Post Your 2007 NFL Draft Rants Here

I think this was my last draft on ESPN. First they started off with that annoying little black and white vignette that was supposed to be the inside of draft room. Like I needed that.

Then after the beginnings of round 2, when we know less about the players, we get even less analysis! They start skipping over them to have painfully uncomfortable interviews between Keyshawn Johnson and his alumn out of USC. I don’t mind hearing about Brady Quinn some more, but I’d really like to know a little bit about Doug Free. We haven’t got three months of hearing about him, could we just get 45 seconds?

So, I’ll see what the NFL network offers next year. I’ll miss Jaws, I like his analysis but it’s so infrequent.

Yeah, but did you learn enough about Brady Quinn?

Who?

ESPN would be so disappointed. You do realize that getting you to know Brady Quinn and his life of struggle was their main objective. Draft? What’s that?

Well, if I owned an NFL club and had Army and Navy in my division, I’d draft him in a heartbeat.

You’re an idiot.

Well, obviously, Hostetler helped out there.

Much like Eli’s performance, reality is somewhere in the middle. Eli has not quite cracked the top half of the league in terms of passer rating. I think he at least needs to do that once if he’s going to be listed as better than Phil Simms.

OTOH, he’s been out there, putting up solid performances as a starter, something you can’t say about many first round busts. He’s not living up to ridiculously lofty expectations, but that’s different than being a total bust.

Love it love it love it! First, the Notre Dame hopeful are once again dashed as touchdown jesus turns the other cheek on them.

Then, my Miami-loving friends are crushed and dismayed by their first pick.

Ok, so Andy Reid makes another blunder and starts the "Kolb era, but at least Chris Berman will one day say “Kevin, corn on the Kolb”.

I am floored by the quality of your argument.

Back to the ranting, the Browns only got the one high quality lineman, who I will will love forever based on his brilliant decision to spend draft day fishing instead of going to NY for the bore-fest. I like Brady Quinn, but Cleveland still needs lineman. Quinn isn’t an upgrade over Charlie Frye.

I know I’m supposed to be ranting here, but … eh. Kolb doesn’t bother me. Although I would argue that Kolb did much better in the draft than the Eagles did, relatively speaking, since backup QB in Philadelphia is pretty much a lifetime appointment.

Mostly I’m disappointed that I don’t have anything to get really worked up about, one way or the other. I never whined when we picked McNabb, and I’m not going to get all het up on his behalf, because I want to believe that Andy Reid has a plan. I just wish he would reveal it to everyone else, is all.

I guess to stay in the spirit of things, I wish they would have picked Posluszny in the 1st round and not done dealsies with Dallas, but Posluszny ended up in Buffalo with my other favorite team, so whatevs, I suppose.

I’ll join in with the Eli bashing. He’s not a franchise quarterback (yet). This year is the telling year. If he goes out there like gangbusters and lights the league up (without Tiki), then we’ll see. He’s erratic, but he’s got a great pedigree.

Would I rather have Philip Rivers or Eli? I haven’t seen nearly enough of Philip Rivers to be able to tell.

As a Georgia Tech student and someone who didn’t watch the draft, but whose roommate has ESPN sportscenter on all the time (>90% of the time he’s in the room), I’d like to make two comments:

  1. Calvin Johnson didn’t stay here for another year. This is bad enough. Now he’s going to Detroit? I’m never going to see him play again!
  2. Thank GOD I will probably not have to listen to any more Brady Quinn hype. I mean, really. Could ESPN have fellated his ego any more?

Any one from Notre Dame is automatically over rated. Not to say they can not do well, but the mystique is heavy to carry around.
