Ditto and ditto.
[bolding mine]
I had no idea that this was a thing until I praised the beauty of Jennifer Garner and Francoise Hardy, the 1960’s French folk chanteuse in a thread.
Here is a link to some photos of Hardy: OLIVIA PALERMO
The posts said: Man jaw! Man jaw! Man jaw!!
Man jaw?! That’s a thing used to slag a women’s beauty? Really?!
Whatever. These women are beautiful. KK is delightful, and her personality shines through in her acting, which adds to her appeal, man-jaw and all. Could she use a sandwich? To me, yeah, but her body is her own, and I enjoy her regardless.
Sheesh. Tough crowd.
I don’t think I’d call her beautiful. Don’t get me wrong, if by some really convoluted circumstance I had the opportunity to throw her a bone, I certainly would, but I just think beautiful has connotations I would not attribute to her. Attractive, certainly. Beautiful? I just don’t believe it fits.
Funny how no one noticed.
The Lantern Jaw question was addressed on the SDMBin 2002.
As that thread points out, Jay Leno is a prime example.
No, this thread was about women’s beauty. Some folks would mention Amanda Seyfried and folks would say “Alien Face!” I mentioned Jennifer Garner as someone I found beautiful, and I got “Man Jaw!!”
Man, I am SO glad I am not a woman.
And no, Keira does not have a Lantern Jaw. It’s just a pretty, delicate, somewhat pointed jawline on a beautiful woman.
I think she’s lovely, but unflattering hairstyles seem especially bad for her. In particular, long, straight (or slightly waved) hair does not complement her face, in my opinion. However, that–along with what she eats, or doesn’t eat–is her business, not mine.
^ This is Incredibly funny…! Did this really happen?

It almost makes me wonder if David Poland’s face went from this to this. ![]()
I had the same reaction. Not that there’s anything wrong with Keira Knightley that a few trips through the endless pasta bar wouldn’t take care of, but she strikes me as having good parts that somehow don’t add up to a whole.
Especially beautiful.
She fairly attractive, but not beautiful. At least to me.
Pleasant to look at, but, no great shakes.
She looks lovely in photos but less so in moving pictures. I realize she can’t help her jaw / bone structure but she always looks petulant which then makes her seem like a one note actress. The first time I saw her was in* Pirates of the Caribbean*and after about a half hour I was thinking “yeah we get it, Elizabeth Swann is a tough chick. You can unclench now” but now I realize that’s just how her face is and it’s a bit off putting to me. On the other hand, the few times I’ve seen her interviewed she seemed funny and a cool chick and I didn’t noticed her weird facial expressions at all.
Saw her once on The Graham Norton Show and she talked about her facial expression in several movies as “the Pout”. As someone else pointed out, she rarely closes her mouth. Several other actresses do the same(Nicole Kidman) almost a baby duck face. Supposed to be sexy but after a while becomes just annoying.
Funny, that’s the exact opposite reaction to mine. When I see her on magazine covers and such, she’s usually somewhat off-putting, but when I see her on screen, I very much like what I see.
She’s hot and in Pirates of the Carribean 3 she was showing off her great legs.
It goes to show you how tastes vary. I think she is ass ugly. All I see are skewed gnarled teeth sticking out of that yap. There was a time when I thought she was OK, but I think she gets worse the skinnier she gets.
In every thread of this type, we learn that lesson again.
At this point I’m just glad that someone got my joke. ![]()
Definitely.
