Price watch (gas)

We just hit a new record high today - $1.28 a litre, so $4.84 a gallon. The previous record was set last May, so we’re still going on up. Estimates say we’ll hit $1.50 a litre this summer. My rent is going up $75 a month, but seeing as I live 12 blocks from work and haven’t filled up my gas tank in 3 weeks, I think I’ll stay at this apartment. And I also just got my underground parking spot, which came in handy for the recent snowstorm.

Clearwater, Florida

They had removed the second half of the price on the sign at the cheapest gas station I frequent, but I saw $3.55 and $3.51 on the way home today.

Mission Viejo, CA, on 4/22/08

Costco on Cabot Rd- $3.78 regular, $3.98 premium

Chevron at Crown Valley and I-5- $3.96 regular, $4.06 mid-grade, $4.16 premium

In LA, specifically Chinatown I saw a station with the lowest grade at $4.25. This was last week.

3.48/gal. this morning at the same place. That's up .40/gal. in a single week. That’s FUCKED.

I’ve seen $3.45, $3.39, $3.39.

There are 2 stations in Malibu that have been charging almost $4.50 for regular for two weeks now.

No transit strike, and we’re cruising at about $1.20 a litre in the Toronto area.

Regular: $3.799 tonight. It was $3.739 when I refueled this morning.

Prices have held pretty steady a week at $3.50/gal hereabouts. I’ve been hearing on the news that production is down, though. That obviously means higher prices and coupled with the Practice of summertime price gouging here in the US, I think the doomsayers are right about prices reaching $5.00/gal this summer.

Not that she’s the most reputable newswoman in town, but Robin Quivers has been reporting expectations of $9 or $10 a gallon in the very near future.

My numbskull poseur yuppie brother in law just went out and bought a Ford Escape hybrid. The mileage is almost as good as my Accord. I was planning on buying either another Wrangler or a full-size pickup, as a graduation present for myself, but I’m starting to think that might not be smart with gas between $5 and $10/gal. (which, by all indicators, is where we’re headed). Doesn’t matter that much, since I’m broke anyways. Prices may go down a little, but I doubt we’ll ever see gas less than $3/gal and I think if we peak over five here in New England it will stay above $4.

This could be the stake through the heart of our economy.

Bah.

I wouldn’t go buying a bicycle just yet. (or horse or donkey depending on your needs  ) Still have to get to work and cars are still somehwhat economical, some moreso than others. Just got to go with the flow and don’t get all twitchy over the forecasts of doom and gloom. Cars are my business and most of my peers figure it will get to about 4.50 to 5.00 a gallon before stabilizing. And if it doesn’t, what the hell am I going to do about it anyway. I’m still driving with my air on. It gets hotter than satans pitchfork here in the summer.

Up to £1.129 a litre for unleaded now, and £1.209 for diesel.

That’s US$8.43 and US$9.03 respectively per US gallon.

Paid $3.45 here in north Phoenix last night. Stations are starting to advertise 8-10 cents lower but when you get to the pump you realize that’s the “cash discount”. Never seen that little trick outside of California until now.

I noticed yesterday that gas dropped a penny to $3.829 for regular.

Interesting that diesel is more expensive than petrol in the UK, it’s a little cheaper here.

Having said that… I currently pay about EUR 1.60 per liter of regular petrol, which tranlates to… about $9.70 per US gallon.

So stop whining, pussies.

$3.55 9/10 for regular in the York PA area.

In California (at least North and Central) Diesel is way more expensive - like 50 cents per gallon more near where I work in San Francisco.

And the gas station at which I work is now at $3.959 for regular (no Diesel).

Joe

It was $3.48 when I posted on April 15. Now it’s $3.75.

Up at the corner of Bloor and Prince Edward, the Petro-Canada station peaked at $1.249/L for regular. It was at $1.219/L today. The stations out towards the freeway are always a couple of cents lower; they were at $1.202/L yesterday when I cam back from the airport. (I was catching a bus at the airport. Just changing buses. Nothing to see here, Mr. Security Guard. Honest.) Everything still seems to be cruising around 1.20 these days.

Diesel is about $0.05/L to $0.07/L more expensive than regular. I remember when it was significantly cheaper.

Concord, MA (independent station): regular was $3.549/gallon. Attendent expected price to rise another 4-5 cents this week!
Cheap vodka is now about $8.00/gallon-so can ethanaol be far behind/
