My favorite songs for driving the backcountry dirt roads where I worked last summer were CCR’s “Bad Moon Rising” and “Up Around the Bend”.
nobody mentioned what century… picky picky…
Foghat - Slow Ride
Some excellent tunes mentioned so far.
I’ll add one of the classic drivin’ pop tunes of all time:
"Driver’s Seat," by Sniff and the Tears.
Also quite partial to Gary Numan’s somewhat detached “Cars”.
One last fave: Matthew Sweet’s kickass “Girlfriend”.
Every single song ever written by the Reverend Horton Heat. Yep, written, obviously, just for driving. Can’t beat it.
A great tune for driving (not fast, but with the top down and some sunglasses on): Take It Easy (not worth a trip to Winslow, Arizona, but nice none-the-less).
One I should’ve mentioned: “Turn the Page” Bob Segar
Driving fast:
“Run Like Hell”, Pink Floyd
“Sweetwater Pools”, Screaming Blue Messiahs
“I Ran”, Flock of Seagulls
“Barracuda”, Heart
Driving slow:
“Big Log”, Robert Plant
“Wish List”, Pearl Jam
“Babylon Sisters”, Steely Dan
“Coming Up Close”, Til’ Tuesday
Open Road Song by Eve 6. Best godammed driving song ever.
The Primitives: “Crash”
The Jonny Quest Theme covered by the Reverend Horton Heat, one minute and 41 seconds of scorched-earth guitar perfection.
Guy Incognito:
Driving slow:
Why the heck would anyone want to drive slow???
Chaim Mattis Keller
I have to agree with Bob Segars “Turn the Page”
“Free Bird”-Lynard Skynard
“Band on the Run”-Paul McCartney
Any speedcore or trance.
The Clash, “Brand New Cadillac”
“Ana Ng” – They Might Be Giants
“Rods and Cones” – Blue Man Group
“Catnip Dream” – Shonen Knife
The Bobby Darin version of “Mack the Knife”
“Coming Home” – Peter Schilling
Anything by George Thorogood (also makes superb drinking songs)
Mean Machine by Sugar Ray (back when they still rocked)
Hot Rod Lincoln (don’t know the artist)
Route 66 (any version, including Depeche Mode’s)

**“Coming Home” – Peter Schilling **
don’t you mean Falco’s Coming Home (Jeannie: Part II)? Peter Schilling is the guy who had a one-hit-wonder with Major Tom.
Anyway, I thought of another one: Foo Fighters - Everlong.
Well golden earring’s Radar Love is good, there are a lot more GE tunes that go with driving just as well.
others though include:
Moley Crue’s Kickstart my Heart
Motorhead, hell just about anything by them
Iron Maiden’s From here to Eternity
Manowar’s Return of the Warlord
AC/DC’s Highway to Hell, Hells Bells
Judas Priest’s headin’ out on the highway
I’ve got a load more too but it take to long to list em.

That’s the guy, and the song. I’ve seen it under both titles.
