Preferred Method of Deodorant / Anti-Perspirant Application

It’s up to five now. I’ve known a few people who say they don’t need it. Uh, yeah you do.

I stick it.

Nivea for Men 24 hr roll-on. Sticks, gels, sprays? They’re all horrible, and I don’t understand their rise to popularity.

Female, Mitchum clear gel.
Years ago, I tried the crystal too. It was ok. I like a nice scent though.

Gillette gel user. Works great and doesn’t mess undershirts up with crusted yellow residue like the older types non-gel types did. Plus with the gels you only have to use a small amount and because they are much easier to spread around than the older types one quick swish and you’re done.

I remember the days of the crusted undershirts. The deodorant saturated cotton would become this hard, almost plastic like material over time. I stopped wearing undershirts about 10 years ago and have not had a problem with my dress shirts using gel dodorant.

I worked in the antiperspirant business, as a market researcher, about 20 years ago.

While there are, undoubtedly, some people who say “I don’t need a deodorant” (but whose neighbors will vehemently disagree), from what I remember, it’s apparently true for many people of Asian descent. Asians tend to have fewer apocrine sweat glands, which are primarily found in your underarms and groin, and which are a key factor in odor. Deodorants are not common products in many Asian countries, and underarm odor is often seen as a medical condition.

I use Degree (stick). I’ve found that not only does it work well on my pits, it works rather well on my balls too. (Longer staying power than Gold Bond.)

Yes, that’s right, my balls! Dammit!

I alternate between unscented roll-on and stick, with a preference for the stick.

My SO is one who doesn’t need any, ever. He’s got the Asian thing going on. One of our kids takes after me, and one takes after him.

I believe they should have a warning sign, lest any of your potential sexual partners get a foul-tasting surprise.

This is what I use, too. The cream stuff goes on dry immediately, like a stick. I hate that wet feel of gels. I will also use solid sticks, but find two clicks of “cream” is the perfect amount for application, while with solids, I probably end up applying too much, leading to that nasty build-up in clothing everyone else has been mentioning. That early in the morning, the less thinking about my deodorant application, the better.

What sucks, though, is getting an Old Spice cream-stick where the plastic grid cap on the top has a crack along the side… clicking the product causes the cream to goosh out the side and pushes the grid up… none comes out where it’s easily applied.

Anyone use antiperspirant creams that come in little tubs? Tussy is the only brand that comes like this that comes to mind, but I’m sure there are others.

Does anyone who voted roll-on have appreciable armpit hair? Because the couple times I’ve tried one mine gets tugged unpleasantly.

Having never tasted Degree anti-prespirant or Shakes’ balls, I’ll defer to you on that.

Secret still makes one, but it’s not easy to find. I know because my mom uses it exclusively and hoards it whenever she finds it for sale. Sometimes Walmart has it, but not always. If you have an Ulta near you they also carry it.

In days of yore I used to use a roll-on from time to time. I never had problems with hair pulling, but I had problems with it dripping away before it could dry. I haven’t had the same issues with modern gel sticks, though.

Male, stick (actually gel, though I’ve used solid in the past as well). I don’t use deodorant every day. I shower just about every day and I really don’t typically produce BO, so my pits usually don’t offend (my butt is a different story…).

Mmmmm. Yeah. Move along.

Oh, and you people who claim not to need it?

You’re wrong.

Damn LawMonkey, what kind of women are you dating? I’ve had plenty of BJs in my life but I’ve never had one go under the carriage like that.

I have the same issues with the sticks. Check out the variety of roll-ons from Avon. Google Search

Thank you! They even have unscented, which is what I need (I have issues with fragrances in deodorants, too). I will have to try it. I had no idea Avon made deodorant!

Spray, except when I’m travelling by air, when I use a roll-on thanks to the ridiculous liquids/aerosols/gels restrictions (the spray I use doesn’t fit in the LAG bags).
