Possible New Farscape Mini-series! Fans come and rejoice!

How about those 'Scapers? Getting news about this upcoming Farscape miniseries is the most excited I’ve gotten about television in a long time. I was wondering if you’ve seen anything like this before? I know fan movements have kept shows on the air before — for example, Roswell and Once and Again — but have you ever heard of a movement actually bringing one back? I know it’s only a miniseries, but now at least the series will get the closure it deserves. And one of the best parts of the whole thing is that it won’t be airing on the Sci Fi Channel. — Heidi

Ah, Farscape. In a year of so much disappointment, when adventurous shows that have the bad luck not to air on HBO or FX are given mostly cold shoulders by the networks, hearing that a four-hour Farscape miniseries is in the works — probably to air in syndication, although distribution plans are as of this writing unannounced — is a great way to start a Thanksgiving-week column. I am thrilled we’ll get at least one more rip-roaring adventure out of this franchise, which left us hanging with one of the more upsettingly ironic “to be continued…” tags in TV history. Couldn’t be happier. As for other examples of TV resurrection, the most famous undoubtedly is Cagney & Lacey, which CBS cancelled, then brought back the following season after fan outcry. It then went on to have a healthy, long run.

This does make sense, as the series’ last episode was intended to be a cliffhanger for the next season- not to actually end the series. In addition to the Family Guy news, there is much to be thankful for in TV-Land this week.

Let’s hope it’s better than the final season of the show, which was sub-Battlestar Gallactica crap.

Well, I’m happy. Though I haven’t seen the 4th season yet. (Waiting for it to be released by Netflix.) There’s lots of speculation (and no answers) going on at the watchfarscape.com forums about where the series will air, and whether it’s a prelude to a 5th season. (Seems like a lot of work and expense to rebuild the sets for just 4 1-hour episodes.)

Filming starts next month!
