Preacher, Season 2 Thread, Open Spoilers

I have a feeling the encounter with the Jewish man may have gone a little different in the real life version, making the introduction to the art dealer a little more awkward. But the machine broke down before we saw the rest of it.

It came across as Hitler having remorse and actually changing himself in Hell, making him slightly sympathetic before the beat down.

But that is how some versions of Hell work. You can redeem yourself there.

Are we supposed to guess who those other characters in Hell are? Anybody got any ideas?

You have to admire the writing involved to make Hitler the most sympathetic character in Hell.

Most people in Hell will not be famous. There are probably plenty of generic bullies of the same sort we see here.

That said, is one of the characters supposed to be a Stone Age human? He seems a little… primitive.

Yeah but by movie logic, it’s a little weird that the most famous hell denizon happens to be in the cellblock and all the rest are no name bullies.

Maybe the Stone Age man is Cain?

There’s an Australian movie called Road Kill or (Road Train) and that movie already used human blood as fuel for the semi truck.

Blood Drive is nothing new haha.

Is it just me, or does the second season somewhat lack a clear direction? I kind of still find myself waiting for things to really get started, while the characters sort of muddle around without really knowing what to do. I mean, just what was the point of the interlude with Tulip’s mobster hubby? I’m not sure we’re not in pretty much the same place afterwards as we were before.

I think the season so far has revealed just how dark Preacher can go and has now completely explained Tulip’s and his baggage.
They’re on a road trip to find a jazz loving God. I personally don’t expect a real detective adventure story. Maybe they have to find themselves before they find God? Now please forget I just said that sappy line.

Partly it’s a hook for the Dallas backstory.

Partly it’s character development for all three: Tulip’s emotional depth, Jesse’s violent streak, and particularly Cassidy’s willingness to lie and betray Jesse in order to have a shot at Tulip (which I suspect will be a growing theme).

Partly it continues the theme of confounding our expectations - Tulip, who we thought had the honest job and wanted a child was the one who lied and destroyed the relationship as opposed to Jesse the apparent drunken bum, and the big bad guy with the torture room was actually a loving husband and father who treated Tulip better than Jesse ever did.

Partly it brings the Saint back into the picture.

That’s a lot of story development for one and a half episodes.

WTF are the Japanese doing with souls? That’s just weird. Do the graphic novels go into this soul-dealing more?

Nah, neither souls nor Japanese are elements that occur in the novel. The tv series has precious little to do with the comics other than sharing the names of some of the characters.

I liked Hitler’s incredulity when Arseface asked, “Are you… bad?”

I’ve been fine with it so far, since they’ve 1) dealt with the problem of the Saint of Killers, and 2) have been finding out some leads (God loves jazz, the fake god audition tape, etc.) I was feeling this last episode that they need to get out of New Orleans soon though. I suppose we’ll see what happens with the Grail.

I agree that the plotline of Tulip’s husband felt like a bit of a waste of time, though… I’m fine with some character backstory now and then, but I don’t think it really told me anything new or interesting about Tulip. Except maybe filling in the gaps in that Tulip kept her criminal skills up while Jesse tried to make a change.

Making a metric shit-ton of money. Buy at $150,000, sell at $2.7million IIRC. Even with overheads and what must have been some very pricy R&D that’s a very tidy profit indeed when you add up all the souls in the all the cities they deal in.

I do like the odd little bits of humor in the show. Like in the most recent episode, Cassidy was talking to Denis in that bar in New Orleans, except that Cassidy had no idea what Denis was saying. Some guy at the end of the bar sat up and announced, “Excuse me, I’m a French professor at Tulane, and you’re completely missing what he’s trying to tell you.”

Interesting to know. That was a question I was pondering.

I’m kind of turning against the show. It’s not working for me anymore. When the “Flying Pig” showed up, I thought to myself, *“Ah, Yeah. I get it. This is just the writers giving me the finger.”
*

There’s a part of me that agrees with you - this is now DVR, second nite material vs ‘must watch commercials and all’ - that being said - the rise of the white suit guy was some fantastic.

“I think you’ll go places” (shoves him off the building then takes his seat). + the whole “Jesus in hiding” bit.

As it turns out. Hilter IS evil.

Anyone still watching?

Holy hell, that last episode was really out there.

Who knew Jesus was such a freak?

I think The Saint of Killers is a’ comin’ back, yessir!

I think the last episode confirmed that God was in the dog suit.

Ooh. Hadn’t thought of that - great observation!
