Porn - why so many gyno shots?

I’ve noticed a trend in online porn … it seems like there’s a disproportionately large number of “I’m spreading myself wide open for you” type shots, where a woman stretches her … ahem, openings, to allow the porn consumer to catch a peek of her cervix or lower intestine. I can’t help but think “eeeeeewwwwww.”

My question to the masses … why are these shots so common? Is the view of a woman spread open supposed to appeal to a commonplace fetish that ranks up there with a preference towards large breasts or thin women? Why, why, why?

One must assume trial and error - in a context of cite revenue, no?

Maybe it’s not appealing to you (nor me), but it is obviously doing what the web-masters want it to do - attract cite traffic and increase revenue.

It’s all about the numbers.

So, I suppose the real question is,…is this type of porn becoming more main stream because of a growing fetish or because intices a curiosity of something that was previously concealed?

I seem to recall someone saying that if you didn’t see pink, it wasn’t porn. Look at the pictures in Playboy and you’ll be very unlikely to see the models show it all. Penthouse, I believe, did show, uh, extreme closeups. While Hustler, well, what DIDN’T they show?

elmwood: Cite? (no, seriously don’t!).

I don’t surf for porn much (no, really), but I know that there are plenty of sites out there to suit each individual taste. Surely there are masses of sites which do not feature so many “spread” shots?

It may have something to do with guys tendency to be visually stimulated by looking at women’s bodies. I know my fiance enjoys looking at mine

You think? That’s a pretty far fetched idea, but you may just be onto something!

Wait a minute. You are questioning why porn sites would show a woman’s privates in great detail? Maybe because that’s what porn is.

People who create porn are always in a quandary. They want to show what they themselves like, but at the same time they want to appeal to a wide audience.

It’s a balance that they’re constantly testing. Sometimes a hint that they should go in a particular direction is enough to push them into doing more and more and more of a particular thing. Other times, they are reluctant to do what is really popular simply because they themselves do not find it erotic at all.

And then after a short while, they have seen so much full-on in-your-face explicit detail, that they cannot tell what is erotic or not anymore and they’re going by guesses and instinct instead of true feelings of excitement.

So basically, it could be any reason, but usually it’s because the makers like that sort of stuff.

It could be just me, but is there really that much feedback to porn providers? Do people really write to webmasters with comments about how their selection is too light/heavy on the anatonomy lessons?

Yes they do. The question is: “Do webmasters follow up on feedback?”

That is something hard to measure.

If nothing else, they probably monitor the number of hits for each image, and when each new set of images is released. I imagine that if they notice that a lot of people are downloading a particular image, then they produce more images similar to that one.

I’ll bet that these shots are popular because it’s SOMETHING FORBIDDEN. (Insert dramatic, foreboding music here.) I expect that in even the wildest and/or most initimate of heterosexual encounters, the guy rarely gets that kind of close-up.

Kind of hard to ask for, I would think: “Uh, honey, would you . . . oh, never mind . . .”

I would have to disagree with this. What kind of porn is it that get’s closer than you could in real life? Maybe I don’t want to know…

I can get over guys wanting to see the frightfully close up views of the female anatomy - what I can’t understand is the growing trend of sites combining sex and feces - guys and gals pissing all over each other or eating/smearing poo from one another. I just fail to see the eroticism. “Damn Bill, did you see that corn infested log come outta her ass and into Fecal Felicia’s mouth? Whooo-eeee!” Or the Japanese phenomenon of raunchily explicit porn flicks featuring women gorging on food or whatever, only to vomit it back up, only to eat it again, performing a cycle of vomiting and eating that said vomit over and over again. In Korea, they jokingly call such videos “Yellow-soup.” I shudder to think of the people that get sexually aroused watching such stuff. Different strokes, I suppose.

One of the most sexually arousing situations for a typical man is to be with an obviously sexually aroused woman. So a woman displaying her vulva prominantly serves as a very strong sexual stimulus, and also implies she finds the partner stimulating and desirable.

Translate this to photos, and you’ve got the crotch shots, which can rapidly become waaaay too much of a good thing, as they focus more and more on the gynecology. But it has its roots in reproductive biology.

As for the scat and other nasty stuff appearing, thankfully the people who enjoy that are still a very small percentage of the population.

It’s my understanding that a lot of men really don’t know what a woman looks like “down there”. Maybe this is a safe (non-embarassing) way to find out.

The girl next door showed me her Saab yesterday, does that she’s a bit kinky?

:d&r:

I heartily support QtM on this one. Men (hetero) are most aroused by the presence of a sexually interested and available female. It is the woman’s arousal that is most fulfilling for a man.

This is why lesbian sex is arousing to hetero males. It shows the woman interested in sex, aroused by sex, and open to the same stimuli that men relate to.

There are fetishists who like other things, but they are a minority.

If you don’t find out, we’ll all be disappointed. Let us know.

Most sexual images of women, whether hardcore or softcore, involve sexual display positions of one sort or another. In the case of softcore, it’s more subtle, with the woman displaying with the curve of an artfully presented hip or by thrusting her breasts forward.

Obviously a woman who spreads her legs and her vulva is making a visual request to be penetrated, the most explicit presentation possible. Probably the websites are doing it because it attracts horny male visitors.
