three days makes much difference in this trip though.

I missed that time change. He left shortly after Carol’s tape. That, of course, would let him know Carol has interacted with the Plurbs and used their drone-delivery service. Yet there’s little she could have done alone, beyond finding the HDP as the Plurbs split, perhaps to strategize how to continue to be nice yet not vulnerable. And procreate.

If they field-medic Manu and drop him off at least in Panama City, yet rather than drive through Central America and Mexico, which he’s probably not in the shape to do, esp. if he’s incoherent and muttering, “Carol Sturka” they’ll fly him to Albuquerque, arriving perhaps a few days after Zosia’s arrival and putting the times back in sync. Carol’s paintjob is a perfect helipad.

There are a number of fruits that do drop when they’re ripe - including apples. I don’t see how to scale that up to the amount they’ll need. So if they need more HDP, perhaps each day they’ll have “The Lottery” (Shirley Jackson style) as “The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few.”

If the Others’ goal is to keep Carol and Manuosos happy, is facilitating a meeting between the two most misanthropic people left in the world the best idea? Let’s face it, these two people are going to HATE each other.

That’s true, but they can’t stop them from doing something that will make them unhappy.

The outcome of the original meeting between the six in Bilbao was pretty predictable as well, but they moved heaven, earth, and a VC-25A to make it happen. And Carol herself is packed to the gills with self-defeating behaviors, but the Others enable her as best as they can, even when they just need a little space.

I get the idea that Manuosos is going to feel about Carol the same way that she feels about Diabaté.

Both Manousos and Carol are in agreement that the Joining is a huge issue, unlike the other unaffected. So I think they will find a way to work together.

But they don’t need to help them do that unless they ask, and Manuosos ain’t asking.

I wonder how he and Carol will communicate.

It’s already been established that Carol speaks Spanish.

And Manousos spent the entire episode learning English. Given that he already had the tapes and didn’t sound like a complete beginner he can probably already communicate with her.

Speak it well? I had the impression she knew a really good “Your mother” retort.

I reckon Zosia is moving in and she speaks everything.

Three’s Company. Lots of laughs.

Of course, if Zosia is there to translate, then so are all the Others, and whatever plotting Carol and Manuosos do is effectively public.

Unless they can isolate Zosia… perhaps via RF jamming on a known frequency?

If Manuosos doesn’t like Carol at first, they’ll get over it. He can move into one of the other facade houses on the cul-de-sac. He won’t ever like Zosia. Yet his radio knowledge and Zosia being around should prove useful.

He might pitch a tent or shack up in the nearest church, but I don’t see Manuosos moving into a stranger’s home.

Someone suggested upthread that the Joined are communicating or linked via that shortwave frequency that Manousos found. But I don’t see how that works; normally people can’t hear shortwave transmissions. And I don’t think Manousos would allow Zosia to translate given that he wanted to avoid them entirely.

She was introducing herself using basic to intermediate Spanish. She started saying things like “My name is Carol Sturka, I’m from Albuquerque” before he hung up on her several times. Her Spanish is far more advanced than his English, though she doesn’t speak Spanish well enough that they could really build a huge rapport or plan rescuing the world very easily.

I think that if that turns out to be significance of the frequency, we’ll just have to accept that 174 (wasn’t that the number?) base pairs of RNA can turn people into shortwave receivers, along with all the other changes that makes them Others.

Or, in other words, a wizard did it.

If Carol can conjugate verbs and make somewhat complex sentences, and get over idioms, then she should have no problem - once they get over the initial WTF’s - with

¿Dónde hay una tienda que venda equipo especializado para radioaficionados, lo que se conoce como HAM?

“Where is a store/shop that sells specialized radio equipment you might know as HAM?” (or close enough for horseshoes and the other thing - she’ll figure it out well enough. If she actually knows such a shop is the thing. He’ll need soldering irons, power supplies, antennas, a HAM unit and lots of equipment that has to be masked as something harmless.

He can learn more than Español 101 to be able to get across some things, too.

That “Come Back” sign was really just for Zosia. Manuos won’t like it once he knows what it means, “Vuelve!” yet Carol should let him know, if he’s inclined, not to get angry.

ETA: Yes, used DeepSeek to get the point across.

Everyone assumes Manousos and Carol are going to be in conflict due to her embracing the hive, but the last thing we see him do is ask them for help.

Rats. I meant “English 101” and somehow super/sub script was wasn’t working.

" radioaficionados is a good word. Yet I couldn’t figure out with my rusty High School Spanish how to request what they need. I hope threre’s some old 50 year old shop with the stuff in downtown Albuquerque.

They need whatever replaced “Radio Shack”. It looked like he had at least a $5,000 setup so some handiwork will be required. It’ll be funny if he tries to leave some money to pay for the “borrow”
