When you’ve raised a child for ~17 years, and they’re ready to graduate high school, enter the world and make their own decisions, why deem it necessary to stick your fingers in their pie at this late date? Your kids either embrace your values or they don’t.
Before anybody howls, I am a father. My daughter is 8 years old. Instruction is part of every minute spent with her, and part of that instruction is to trust the person within. If she turns her back on everything I’ve said, I’ll still respect her choice, because I taught her to make up her own mind, and accept responsibility for her actions.
These parents and self-righteous school officials feel it is important to pass judgement on others. A “more appropriate date”? Please. If Max wanted to bring an unemployed mother of 4 who is addicted to crack, would that be acceptable?
If Max wanted to bring a guy, would they get their panties in a wad over that?
If Tyler was the president of an internet spam company, sending out a tetrazillion emails every day promising to make your member bigger, or sell drugs cheaper, would that make her an appropriate date?
Tyler doesn’t hide what she does. She presumably pays taxes on her earnings, and should not have her field of employ derided by folks such as these. These folks seriously need to get the stick out of their collective asses.
I am curious however, what the rules are that the principal was referring to? For example, in my husband’s high school, you had to have a date that was 20 and under to attend. The reason for this was that they could not legally drink so there was no risk (supposedly) of a drunk person attending that they did not have the power to remove (even if they just smelled a little alcohol). It was a rule based in at least some level of reasonability.
I like porn stars as much as the next guy (hell, probably more! I’m married!), but I don’t see how bringing one to the high school prom could be considered “appropriate”. Hell, how old is the kid? I bet he couldn’t legally view the movies she “stars” in!
Why allow her in and ruin it, via the massive chaos and disruption that it would inevitably cause, for every other student?
If the kid wants to get his jollies on a porn star, make a limo ride as part of the prize package. Better throw in a lawyer, too.
The whole issue seems pretty stupid to me. Just another publicity stunt.

Have you ever tried to find out the age of a porn star? All I can tell you is that she’s “legally verified to be 18+ years old”. I should add that you only need 16 to enter the Tyler Faith Based Health Clinic… :dubious:

Are you expecting her to strip down naked, call in a film crew, and start handing out relsease forms for 100% Blowjobs 25 right after music starts?
In a world where people delight in passing judgment on their fellows (hell, half our evening TV lineup is based on this concept, now), it surprises anyone that a school would lower the boom on a kid?
Ok, if it was her age, that’s cool, and good for them. Age limits for prom are good. Ain’t nothin’ more pathetic than seeing a 24 year old ex quarterback with some 18 year old girl at the prom.
If it’s because of her occupation? Puhleze. The only difference between what she does for a living and what many high school girls do on prom night is high school girls do it for free. Since when are (most) parents these days concerned about the quality of girls their boys are dating — or the kind of women their daughters are turning into? Have you seen what girls are WEARING TO SCHOOL these days? Ever watched a group of girls at the mall? I showed less cleavage on my wedding night!!
Why, in MY DAY … mutter mutter mutter
wanders off aimlessly to reminisce about the good old days of the mid 90’s
… our curfews were 11pm on weekends and most of us didn’t hit 3rd base until we were 15 or so and we were GRATEFUL, dammit!!!
Gosh, I feel so bad for the kid. He won’t be able to take a porn star to a dull, alcohol-free, adult-chaperoned dance. I hope they can find something else to do instead.
Well, there’s those who will say there’s a difference between your, er, unorthodox, prom date being the result of an actual win-a-date-with-a-porn-star game on the Stern show, and it coming about because of a friend-of-a-friend connection with a gal who happens to be Petra Verkaik.
If the situation is that the school in question for this OP has a specific age rule to keep it “teen friendly”, then that should stand. And come to think about it, they may even be extra riled about having their activity impinged upon by a Howard Stern promo stunt. If OTOH they have no rule in place to deal with this, they are stuck…
I have no idea. The information just might be in the three paragraph article cited in the first post or maybe even discussed in the ten or so posts above the one you wrote.
Fuck the prom. The kid should take the porn star to Atlantic City for the weekend.
It is actually quite easy. Many porn stars have “escorting” services they offer on the side. I’d guess the Howard Stern show paid ~$1000 to ~$1500 to Ms. Tyler Faith to accompany the winner of the contest on a “date”. Ironically enough, this is a good deal more than most porn stars make for filming a movie.
