Portlandia has returned, if you're hip enough

Thursday nights. The opener had some good moments, but they still can’t seem to come up with 20 minutes of funny material. Dressing in drag can’t carry the day. At least The Good Wife is also back, and The Americans returns this month.

I always feel bad when I see something really funny on Portlandia, because I tell people to watch the show. Then they watch the show and see that it’s not really funny as a whole.

But there are some really funny bits! I guess like any sketch show…

The part with Armisen doing the “Devil Wears Prada” lampoon was very funny.

I only watch it ironically.

like lots of comedies it has funny bits.

This is why I love my DVR. I noticed last night that a new episode had been recorded; until I saw the OP here I had no idea what day or time the show airs…

Like any sketch show, the humor is sometimes hit and miss, but it’s still firmly entrenched on our ‘Must See [del]TV[/del]DVR’ list.

But do you wear a plaid shirt as well?

Ironically.

This season was a little bit of a letdown for me, but I still enjoyed it. I was kind of hoping that Michael Nesmith might reprise his role as Kyle’s dad, but no such luck.

Glad to see other people feel the same way about it.

The whole episode was one story. Have they done that before?

I haven’t seen the show although I’ve heard about it. I just wanted to say I like the OP’s “if you’re hip enough.” Good lord, I remember when hip people were called hep cats.

The brunch episode was one overall story, though with several different characters in line. I think this was the first episode with just one story and just focusing on two characters.

This makes you the ultimate hipster. Do you drink Pabst?

I drank Pabst before it was cool.

Seriously. I’m from Wisconsin. I went to college. it was cheap. I saw it for 0.99 a six-pack once. Pabst, Miller, Schlitz, Old Mil and Old Style. They were as common as cheese curds and Friday nite fish fry.

I thought the first episode was good! Not sure if they do much better with a coherent full-half-hour story or what. But I enjoyed it.

Didn’t enjoy the season opener. Too much of Candace. Not enough Toni.

The long format thing just didn’t work. Not really a Portlandia episode in essence. More of a New Yorkia show. Pffft.

They might be setting things up for this story to continue. E.g., the CRalton guy sees the story in the Killingsworth paper, shows up to gets his revenge, etc. More pffft.

The secondary actors in this one mostly sucked.

If you put in the freezer for, like, five minutes, that’s not a problem anymore.

It’s Wisconsin. Put it outside for like, one minute.

I liked it, but I’m a sucker for shows that humorously stuff in an enormous number of references to the 70s, 80s or 90s.
