Hypothetical:

You are the DNC chairman in summer 2024. Biden is 81 years old, has suffered a mild stroke, is showing strong signs of dementia, and cannot name countries on a map anymore, nevertheless, he got the most votes in the primaries and is also going up against Donald Trump again. Do you make him the 2024 (D) nominee?

  • yes, nominate Biden
  • no, go with someone else

0 voters

In the previous thread about Biden, did you just have to not fight the hypothetical and assume the DNC Chair had such power?

  • yes
  • No
  • What do you mean “assume,” of course he or she would have that power.

I hate to break it to you, but you’re going to have to time travel, and you’re going to assume your old life for a long while - 10 full years.

Everything you’ve heard about not stepping on a butterfly, forget that. It’s bull, even if you tried not to make changes you inevitably would. It’s a given you’ll make changes, and you’ll probably have less control on how they ripple out into other lives connected to yours than you anticipate, even if you try to keep them small. So you know, just try not to screw anything up too badly and hope for the best.

Or try to right every wrong and/or re-invent yourself. That’d make the tapes fun for the experimenters to review when you get back at least.

Once you’ve relived that decade you’ll return to September 18, 2022 and start living your new post-past rewritten reality…for better or worse. No one else, except the people who set up this experiment, will know things have changed, but you will.

Which decade would you pick for having to re-live the whole 10 years of from the first day of the decade? Do not chose a decade you weren’t alive for all 10 years of - in my case that rules out the 70s, and of course every decade before, given the first full decade I lived through was the 80s.

Pick your decade and form a line for the time machine.

I’m going to relive:

  • the 1930s
  • the 1940s
  • the 1950s
  • the 1960s
  • the 1970s
  • the1980s
  • the1990s
  • the 2000s
  • the 2010s

Follow up question, during the decade you picked, the years you’ve relived are during your (only pick a split if it’s 5-5 or 6-4 years):

  • split equally between mid-childhood and through mid-teens
  • my teens
  • my teens and 20s
  • my 20s
  • my 20s and 30s
  • my 30s
  • my 30s and 40s
  • my 40s
  • my 40s and 50s
  • my 50s
  • my 50s and 60s
  • my 60s
  • my 60s and 70s
  • my 70s
  • my 70s and 70s
  • my 80s

When you are offered a chance to return to some certain past time in your life, such as your teens or 20s, what’s the immediate or highest priority on your mind?

  • Something about relationships - spouse, family, friends, bullies, etc.
  • Something about financial gain - investing in a particular stock, etc.
  • Something about reversing a huge mistake - a crime committed, an accident, etc.
  • Something about your body - avoiding an injury, or living more healthily
  • Something about your career - pursuing a different field, job decisions, etc.
