Should you object, you are not invited.
This is a bump.
Should you object, you are not invited.
Just to maintain my invitation, bump!
Thanks, Scotticher, for the e-mail. I just got back from Florida on Monday. The little Toaster was sick throughout the entire vacation, but if she hadn’t been, I was planning to crash the Largo Ren-Faire Dope Fest. It woulda been cool, but it didn’t work. Oh well.
A PNW fest sounds cool, but I don’t know if I’d be able to make it. I will consult my schedule and my spouse (who believes that the SDMB is the corruptor of the world, even worse than soap operas or MTV, and will of course refuse to attend) to see what’s up.
Sounds like it could be a real hoot!
Hey, Chrome Toaster, make your better half come along. When said spouse sees what a wholesome bunch we are, SO will be registered in NO time!
[sub]Well, either that, or SO will register so as to monitor your involvement to prevent your imminent corruption[/sub]
Scotti
PS: Honey, isn’t it clever how I avoided assigning a gender to your spouse? Just for my own sanity during future exchanges, are you a lady or a man?
does the bump
to the tune of the Imperial March
Bump, Bump, Bump, Bump Bump Bump, Bump Bump Bump
I just LOVE you guys!
And I am looking forward to meeting you, too!
Scotti
Okay, last bump before we let this sink for now. I will revive it a couple of weeks prior to April 21st, so no one forgets!
Scotti
I am sort of new to posting around here, so I’m wondering if someone could fill me in as to what sorts of hijinks go on during a DopeFest? Is it just basically a get-together at a restaurant where people chat and eat and drink and have fun, or is there more to it than that?
'lo all…
Put me down for a very heavy “I’ll try”… Shouldn’t be to much trouble, but I gotta keep my options open.
Hopefully I’ll be able to see all you wonderful people again! Maybe I’ll even be tempted to post all the pictures I took at the first one. There’s a great one of Scotti and RJK, as well as one of myself and Katrina.
Actually, if someone has some spare time I could just send them off to be put online. I’ve been so insanely busy for the last few months that I haven’t been able to. =P
I take it specific directions will be forthcoming?
-nigel
Yes, but see next comment.
We’re sworn to secrecy on the details, but remember to bring a large quantity of aluminum foil, a bottle of Wesson oil, and either an encyclopedia or a washtub. Oh, and we’ll also need to know your blood type and next of kin.
I’m in for directions, Niggle.
Someone else offered to provide bus info.
We’ll post it closer to dopefest time.
See ya there!
Jeyen
Niggle!
Honey, I am so glad that you are (maybe) coming! I wanted to email you about this, but I lost my address book a few months ago, and so I couldn’t let you know about this “coming attraction”!
If you want to carpool again, I would be happy to drive from Bellingham. And this would solve rjk’s bus problems, too…plus, I think he would be relieved to have you along. I think that maybe he got a little alarmed by my propensity for entering into deep discussions with total strangers at the Vancouver DopeFest. It is possible that he thinks I need more than one keeper!
[sub]And he may be right, too![/sub]
And MsWhatsit? In my (limited) experience:
A DopeFest is pretty much formed by the people who attend. Here in the PNW, our DopeFest’s seem to be…well, somewhat in the PNW fashion. We get together for dinner, laughs, intelligent and witty verbiage, discussion and forming of friendships. Personally, I can’t promise any of the witty or intelligence stuff…forming of friendships, though…I am good at that. And I am a good audience for the wits and the brains.
No orgies, despite my darling Pluto’s innuendo’s concerning wesson oil. No orgies.
Unless…
Maybe they HAD one, and didn’t invite me? Oh dear. They were probably afraid I would blush.
Scotti
(Looking forward to meeting all of you)
Okay…I have to tell you all, I have NEVER bumped a thread this old.
HOWEVER…
THIS is a bump worth doing.
So, okay!
Who’s coming? We need to get a head count so we can make reservations. (Just remember…we can find you if you choose to flake out! )
Seriously, (Like I am EVER) lets get some firm plans down here.
Who is coming? who is going? Who wants to be included in our reservations?
Unfortunately, I’ve recently been informed (in no uncertain terms) that I am expected to be at the rally in support of public employees (I work for a union that represents state employees) on April 21, and I’m not sure when I may be able to duck out. I mean, I believe in the cause*, and marching and chanting is fun, but I’d rather be meeting all of you!
So, what time does this shin-ding start, and how late will people still be around? I seem to remember planning for mid-afternoon, but I’m too lazy to go back in the thread to make sure. I do want to come, and I’ve been psyching myself up to avoid the case of social ineptitude that kept me away from the Portland DopeFest. I just can’t commit. Hmm, where have I heard those words before?
(Puts on Union Educator hat)
*Please note, the majority of WA state employees are underpaid, and often overworked (Department of Transportation notwithstanding), their benefits aren’t that good, health insurance premiums keep going up, they do get fired without justification, and most of them really do want to do a good job. So remember that when half the state is in flames and the Dept. of Natural Resources is putting lives on the line to fight it, when you go to some of the finest, cleanest, safest parks in the country, and when you get helped through the registration process at your local community college. (Union hat now officially off).
I think we decided on 4PM at Bucca de Beppo or something like that. I have a map, but someone is going to have to help me out with posting the link. I have never figured out how to do that without messing up.
Help? Anyone?
Scotti, you can probably skip the map.
I’m going to post detailed directions, including a link to a map, in the near future.
Probably by Wednesday. (I’m away from home and the good resources until Tuesday.)
Jeyen
Thanks jeyen!
Now we just need to find out who is planning on coming, and we are on our way!
Scotti
4 p.m., April 21 – count me in. I’ll bring a digital cam.
If there are problems with Buca de Beppo’s, I’d suggest the bar at Jillian’s (the yuppie billiards hall on Westlake). Very spacious; perfect for a rowdy crowd.
I’m attacking from the north – Mukilteo.
