Polaris Industries Inc. has reported incredible sales growth for the second quarter (ending June 30, 2011). Sales for the second quarter totaled a record $607.9 million, an increase of 41 percent from last year’s second quarter sales of $430.9 million.

This link indicates that while sales certainly slowed, they hardly “stopped”:

Motorcycle, ATV and scooter sales remain below 2009 levels through September 2010
Year-to-date results through September, in comparison to a year-ago, include:
• On-highway bike sales are down approximately14 percent, with more than 265,000 units sold;
• ATV sales have dipped more than 23 percent, with more than 186,000 units retailed;
• Off-highway motorcycle sales have declined the most of any segment, down more than 21 percent;
• Scooter sales have dropped the least of any group, down nearly 11 percent;
• Dual-purpose motorcycle sales have fallen nearly 14 percent.

I don’t see any reason that those numbers can’t be attributed to the recession.

No, but it turns out they distribute a large portion of youth ATVs for Aeon Motor Co. Combined with Alphasports they are hold the number one spot for market share. I’m sure they took a huge hit during the lead ban. See below.

In less than two weeks, the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act of 2008, enacted August 14 of last year, will go into effect and ban all products designed for children ages 12 or under which contain lead over specified limits. The Specialty Vehicle Institute of America and Motorcycle Industry Council are attempting to get an exemption for ATV and motorcycle parts.

Well, not just typos and poor spelling. I figure something like: “I pick up the pile and put him on the table” in describing examining a battery (i.e. using “pile” for “battery”, which might be a literal translation from a nonEnglish language and using “him” for an inanimate object, as many languages assign gender forms to objects). If it’s done consistently, a skilled troll could probably convince at least some people that he’s making an honest but flawed attempt in writing in a foreign language (i.e. English).
