Don’t know if this is (somehow) related to the shttp change, but suddenly posting from my desktop (latest Firefox) no longer works. Anything typed gets the “message too short” error. Also, all editing options and smilies are showing as only images, not as buttons with actions attached to them. The buttons seem to work on Firefox for Android, which I’m using to type this. I’ll know if a moment if I’m typing this in vain…
Just thought to test–I’m using the old theme on my desktop and the new theme on my cell phone. I switched the desktop to the new theme and all the buttons are functioning buttons and I’m expecting this post to go through. So it is the old theme that has been broken somehow.
No such problem here, but I’m also still not being redirected, and instead being taken back to the HTTP version every time I try to post.
I also will note that my SDMB fixer script anticipated this change and so works, if you’re stuck using the new theme for a while.
Well, posting is now broken on desktop Firefox with both themes.
Test post from Firefox on Windows 10 desktop… Everything seems to work so far, and I’m not doing anything different.
Testing from Internet Explorer on the Desktop, old theme.
Testing from Internet Explorer on the Desktop, new theme.
And now it seems to be working again on Firefox desktop with the old theme. So I don’t know what the hell is going on.
This is probably a case of me needing to restart my OS, which I will do later today, but for the last ~24 hours, I have not been able to use any of the automatic editing features when I post. For example, I can’t select text and click “i” for italics-- I have to manually enter the BB code tags. When I try to click any of the icons, nothing happens.
Yes, the same here (as mentioned above.) But the additional problem is that for any text I do attempt to post, I get the error message “The message you have entered is too short. Please lengthen your message to at least 2 characters.” (Since my last post that posting now works again on Firefox desktop it has once again stopped working on Firefox desktop. I’m sending this reply through IE.)
Still mostly not having clickable buttons on “quick reply” in threads (signifying that the post wouldn’t go through) almost all the time in Firefox, though rarely one does have function buttons. And I’ve just noticed another Firefox anomoly–normally, clicking on a user name calls up a drop-down box with a list of options. Now it goes straight to the user profile page. Same goes for other functions, such as the search button no longer dropping down the quick search box with the advanced search option–it goes stright to the advanced search page. Internet Exploerer continues to work normally.
OK, I just restarted my OS and…
no change. Clicking on the edit buttons doesn’t work. I’m using the new skin, btw.
Now, everything is working normally.
Where the hell are the quote buttons?
Also, why can’t I start a new thread, or edit my posts? (Using Firefox on an iPhone)
And what is BB code? vBB seems to be missing.
I suspect that there are other posters who are having similar problems, but are silent on the matter because they don’t have alternate browsers/devices that they can post from. (Just found a new issue in Firefox–if you click to view a post by a ignored person, instead of simply showing that message in the thread like normal, it opens the comment in a new window.)
I don’t know if it caused the restoration, but I deleted and re-added Firefox on my phone, and now it knows how to read the Dope.
I STILL don’t know about the BB/vBB thing, though.
So, the defining silence from TPTB on this issue tells me that they have no interest in or intention of fixing what they have broken, so does anyone have any tips on hacks I can do on Firefox to bypass the problem? It is damn annoying to read the site on Firefox and then have to pull out my cell phone or open IE to respond to anything.
I am having problems posting too, from Chrome on a glitchy MacBook. No problems from my HP work laptop.
I just switched themes again from the new one to the old one and then opened this thread. I see that the formatting buttons are “live” so I know that this one post will go through on Firefox–but I opened a second thread and see that the editing buttons are noting more than linkless bitmaps again, so only this single post will go through on Firefox.
And I can say when the problem first started appearing–my last “normal” post happened at 2:39 EST on 12/08. I noticed and was confused by the inability to post (huh, why does the system think my post is less than 2 characters) a while before I found that I could post from my cell phone and made this thread at 7:21 EST. So the breakage happened probably around 4:00 to 6:00 PM EST on Dec 08. I’m now sure that it isn’t a mere coincidence to the https switchover.
