Wise potato chips.
Classic thin cut.
Just enough salt and fantastic.
A world of yum.

A few times a year I have potato chips, and this was one of those nights. It happened they were “Ruffles” (or whatever they’re called) low-salt. Made me feel all virtuous. To be fair, that’s the only solid food I ate today, after a job interview and screwing around on the internet all night, so it’s probably not too bad.
Prefer the Kettle Chips – none of the fancy flavors, at most black pepper., or maybe chiles, or maybe vinegar (but as a sometime-smoker, I dislike lacerating my mouth and increasing the acid content of my body. But since I know how to cook potatoes to my liking, I generally don’t bother. I’ll eat the shit out of some home-made French Fries, though – too much trouble, generally, as well.
I will dig up someone’s dead grandmother, tear her head off, stuff her neck full of Kettle Chips, eat them out of her esophagus, then fuck the hole I make with my blowtorch, if it means getting some of those, though. Now, you see why I don’t eat chips/crisps often – it makes me a bad man.
I chose Regular, thin cut. like Lays, but Lays suck.
Utz has the right amount of salt and grease.
Now I want potato chips.
I love the baked chips. Pringles would probably be in this category but they don’t have to be stacked or shaped any particular way, just baked. And if they happen to be sour cream and onion flavored that is all the better!
I love the kettle chips, especially the jalapeno flavor. I don’t really like ruffles, but I do like wavy lays, however, the flavor has changed recently, which is a bit of a problem.
Way back in the day, before Pringles embarked on their Olestra voyage, I really liked the reduced sodium pringles. The regulars are way too salty for me, and now all they have are the “light” or whatever its called, made with Olestra, which leaves a hideous aftertaste in my mouth. The reduced sodium regular pringles (this had to be the early-mid 90’s) were my very favorite of all time, now I skip pringles entirely.
That’s my default choice. Agree that they are as good or better than the premium brands.
I wouldn’t even put Pringles in the same category as other chips. Are other chips reconstituted like that? I will eat them in a pinch, and would prefer them over any kind of flavored chips, but they are in a different category, to me.
What about Cape Cod? I don’t buy them much anymore, but they are very good. Do they qualify as “kettle”?
I like ruffled cut, but only plain. Potato chips should taste like potato chips.
My favorite brand is still Massachusetts’s State Line, but I don’t get them too often.
Lays potato chips are absolutely perfect. Crispy, salty, and light as a feather. The thick-cut kettle chips just seem tough and greasy to me.
This is an interesting question. If you were to offer me a bowl of chips, I probably would not pick a bowl of Pringles over another style of chip. But when I buy potato chips, I almost always buy Pringle-style chips because I like the container (handy for storing the leftovers for later and I don’t like reaching into a noisy, greasy bag) and because they don’t have as many potato chip crumbs as other styles (I greatly prefer whole chips to crumbs).
Ruffles every time. Best chip ever sold.
I briefly ate Pringles when they first it the market. You have to eat too many to fill up. They are so thin there’s just not a lot of potato in that can.
Ripple cut when using dip, kettle chips (Miss Vickie’s Sea Salt and Malt Vinegar) otherwise.
Moved from IMHO to Cafe Society.
Oh, and: kettle style, but I prefer the less salty varieties.
They actually taste like potatoes, at least the ones without heavy flavorings. I’m not a big fan of potato chips–or of fries, for that matter, though I’ll eat both. I do have an odd taste for raw potato, sliced and sprinkled with a little salt and black pepper. The Lays salt & pepper kettle chips remind me of that, only crunchier and longer-lasting. I’d have to pick them as my favorite chips.
Kettle style, but once in a while I enjoy Ruffles for that weird lye fizz.
Lay’s Lightly Salted, in the light blue bag. I literally can’t keep a bag overnight in the house. Ultra thin, crispy, with lotsa foldovers. They go down too easy… I buy Doritos a lot because I don’t eat Doritos myself… I like Pringles next, and then Fritos… I don’t like ripple cut, they’re like cardboard and are only useful as utensils for men to use as a tool to polish off a container of onion dip. IMO.
I’ve always been a fan of ripple cuts like Ruffles. But I have to say I was watching a football game with my father a couple of weekends ago and we were eating some kettle chips he had and they were pretty good. So I could be persuaded to switch.
I refuse to live in a land without ketchup chips.
Prefer ripple cut, then the regular thin kind, then kettle, then Pringles. But really, I love them all. I also have a couple of chip/flavour combos I prefer. Ketchup is thin chip, all dressed is ripple (the Ruffles tiny ripples, not Old Dutch big ripples), sour cream and onion is ripple (Old Dutch style).
Sweet maui onion chips from Cost Plus World Market.
I have done this too. UTZ’s Salt & Pepper are the usual victims.
Hanging my head in shame,
