There has been a school shooting in your town that has claimed the lives of 26 victims and made nationwide news for weeks.

In the wake of the shooting, many (although not all) of the families of the dead push for the school to be demolished and completely rebuilt, saying that the existence of the school is a continuous reminder of mental trauma and that tearing down and building anew would lead to a fresh beginning. Meanwhile, others oppose this measure, arguing that other schools that experienced similar shootings didn’t tear down and rebuild, and that the school still remains fully functional (from a physical standpoint) and that this would be a waste of taxpayer money (cost is $57 million). Polling shows that the local electorate is split 50-50% on the issue. The debate goes on for months, and no compromise appears possible by either side.

The decision is ultimately yours. What would you do?

  • Leave the school intact, but with some renovations and a memorial
  • Tear down and build a new school

Semi-based off of real life:

A rich friend of yours has a wasp problem. There are 5 big nests outside his house, all at a height of about four feet. Each nest is basketball-sized and has a hundred wasps inside. The species is unknown. He will pay you to deal with them, although you have no experience handling wasps. The use of fire or chemicals is not allowed. You have to bring your own gear and protective clothing, whatever it is. What’s the minimum pay you’d require to do it?

If you need to get some string, get this string. It’s the greatest string in the world. It’s almost rope. But it’s not, it’s string. And you can cut it up into different lengths and tie stuff up with it and stuff. I don’t know what you’re gonna do with it. Just get it.’”
