Yeah. The Mayor’s outraged. Like it will matter? Hue and cry, weeping parents, outraged community leaders, a 23-member Special Commission On Cops Who Dig Firing Off Their Guns At Cars will be appointed at a cost of 9.2 million dollars…and the cop who fired his gun who is currently cooling his heels till the protests are squelched will make Sargeant in a year.
God, I am so glad I do not live in L.A… not that I’m saying this is a part of a dedicated pattern. Or anything.
On the other hand, you have a car thief driving a lethal weapon at a cop. Not exactly the thing guaranteed to extend your lifespan. I’m not saying the cops are blameless, but the kid certainly contributed to his early departure from this life.
Hey. I’m a fucking liberal and, based on the limited information in the article, I’d say the 13-year-old contributed significantly to his demise. As silenus pointed out, the kid was driving a lethal weapon at police. Whether deadly force was called for is indeterminate at this point. However, I’d be surprised if this was the kid’s first brush with the law.
So, let’s save judgment for more information. And please watch your generalizations.
From that short article it’s impossible to say what the police should have done.
It doesn’t even make it clear as to whether or not the cops were in or out of the car, getting in or out of the car et cetera.
It doesn’t say how fast the teen was backing into the police cruiser, there are too many unknowns.
Depending on the answer to all of these questions you could have situations where the cops genuinely were in enough danger to justify opening fire, and situations where they did not need to use lethal force.
Can’t really tell from the article what the police did wrong here. If the driver of a car is trying to hit someone, that car doesn’t become any less of a deadly weapon just because the driver is a teen.
On the other hand, I also don’t see where he hit anyone else. Where did you find that story, jester?
And if the cops had let the car get away, and it plowed into a crowd at a street corner, the mayor and community would be outraged at the cops then, too. Outrage is pretty easy.
If the kid didn’t steal a car, he’d still be alive. If the kid had just pulled over and surrendered when he saw the cops trailing him, he’d still be alive. Do you think the cops knew the kid was 13 when they were in pursuit? Did it matter to the cops that he was 13 when a 2 thousand car in coming at them?
Until I see some more in-depth news, I gotta blame the kid.
You know, come to think of it, I am a liberal who fucks, so take my original statement any way you see fit.
As to the OP, how about some outrage toward the kid’s parents? Where were they while he was joyriding in a stolen car? There’s some indication that the kid was starting to hang with the wrong crowd. In South Central, that’s not a great way to establish a long and productive life. The kid was bright it seems. So, who were his role models? Gang bangers?
I would bet if it was a 13 year old white kid there would be no uproar at all. I really hate to say it but it’s another excuse for African Americans to blame white folks for all their ills.
