It would be terrible. It would also be far better than a number of bad outcomes that could have happened had she not been able to defend herself and her sister.
DGU with one death. Similar situation here where attacker initiated the conflict and the person was able to defend herself. Here shot placement was better placed to immediately stop the threat.
So I started this thread approximately 1 year ago and I’ve learned a few things since then. While stories are easy to come by, making a point to post about them is more time consuming than I thought - especially on weekends. Another thing I learned is that a lot of these stories sound the same, taking place over and over in different parts of the country.
My original goal was to highlight stories that didn’t often get a lot of coverage. That being said, after a year of maintaining the thread I’ll be tapering down regular additions and probably only add stories of significance now and then.
That is completely understandable, and you deserve kudos for a job well done. Because these stories are often only reported on a local basis, and ignored by the mainstream press, they are probably not easy to come by. Thank you for all of your posts, Bone.
I must say the reporting on “mundane” incidents, though maybe tedious to compile, does provide some balance by showing that one of the main pro-gun arguments is not just pulled out of thin air. One may feel it does not tilt the total overall cost-benefit assessment vs. misuse, but it is real.
One of the things I draw from here (besides the aforementioned observation of how many miscreants bring a nonprojectile weapon to a gunfight) is that another common concern, of that someone using in proper self-defense will be exposed to all manner of suits and charges, appears to have been a bit overstated. Sure you WILL be investigated and likely disarmed while the query proceeds… but from these cases it seems if it’s clearly legit the call will be made sooner than later.
DGU with one death. After a high speed chase a traffic officer was being assaulted by a motorist and a passerby had the presence of mind to intercede. Here is an incident of a police officer being aided by an armed civilian.
I’ve never been worried about smart and decent people carrying guns – I’m worried about all the idiots (and bad people, of course) with guns. I wonder what the stats say about just the idiots, and how idiocy compares to other usage of guns.
You can’t have good decent people that use guns positively unless you also let idiots buy guns freely. If they are not also criminals or judged mentally unfit, the Second Amendment guarantees the right of morons and jackasses alike to buy as many guns as they want. All we can do is wait until they hurt themselves or others to do anything about it.
Some days it just doesn’t pay to come into work. First you have to stock the shelves and mop the floors. Your long shift ends and then a guy with a machete chases you around the parking lot.
Fortunately you are armed and shoot the guy. No fatalities. Bad guy is in the hospital.
There is a link to the video from the home surveillance system on the left. I will refrain from any commentary about her technique other than to observe it was effective. Obviously we have no way of knowing what would have happened if she hadn’t been armed, but I’m sure she would have been more traumatized than she is now.
tldr; Three armed home invaders -v- armed woman resident. -> One dead criminal and the woman physically unharmed.
