Poll...The Next President is...

John McCain
Despite the pay for for those who get out the vote
America’s next president is John McCain
because America is not yet ready for …

I was the first person here at the SDMB to predict as much, and I’m still sticking to it (though it’s obviously a much less risky option now than it was then):

OBAMA.

Look, if you’re going to make a quasi-rascist claim, have the balls to make it. Don’t just ‘…’ out “a black president.”

(I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt, and not ascribe to you the use of the N word, although that was the undertone I took from your post).

EDIT: To answer the OP. I’ll be voting for Obama, but I refuse to believe the Democrats can’t snatch defeat from the jaws of victory until I see it.

What Wargamer said…except the scary jaws part :frowning:

Obama.

In fairness to Will, it’s possible for him to believe that Obama will not be able to overcome racist resistance without him (Will Repair) being a racist himself. To draw an analogy, I’m an atheist, but I think it would be very difficult for an openly atheistic or agnostic candidate to get elected President.

Having said that, my own opinion is that the election is Obama’s to lose right now. I think it might even be fairly decisive. I’m not predicting a blow out, but if I had to bet money on it, I’d bet on O. I think it’s his unless something politically catastrophic is revealed, or he does something to really screw himself up. Obama’s like Tiger with a 1 stroke lead on sunday right now. McCain has to fire at the flags, but Obama just has to make his pars and not do anything stupid.

ETA I think making par is exactly what he’s done on his overseas trip thus far. He didn’t make any Eagles, but he avoided bogies. That’s all he had to do.

Are we supposed to say who we think will win, or who we hope will win?

Hope will win: Obama
Think will win: Obama (but in a tighter race than polls would suggest).
Currently polls are showing Obama with a lead in many demographics, and a definite lack of enthusiasm for McCain, even by Republicans. Of course, polls change often. Still, it will be interesting to see how the polls are after the first debate when you see the two of them together, and listen to what their plans are.

What do you mean by this? That Obama has more campaign workers than McCain?

I think McCain is going to go into a Ballmeresque meltdown in a debate with Obama, and that will be that.

The Next President is…

… a one term president regardless of who wins.

I think Obama will win (and hey, I’m even probably going to vote for him!) but don’t tell my conservative parents that. They’ll flip.

I think Obama can win this. I think day by day he is convincing those that hesitate for various reasons to vote for him, that he would make a better President than John McCain.

I do not say this as a John McCain basher as I actually like and respect John McCain. I think Obama in the better speaker, has the plans that at least sound better, is the candidate promising to get us out of Iraq sooner> I also keep hearing, more and more, that McCain looks too old and too tired to be President. I don’t know if that last is a viral ad thing running around the nation or just something localized to the people I talk to.

I think Obama can mostly overcome the resistance to his skin color. I don’t think Jesse Jackson bashing him did anything but help him with those that fear a black President.

Jim

America is not ready for a black president, so we’re going to eeeease into it with a half black one. One after that, though, totally black.

Well said. The current State of the Union is so fucked up that whoever wins (Obama, IMO) will likely have to take drastic and unpopular action (i.e., raise taxes substantially) in order to fix things. Problem is, the U.S. is so fucked that even if he does this immediately upon taking office (unlikely) and things start to turn around by the time the '12 campaign rolls around, my guess is that short-sighted Americans will whine and bleat, “but he raised taxes”. And that will be that.

Small hijack: I was watching Hollywood Canteen last night on TCM. Eddie Cantor sang a duet with Nora Martin – “My Baby’s Having A Baby”. One of Nora’s lines was something like “Our baby’s going to be President” and Cantor’s line was “But what if it’s a girl?”

Gave me a chuckle, that did.

Obama.

If the Deomcratic Party can not win this election, they really have blown it. It shouldn’t even be close.

I smell rout.

Sorry, that was me. Pad Thai for lunch.

IMHO This election is Obama’s to lose. But one gaffe too many and lose it he will.
