I can’t pick a fav episode. I’ve just been watching it for a short time, and havent seen enough. Although reading the above posts, I find my self saying, “Oh yeah. That one. No, wait, that one’s my fav.”
Oh, man, I almost wet my pants through the Meet the Beat-Alls episode. It was sublime. But the tooth-losing one was pretty sweet too - when Buttercup smacked Bubbles into the table, I just about died. My son thought it was hilarious.
I’d have to say Buttercup is my favorite, but Bubbles cheep-cheep-cheeping to the squirrel is a favorite scene of mine. As as far as villains are concerned, I’d have to say Mojo Jojo. Mainly 'cause his name is fun to say.
Whoops! Is my slip showing? Uh, Buttercup. I hate baths, too.
Favorite Villain: Him was pretty great. D’ya think they dropped him because it was too difficult to mass-marketize a high-heeled, mincing Prince of Darkness? Fuzzy Lumpkins was okay in the first episode, but he’s not showing any staying power. The giant monsters get awfully dull after a while. Ace and Little Arturo are very cool members of the Gangrene Gang, but Snake and Big Billy and the Basil Wolverton guy are less interesting and lower the overall appeal. So as much as I hate to go with the crowd, I’ll also choose that Curious Little Monkey, Mojo Jojo.
Favorite Episode: I’ll always have a soft spot in my heart for “Beat Your Greens,” which was the first one I ever saw. Loved the Head Broccoli (head of broccoli?), who sounded like James Mason. “That was only the APPETIZER! Here comes the MAIN COURSE!!!” A close second is the class “Mojo Overcoat” episode that Eve’s already mentioned.
“So, remember, kids, just say ‘no’ to Chemical X!”
“Yes. We’ve learned our lesson.”
“So, what was it like, having super powers and stuff?”
Girl: Blossom. The others have their strong points, but Blossom is the most rounded personality.
Villain: It’s hard to top Mojo.
Episode: None. There’s too many good ones. Just to nale some that haven’t been cited yet, I found “Powerpuff Professor” and “The Mane Event” particularly appealing.
“Him” is still around; he was in both “Moral Decay” and “Meet the Beat-Alls”, but toned way down.
Fave girl: Buttercup all the way. She’s cute, she’s got attitude (with a secret sweet side, though), and she can kick some major hiney. If she weren’t six years old, and a cartoon, I could have a major crush…
Villian: Too many to choose from, but if subjected to severe torture, I might let slip that I’ve got some real admiration for the amoeba boys. They’re inept, to be sure, but they’re very dedicated to being real criminals, so at least their hearts are in the right place.
Episode: sigh I don’t have cable anymore, so I haven’t seen any in a while. I don’t think I’m qualified to have an opinion here…
but my friend showed me the other day that if you turn on some fairly fast techno music while watching PPG then it starts to go together. Shades of Dark Side of the Rainbow. I recommend it purely for entertainment value.
The first time I saw Him, I felt a bunch of little question marks would appear above my head. I mean, is he the devil with claws for hands??? And is the joke that he’s so effeminate, they called him, Him? Too many questions about such a trival thing. The character, not the show. The show kicks ass!
(hijack)
I love all the PPGs, sorry.
I can do a dead on Mojo Jojo. And I will do it at the drop of a hat, with out warning, with out provocation.
Also love the ep. when it was a rainy day and they all pretend to be other people. Aw heck, I love all the eps.
Wish I could say that my kids got me watching the show, but it was the other way around!
Oh yeah. Well, with Him I always thought he was a cross dressing vampire with claws. But my brother said, No, he’s not a vamp. (Personally I think making Him a vampire would enhance his appeal!) i like Him because he’s so over the top and just plain zany.
Mojo is cool though. I just saw the ep where Bubbles thinks she is him. I loved that. Bubbles in that Mojojojo voice…priceless! And I loved Mojo’s quip about being a chimp in his birthday suit. And Bubbles with the bandages on…
Billy from the Gangrene Gang is pretty damned irritating. I was with Blossom on that one. The leader of the gang is kind of cool though. Still they lack the charm and charisma of Mojo and Him. Fuzzy is pretty funny…and Princess…aww.
Him is a lobster…that’s why he’s red and has claws, see?
And his name is Him because it’s his name is so terrible no one dares speak his name; it’s a reference to Wilde’s description of gay love (or at least, his love of Lord Alfred Douglas) as “the love that dares not speak its name.”
First off: Bubbles (such a cute girl, but can be tough when she needs to!), Mojo Jojo (I just dig the way he restates things over and over), and my faves are the one where Bubbles thinks she’s Mojo, the one when it’s raining so they have to pretend to save the town (The Professor dressed like Bubbles is just hilarious), and the one where they move to the Town of City-sville and get in trouble for destroying the bridge. And I must dirgress for a moment…
What makes PPG funny to me is that even though they are super heros, they still have some rules and act just like kids. The Professor makes them go to bed, they even got grounded, they have to go to school, etc. That’s why the raining episode is one of my faves. For example, even though they can fly, they pretended to, even making wooshing noises.
“I can do a dead on Mojo Jojo. And I will do it at the drop of a hat, with out warning, with out provocation.”
—I did it WITH provocation, recently. Standing at a traffic light on the corner, I muttered darkly to myself, “Chaaaaaange. Curses. Chaaaaaange.”
Highjack: It was Lord Alfred Douglas himself, not Oscar Wilde, who coined the phrase “the love that dare not speak its name,” in one of his sonnets. I just read a so-so new bio of Bosie.
Fave PPG: Buttercup
Fave Villian: MoJo JoJo
Fave Episode: so many . . . Just Another Manic MoJo (MoJo’s morning routine was priceless (paraphrase): “Excuse me. Could you please tell me where I can find some eggs so that I may buy them and cook them for my breakfast.” Meet the Beat-Alls was outrageous. Anything with the evil monkey works for me. And there was that episode where Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup decide to become “real” superheroes, and Buttercup becomes “Mange” and speaks in a hoarse whisper and can only go outside at night.
Another good one is where the girls get tired of being taken for granted and force the people of Townsville to figure out how to destroy the monster on their own (“But how do we get it to go into the bathtub?”)
Him as a lobster? Let’s compromise: Lobster-Vampire. It could happen. I’m impressed- the Makers of the Powerpuff Girls are referencing Oscar Wilde and Lord Alfred Douglas?
Also- how the girls go to day care, that’s so sweet.
“Girls…what do you say?”
“Teacher can we please be excused to save the world?”
And the one when the girls become femi-nazis. Love that one. And how they treated the Prof when he wanted them to clean their rooms.
“the love that dare not speak its name” - that is pretty cool, if that is what they intended. His character is so different and original. ‘Lobster-Vampire’ I guess, why not?
Favorite Episode: When sentient vegetables took over the earth and the children had to fight back by eating them. That was really a gruesome episode, seemed so much like cannibilism – but I loved it!
My friend sent me an MP3 of that “love” song. It’s quite catchy, actually.
And, yeah, okay, I suppose I have no excuse, I just watch the show because it’s cool. Still, I do watch a lot of cartoons, and I am considering a possible career in cartooning/animation.
One of my favorite PPG moments was in that promo commercial with Mojo Jojo on Who Wants To Be A Millionaire.
Question: Which of the following is a cheese? (I don’t remember the possible answers, but I do remember not knowing the right one…go figure.)
Regis: Would you like to use a lifeline?
Mojo: That is a good question. Because if I were to use a lifeline, it would increase my chances of getting the answer to this question right, and I could go on to another round. But if I were to use my lifeline now, that means I would not have a chance to use it at a future time, when I might need to use it. And therefore it might not be wise for me to use a lifeline.
Regis: Do you want to call a friend?
Mojo: Of course! I can call a friend! And then it would rrring at their house! And I could ask them the answer to the question that I do not know the answer to, despite my supeeerior intellect.
Your Fave PPG Villain? Princess. She is SUCH the anti-Puff! And I like to see snooty bitches get their come-uppance.
Your Fave Episode? Tie between the first Princess episode and the one where Bubbles proves she’s “hardcore” by turning the danger knob ALL THE WAY UP TO 11!
I love the Princess one when Blossom says…“To have puffed and lost than never to have puffed at all should be punishment enough.” And Princess: “Really?” And Buttercup “Sure but you still have to serve the time.” (Ah anyone have an exact quote on that? I wanna use it in a sig line.)
Also- my Puff shirt came today! I shall wear it…ASAP.
Pardon, the episode was “Bought and Scold”, not “Child Fearing” (the one where Mojo babysits). Sometimes I really wish this show had more descriptive titles.
I’m definitely going to be watching the PPG marathon on March 25, just for the chance to see The Headsucker’s Moxie and Equal Fights. (Missed it the first time due to CN’s wacky scheduling.) Judging from what I heard of Femme Fatale, she sounds pretty cool.
Okay, I’m a freak. I admit it. I hate hate hate the Powderpuffies. I don’t understand it, and I usually end up confused. (Stop laughing at me, I know it’s only a cartoon!)However, it’s my best friend’s favorite show (18 year old male- go figure), so I’m occasionally subjected to it, and I can tolerate it mildly. And I even bought the shirt…but only because it was a sparkly pink tank top, and it was really cute, and only $5 on clearance. Even I can’t pass up a bargain like that!
