Is it a like a charge-vending machine, where you still have to pay for the electricity and all the jerk is stealing is a parking space? Or is it free electricity which the jerk is stealing (as well as the parking space?)

  • It’s a vending machine; the jerk is only stealing a parking space.
  • The jerk is stealing free electricity.
  • If it was free WiFi and the jerk was stealing that without being a customer of the store, my answer would change.
  • I have additional questions.

Mark all that apply:

  • Try and … blah blah blah
  • Try to … blah blah blah
  • “Try and” is redundant; if you must do both then there is no try, only do.
  • “Try and” is colloquial; stop being so pedantic
  • Knock it off you two; we have better things to poll here.

I don’t like it when forewords or prefaces of books use Roman numerals, and they’re so long that the last such page number is something like lviii. How long, at most, should any section of a book be, using Roman numerals as the page numbers?

  • v
  • x
  • xv
  • xx
  • xxv
  • xxx
  • I don’t want to see any Roman numerals as page numbers, dammit
  • Meh, I don’t care how many pages use Roman numerals

A cafe offers free WiFi for its customers. You have to buy something to get the password. However, the cafe never bothers to change the password. If someone bought something there last week and obtained the password, and then returns today just to stand outside the door and use the WiFi, is this stealing?

  • Yes, the is absolutely stealing. The have to buy something again today if they want to use the WiFi again.
  • Maybe. It’s dishonest, but I don’t know if it rises to the level of a crime.
  • No. It’s the cafe’s own damn fault for having such lax WiFi security.
  • No. The person bought something something there once. They should get to use the WiFi all they want, even for multiple days.
  • I have no opinion on the subject.

Storing cups/glasses/mugs: rim-side up or rim-side down?
  • Rim-side up.
  • Rim-side down.
  • One of those things goes one way, others go the other way.
  • I don’t care / Either way is acceptable / Arbitrarily depends on which way my wrist is oriented when I’m putting them away or picking them up.
  • Depends on the cup/glass/mug.
  • Neither. I store cups/glasses/mugs another way.
