Polls only: No discussion

Pete Buttigieg is from Indiana.

He moved to Traverse City, Michigan (his husband’s home town) in 2022.

Wrong thread.

You guys are posting in the wrong thread. This is the “no discussion” thread.

Anyhow, back to the thread:

You are just about to retire. You’ve got all your retirement plans ready to go, even the travel/vacation tickets bought, and in fact have already turned in your 2-week notice, when your boss (who had just presented you with a gold watch last week) suddenly summons you to his office,…

“Cough cough, _________, some good unexpected news; our company has suddenly had demand explode just overnight, and we need your services even more at this time. We anticipate that growth and demand will climb for a long while to come. I know you were planning to retire right now, but we would be willing to pay you 4x your current salary per year, for each additional year that you are willing to stay on.”

  • Agree to work for company for 1 more year
  • Agree to work for company for 2 more years
  • Agree to work for company for 3 or even more years
  • Refuse the offer and retire as originally planned

It’s laundry day in my house, so let’s do a really mundane poll.

What kind of laundry detergent do you use? If you don’t necessarily purchase the same kind every time, just go with what’s in your laundry room right now.

  • Liquid
  • Powder
  • Pods
  • Sheets
  • Nothing, just water
  • Someone else does my laundry and I don’t know what they use
  • Something else

You live in a regime similar to North Korea, Project 2025, the Taliban or Nazi Germany.

One day, your adult son or daughter finds themselves in a Rosa Parks/Gandhi/Sophie Scholl type of situation. In the spur and heat of the moment, he/she considers making a highly visible, public gesture of defiance against the regime.

As the parent, you are given magical foresight into exactly what will unfold if they do so. 1) Your son/daughter will promptly be executed by the regime, probably with exceptionally painful methods. But also, 2), their defiant public gesture, and death, will lead to a revolution that will eventually topple the regime and bring democracy and human rights for the nation, and history will laud them as a hero.

What would you prefer that your son/daughter do?

  • I would prefer that they make the bold gesture of defiance
  • I would prefer that they not make the bold gesture of defiance

  • Goofy’s a dog. He’s definitely a dog.
  • He can’t be a dog. He drives a car and wears a hat.
  • That is weird. What the hell is Goofy?!

How do/did you get along with your in-laws?
  • Famously. Like we were family already.
  • It’s good. We get along fine.
  • Okay, I guess. I’m never really uncomfortable, but I wouldn’t really hang out with these people otherwise.
  • There’s some I like, even a lot, others not so much.
  • We can be polite, but it’s not super comfortable to be alone together.
  • It’s contentious, but mostly civil. We just don’t really get along.
  • There is open, mutual hostility.
  • I have more than one set of in-laws that I had very different relationships with.
  • Something else?
  • I don’t have in-laws, never did.
