Joanne Borsodi says she heard several noises outside, and then while three of them went outside to check it out, the suspect, entered the house where he was confronted by her boyfriend, who was armed with a shotgun.
…
Borsodi held the suspect at gunpoint till police arrived.
DGU with no injuries. I would recommend against leaving the house if there are suspected ne’er do wells outside.
Witness holds stabbing suspect at gunpoint: http://www.9news.com/news/crime/witness-holds-stabbing-suspect-at-gunpoint/231790490
LARIMER COUNTY - Larimer County Sheriff’s deputies say a stabbing witness held the suspect at gun point until authorities arrived Friday night.
At 8:57 p.m., deputies responded to a report of a stabbing in the area of Rist Canyon Road and Larimer County Road 23E Belluvue. It was reported that a woman was stabbed in the neck and hands.
An investigation revealed that the victim and suspect were traveling in a vehicle when an argument started. The victim pulled over and exited the vehicle to call 911 when the suspect attacked her with the knife.
The suspect was still in the area and one witness to the incident held the suspect at gunpoint while he was on the phone with emergency operators.
DGU with no shots fired, likely preventing additional grave injuries.
Pharmacy owner with pistol shoots robber with shotgun: Officials Release Details, File Charges In Fatal Pharmacy Shooting - LevittownNow.com

Store employee shoots robber after robber shot at him: Attempted robbery ends with deadly confrontation - ABC30 Fresno
EASTON, Calif. (KFSN) – A 17-year-old Fresno boy has died after a robbery attempt and shootout at a store in Easton.
Sheriff’s deputies said Isaac Garcia of Fresno was one of two armed suspects who attempted to rob the Jiffy Store on Elm Avenue. But the store owner had a gun and shot the teen after he was fired on.
Deputies said surveillance video shows the young man and a companion rushed into the store, and confronted the owner who was behind the counter.
“Almost immediately, the clerk and the robber drew guns on each other. It looks like the robber shot at the clerk first, missed him, the clerk fired back,” said Tony Botti, Fresno Co. Sheriffs’Dept.
DGU with robber/shooter killed and no other injuries. Accomplice being sought.

This part from the story stood out:
“When the masked subject landed, Lee stated he appeared to be reaching for something, which caused Lee to continue to fire until Lee felt the ‘threat was neutralized,’” an affidavit filed Friday evening by Falls Detective Michael Callahan and Bucks County Detective Eric Landamia stated.
Lee ordered the suspect to stop moving as he laid on the floor, according to police. “I’m not moving,” the dying suspect reportedly said.
Detectives said they reviewed the crystal-clear surveillance video from the pharmacy and Lee’s story checked out. The footage even shows the suspect reaching for his shotgun after being shot initially.
This is a person who was prepared both for the encounter and for the aftermath. Fire until the threat is neutralized.
In other news, Torrance jewelry store owner fatally shoots alleged robber
The owner of Leilani’s Jewelers, at 18099 Prairie Ave., shot the suspected robber just before noon, Sgt. Paul Kranke, a spokesman for the Torrance Police Department, said. The man barged into the business with a gun, but the owner had his own gun and opened fire, Kranke said.
Police found a gun at the scene that they believe belonged to the dead man, who had no identification information on him, Kranke said.
DGU with one death. I notice from the image that the jewelery store is named after the owner’s daughter.

In other news, Armed employee stops workplace shooter on the Southside
“I get out of the car and everybody’s screaming, active shooter, active shooter,” Curry says.
That’s when he apparently pulled out his own gun, once he saw the shooter pick up a bat, after his gun jammed.
Curry says, “He’s like, ‘no, you need to put the gun down’. I was like, ‘that’s not gonna happen man. It’s not. You just killed someone. I can’t take my gun off of you. I can’t.’”
DGU with no injuries related to the DGU, though there was one death related to the workplace shooting. The shooter was arrested shortly after, but it’s unclear how he was able to leave the scene.
In other news, DeKalb County father fatally shoots alleged home intruder
The father told police that he heard someone knock on his door, according to the news station. He didn’t recognize the men so he and his son went upstairs. Moments later, when the father heard the intruders burst through the front door, he grabbed his son and hid in the closet, police told the station.
The homeowner told police he could hear the men stealing things, according to Channel 2.
Investigators told Channel 2 that when the two intruders opened the closet door, the homeowner shot and killed one of the suspects. The other intruder ran.
DGU with one death. 4v1 and the one prevailed. Hiding in the closet is fine, though a more tactical position with better cover and sight lines could be better.
Did the fellow who ran take the homeowner’s valuables?

In other news, Man killed in South Salt Lake backyard may have previously lived there
Friday night, Trujillo was in the backyard of that address when the current homeowner found him. The homeowner, 37, told police he went to investigate a noise in his yard and was confronted by Trujillo, who was holding a knife, according to South Salt Lake police detective Gary Keller.
Keller said the “confrontation quickly escalated” and Trujillo was shot and later pronounced dead.
DGU with one death. This time it is the much older person that was the aggressor. It looks like mental illness was involved here which is unfortunate.
I wonder if that business has a policy banning employees from carrying while at work. If so, it wouldn’t have stopped the shooter, but might have prevented the employee from being able to stop the shooter.

In legal news in CA -
There are more than a dozen anti-gun bills in the state assembly winding through the legislative process and most appear they will continue to move forward. In addition, there is a ballot initiative being pushed by gubernatorial candidate Gavin Newsom called the “Safety for All Act of 2016”. That’s the bad news. A number of groups are opposing the ballot measure and desired to use video footage of activity on the legislative floor. This is illegal in CA . That’s right, a person can’t use the video of their own legislators on the assembly floor to support or oppose a ballot measure.
California Government Code § 9026.5 provides — on pain of criminal prosecution — that
No television signal generated by the Assembly shall be used for any political or commercial purpose, including, but not limited to, any campaign for elective public office or any campaign supporting or opposing a ballot proposition submitted to the electors.
As used in this section, “commercial purpose” does not include either of the following:
(1) The use of any television signal generated by the Assembly by an accredited news organization or any nonprofit organization for educational or public affairs programming.
(2) As authorized by the Assembly, the transmission by a third party to paid subscribers of an unedited video feed of the television signal generated by the Assembly.
The Firearms Policy Coalition, joined by many including Eugene Volokh have sued on the grounds this violates the first amendment. The judge in the case just granted a preliminary injunction against enforcement of this law.
Many of the anti-gun efforts will still pass in CA, but at least the courts still recognize the first amendment, if not the 2nd.

In other news, ONTARIO RESIDENT SHOOTS INTRUDER DURING APPARENT HOME INVASION
Corrall’s son, John Cortes, initially said he and his parents ran to his sister’s bedroom after hearing her screams, but Corrall later said his daughter heard suspicious noises. While searching his home, Corrall said he found Chavez lying on the ground near the family’s pool table. He believes his right to bear arms is what protected his family.
“What would have happened if I didn’t? We would have had a big ol’ pillow fight? I’m a hardworking guy. Me and my wife work for what we got here, and our kids and stuff. I just believe that if we don’t have rights to bear arms, how else am I going to defend my family?” Corrall said.
DGU with no deaths. It’s hard to parse exactly what happened before the intruder was found. Break into people’s homes and your chances of getting shot goes up dramatically.

In other news, Armed Michigan woman stops burglars amid rash of home invasions
The morning of Wednesday, March 9, Bay County sheriff’s deputies responded to a home invasion complaint on West Neuman Road in rural Mount Forest Township. The female resident told police two men came to her house and rang her doorbell, but she did not answer, according to Undersheriff Troy Cunningham.
The men then went to her screened porch, entered that, then kicked in her house’s door, Cunningham said. Upon entering, the intruders were met by the resident brandishing a pistol toward them, Cunningham said.
The woman did not fire. The men fled the house and drove away in an unknown vehicle.
DGU with no injuries or shots fired. When strangers ring the doorbell it’s a decision point whether to answer. Answering verbally through the door lets them know your home, but also places you in a risk area. Not answering may give false indication you are not home and persuade folks that they should break in at that time.

In other news, St. Paul Man Assaulted; Wife Scares Off Attackers With Gun
The neighbor, 32-year-old Bruce Chang, bears the ugly facial wounds that nearly cost him his left eye. He was attacked by a group of young men who were gambling on his driveway, blocking his access as he returned home from work.
…
He was assaulted by a mob of 15 to 30 young men gambling on his driveway. They threw rocks and jabbed a stick at his face, striking him just below his left eye.
…
Chang’s wife also has a firearm-carry permit. Because he can’t take his pistol to his workplace, Chang didn’t have it Monday when he pulled into his driveway.
“I’m also thinking that might be a deterrent factor, because my wife was able to come out of the house with her piece,” he said
That’s when his attackers ran off. Though he was bleeding and badly injured, Chang snapped a picture as several drove off in a burgundy Saturn sedan.
Neighbors blame troublemakers from a nearby park and community center, adding that police can only do so much to deter the crime. Gary Worden has lived in the neighborhood for 25 years.
“They can patrol but they can only react,” he said. “I’ve called a million times over I don’t know how many years.”
DGU with no shots fired. With 15-30 potential attackers I’m not sure what one person would be able to do. Another instance where more ammunition would be desireable.
Oh god, if only she’d had an AR-15 with multiple extended mags she could have obliterated all 30 of them.
