Ack! 83 responses! My spreadsheet has burst into flames!

Thanks again, everyone; I’ll tabulate the data tonight and let you all in on the theory…

  1. a) Dark chocolate. I like it almost bitter.

  2. c) Red wine. I don’t drink much wine at all, but when I DO drink it, I want red wine.

  3. d) Lamb. I mostly eat beef and pork, because lamb is so expensive, though. Second place is a tie between beef and pork. I don’t like seafood at all.

  4. a) Light roast. I’ll drink a medium roast, but I prefer a smoother taste. I don’t like dark roasts at all, and will avoid Starbuck’s and the like.

Okay, I messed up my spreadsheet, so you all have another fifteen or so minutes to chime in. Any more light roast drinkers out there?

Someone may wish to begin a drum roll…

Okay, here are the stats. I’ve included Lynn and everyone who responded before her, save for those who couldn’t state a preference of the type of coffee they drank - that was the most important part, but I’ll see what I have for parting gifts for those unfortunate souls.

Theory, Conclusions, and Awards Ceremony:

gum gets the guessed the theory correctly - the coffeeshop owner claimed that people who drink dark roast are more likely to enjoy red wine, red meats, and dark chocolate. His explanation was that becuse the bitter tastebuds are concentrated in one area on the tongue, a preference for a dark roast would lead to a similar preference for the other three items - which to me could’ve been bunk or could’ve been spot on. I’m no scientist. Anyways, for his/her psychic efforts gum’s pet dog or cat wins a free tarot card reading from Miss Cleo.

Nor am I a statistician, but I believe that since the rates are pretty close across the board, there’s not much truth to his theory. I probably should have solicited responses from non-coffee drinkers as a control group, but alas I did not.

dogbutler and Low Key were the only respondents to match all four criteria; as such, they win the “Manly Hunk of Manburger” award and fifteen free testosterone injections to keep that streak going.

As the only brave individual to admit they like cheap blush wine, jellyblue wins a stylish 2004 Gucci paper bag to wear over his/her head in shame. :stuck_out_tongue:

Medium roast drinkers are most likely to slaughter poor, helpless baby sheep and feast upon their delicious, mouthwatery innards.

And everyone really is invited over for supper next weekend - except for those who simply answered “c,c,a,b” without referring to the question and made my life a LIVING HELL for the past forty-five minutes.

Thanks again, everyone. Oh, for myself: dark roast, red wine, dark chocolate, and poultry.

What’s your address, again? I seem to have misplaced it.

Poultry?! Sorry, no testosterone injections for you!

I thought that was going to be the secret. Not that it matters now, but I’m also a dark chocolate, dark roast, red wine, and (gasp!) poultry-eating person. Just not manly enough, I suppose.

::clutching bag and wiping tear from eye::

Thank you - I’ll treasure it always!!! I’d just like to take a brief moment to thank all the little people who made this possible…

Anybody want to join me for a toast with this here box of wine I have?

Nobody, eh?

::clicks her bottle of two-buck chuck against jellyblue’s box o’ wine::

L’chaim!

I didn’t see this in time to respond, but…

Bitter taste buds, eh? I would take it more for simply a preference for strong flavors. I’m personally very sensitive to bitter foods - broccoli (and other dark green vegetables), walnuts, etc. I simply can’t eat. They make me gag, and try as I might (which I don’t any more) I can’t keep them down.

And yet, I like a dark roast coffee. I like my coffee robust. And if it’s brewed properly, it won’t taste bitter. I have tasted bitter coffee that I can’t drink. I don’t like dark chocolate because… it tastes bitter to me. But I love milk chocolate. When I was a drunk, I was mostly a beer drinker, but when I drank wine it was red wine. Mmmm… MD 20/20…

And beef. Loves me some beef. Nothing bitter about that…

[sniffs the spigot…]

Ah, April 3rd through 10th, an excellent week!

Ah, two buck chuck, No Clue Boy (whatcha got there, MD20/20?) & Greenbean - this is shaping up to be some party!! (Hand me that plastic cup over there…)

Anybody bring any chocolate?

Meese allergic to chocolates, uh huh!

No eatums them. But meessa like other sweets.
