Arguably, given 26 USC 6103, Congress had a better statutory claim to see the tax returns, but this is fine with me. I just hope the lower courts don’t dick around with the case now and then say, in a month or two, “Oh, it’s too close to the election for us to issue some bombshell ruling now .”

I absolutely guarantee you that that is what will happen. And any ruling they make will be appealed again.

Thomas Freedman in yesterday’s NY Times said that Biden should refuse a debate with Trump unless Trump releases his tax returns (but how will we know they aren’t fake?) and insists that 10 minutes be allotted at the end of the debate for fact checkers to refute everything that Trump has said.

Trump is STILL trying to claim he’s eager to release his tax returns, just as soon as that pesky audit (five years running now, at minimum) is over.

I’m still surprised no one’s leaked any of Donald’s financials yet. I’d be happy with one document detailing his Russian debts.
