Does anyone, other than me, remember saving the little bags the peanuts came in to redeem them for prizes? The only specific prize I remember was a ballpoint pen with, I think, the peanut guy on it, but there were more. Prize offerings and redemption info were printed on the back of the cello bags. I’m pretty sure it continued at least into the '60’s.
Everybody at work, including some close to my age, think I’ve “lost it”. Maybe so.
I think I remember those. Never sent away for the prize. There were also a number of candy bars (Mallo Cup) that included coupons or proofs of purchase that could be redeemed for prizes.
Yes indeed, Planter’s Peanuts listed prizes you could send for. The list had some pretty neat stuff by my ideas at that age. Too bad I never got enough wrappers together…try looking for Planter’s Peanut prizes on E-Bay?
They still do, and so does the maker of Dum-Dum pops.
A-la 1970’s style, I remember Planter’s memorabilia with their logoman, Mr. Peanut, on things. For example, a semi-fancy ball point pen with Mr. Peanut as the clip. I think there was a Mr. Peanut bank, too. I’m sure there was more, but I don’t recall…
Were they prizes, though? I thought you paid for these items (plus s/h) with delivery in 4-6 weeks! Do these “prizes” still exist? What a blast from the past!
Hey, recently I saw a 1970’s teen’s radio: It’s a circular ring, but pivots to unfold
into an “S” shape. The (AM) dial was recessed within one end of the “S”. The speaker, as I recall, was on the outer surface of the “S” (when unfolded) or “ring” (when folded) of the radio’s surface - in hot colors, typical of the 1970’s!
Hey, when you grew up in the 1970’s, hot pink was the thing, baby!

There definitely was a Mr. Peanut bank. His top hat rotated and lifted off so you could get at the money inside his body. The coins lot was obviously on the top of the top hat. It didn’t exactly hold a helluva lot of coins, but it was a cool bank nevertheless.
All things Mr. Peanut. Everyone collects something.
Interesting that my plastic Mr. Peanut bank isn’t available!
I should have kept it!
