Problem children / punch list for fixes / TIPS AND TRICKS

The main thing I miss from the old site are the icons on the forum page that showed which threads you had contributed to. Sam’s Simple Theme does not have that feature.

Any chance it could be added?

(Sorry if this has been brought up already. I haven’t read all 400 previous posts.)

On the old board, post reports created new threads in the mod forum. That’s where all your additional “topics created” are from.

Why can’t a new thread have the same title as another thread? That was a surprise…

Really? You think multiple threads with the same title should be allowed? No confusion possible?

Thank you for the explanation and wow, I made a lot of post reports. BTW, do you have a mod forum on the new board?

The forums from the old board were moved intact to this board, so yes, we still have that forum., which contains all the old thread reports, warnings, etc, even though Discourse doesn’t work that way.

If the threads weren’t posted at the same time, not really. Do you find this particularly confusing?

running_coach must have an astronomical thread count. Even more than the finest linens!

It says I started 3142 topics of which roughly 110 are actual topics.

;jaw drop:

Is that all?

Well, yes, because I don’t meticulously track all of the goings on here. In fact, I don’t even notice the dates on threads. I just look at the thread title and assume, for example, that a thread named, “COVID-19 Sucks”, is the same “COVID-19 Sucks” I saw 3 days ago.

For tips and tricks I highly recommend this blog post

I’m not seeing my oldest postings – my earliest post seems to be somewhere in 2015, with nothing before that.

Is this a known problem that I haven’t found a discussion of? Or a known problem that has not been discussed? Or just me?

They seem to be there:

Somehow, while trying to use the filter creation system, the system inserted the word ‘date’ after the date. I assumed that was part of the date criteria. Comparing what I had, to what you had, I see that what I had was using the word date as a word filter. FWIW, I did not type “date” into the filter, it just appeared there as I clicked on things.

Have advertising if you must, but please do not offer space to click-bait sites.

This ad appeared at the bottom of a page. It is clearly trying to get clicks on a boob shot and the site is one of those that has one photo and tons on ads on each page.

Is there a way to remove the number than indicates that there are X unread messages remaining in a thread? It might just be me, but I find that kind of off-putting when it’s a thread I lost interest in and have no intention of returning to.

I thought briefly maybe just going to the end of the thread, but the unread indicator reappears with new posts, which of course it does :frowning:

You need to change the status of the thread.

A thread can be set to Watching, Tracking, Normal, or Muted. You can change the status with the button at the bottom of the thread, or the button at the bottom of the slider.

See also your Profile > Preferences > Notifications. You can change the way it automatically sets the status of threads.

You can also look at all the Unread topics from the link at the top of the home page in the SD Light/Dark theme. You can Dismiss them all, and optionally stop Tracking them all.

Thank you!
