I read Perfect Murder, Perfect Town by Lawrence Schiller and was frustrated that while the author gave extremely detailed case information and a chronological narrative of the case, he did not point the finger at anyone.
IMO, Patsy. The elaborate ransom note was in her writing style, as per the Vassar writing expert. (Who uses that many exclamation points!) And her behavior and comments after the crime were odd. If she did it, John had to have helped.
IMO, the Boulder police did not secure the house as a crime scene quickly enough. Because of the “ransom note” the cops initally treated the case as a kidnapping. Family members roamed the house at will for hours while the police were waiting with them for a phone call regarding ransom information until JonBenet’s father discovered her body in the basement and carried it up to the ground floor where the police were. The police did not control the situation and separate the parents. Then the parents quickly lawyered up, as the rich will do, which kept the police from interrogating them for many months.
What the author did conclude was if the parents did it they will never be indicted unless they were to confess. I was curious about the motive, but other than the pageant pathology, no idea.
The older half-brother had a solid alibi and was ruled out a suspect. As for Jon Benet’s young brother I tend to think while possible, it’s unlikely.
Maybe it was Sue Ellen.
