President Biden Dropping Out of Race

Respectfully, duh. I will vote for whatever Dem they come up with. But honoring Biden would have been better acchieved without the media bloodletting, and the support of his party. He resigned, in my opinion, because the chaos caused made it pretty much impossible for him to run a campaign.

File in District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk’s (of mifepristone fame) court. He’ll order an injunction on the transfer. The Supreme Court just needs to let is stand while the case works its way through the Fifth Circuit.

Any “chaos” was Biden’s fault for not getting out sooner. I mean, after the debate, he should have proactively and autonomously made the move.

Heard this news while I was pedaling a stationary bike at the gym, so had some time to think about it. My thoughts, for what they are worth:

*Biden should have done this last night. It would have dominated the Sunday morning news programs, blowing the best week of coverage Trump has had (failed assisination with fist-pump poster moment, picking his VP, and convention speech, all covered in detail) out of the water on all the major news programs. Still got full coverage, but it could have been so much more effective, IMHO.

*Republicans (besides Trump) are calling for Biden to resign, so he needs to do something actively ‘Presidential’ to belie that (and also keep attention on the Democrats rather than Trump). Do what? Heck, I don’t know, but he needs something to stymie that argument.

*The Democrats really need to be good at picking their 2024 VP (and I know there is a thread for it, just a side-comment here). Harris-Trump is a comparison that may end up favoring the Democrats, now they need a strong and able VP. See the thread on that for more.

Life on the Politics and Elections board just got a lot more interesting…

Press on.

It is shameful what they did to Biden.

And by running him out they have denied the people who democratically chose him their choice. So much for standing for democracy.

Yeah, it’s beautiful kung foo. It’s as if their entire Nuremberg rally got not just upstaged but completely erased.

The Biden Administration is apparently taking cues from team Trump:

He drafted the statement Saturday with two close aides. Told more staff minutes before the statement went out.

I think this was done to ensure zero leaks. And done by Tweet so it could be done in an instant. Any other way would have to be “arranged” and that could cause a leak.

This is a disaster. Trump is going to win and it’s going to be the Democrats" fault.

Hell, even if he didn’t show signs of weakness they’d, the media, would “find,” some,“weakness.”

This puts Republicans in an awkward position. Democrats have to choose a nominee before Republicans will know who to blame for the Trump shooting.

No one ran him out. He could have stayed in and lost.

Who voted for him? For the 2024 election the primary ballot had the same number of choices as a Putin election.

Because of where I live and how the parties chose to run the primaries I have never had an opportunity to vote to choose who will become president. It’s always been long decided before I had a chance to be heard. I guess I’ve always been denied.

Agreed. It was a smart move. But it’s still funny.

X/Twitter knew about it ~20 minutes before the media picked it up.

All that said, Polymarket seemed to know about this outcome ~3 days in advance.

It is. 100%.

But is it something that can get better with time and be less and less of a disaster? The thinking with sticking with Biden is that it was also a disaster and was only going to get worse. It is a gamble.

But I agree this is a disaster. Any other description is pure spin. To me.

Late: I wanted this for what that is worth. I’m for the gamble. But it’s kind of heartbreaking as we go through it, especially considering how great a person Biden really is.

What the “media” would “find” wouldn’t be nearly as important as what “we” would “see” with our own “eyes.” Just like during the debate.

What the heck are you talking about?

Blockquote…But then, nobody ever lost betting for the Democratic Party engaging in nternal drama that spills out into the public sphere or managing to pull defeat from the jaws of victory…
We have had a wonderful demonsration of the reality of this betting strategy for the last three weeks. I hope they knock it off, and quit slinging rocks at eachother.

In addition to fixing the concern about Biden’s age, this also fixes another concern that I don’t think anyone has mentioned yet: Hunter Biden. As far as I know Kamala Harris has no one anywhere near her circle that has as much scandal as Hunter does.

The Democrats have to nominate someone besides Kamala Harris. She’s viewed too negatively. Heck, just last winter her staff was quitting.

How can you manage a country when your own office is chaotic?

I’ll pitch a name. Mark Kelly. Astronaut and highly respected. I don’t know if he’d accept the nomination. He’s a caretaker for his wife Gabby Giffords. She never fully recovered from the attempt on her life.

I’m thinking more that it is shameful what Biden did - by failing to commit to being a 1-termer. Not sure if it is his ego, old age stubbornness, enablers, or what. But he, and those closest to him shoulda known full well how badly his age made him come across. Cold or not, no one shoulda allowed him on that debate stage. And all the BS about how sharp he is behind closed doors. It is an EXCEEDINGLY rare 80 year old who does not come across as too frail to take on a bully. Not to mention to give the appearance of handling a job as demanding as the Presidency.

(I guess I should say “that SHOULD BE as demanding…” Unfortunately, we’ve had our share of figureheads. But a well-intentioned figurehead is preferable to a clown or someone evil.)
