This was such a good episode. From the model walkoff to Tim’s hilarious critique of Nick’s model to Santino’s hilarious immitation of Tim, I really enjoyed it.
I’m glad Daniel won. He deserved it. His design was creative without being too out there and inspirational without being too literal.
He has to be a strong candidate for the final three.
Andrae’s design was also stunning.
I liked Chloe but I wish she’d do some color other than blue.
I loved Nick’s top but I didn’t see the connection between the photo and the dress. I think he needs to start pulling back to the kind of winning form we saw at the Barbie challenge. One thing’s for certain: Tara’s definitely out. Daniel is not going to chose another model.
Santino as usual did not impress me. And I’m left wondering if he choice of fabric that mirrored Austin’s Grammy challenge last time was deliberate.
Kara was being way too literal and not creative enough.
Zulema deserved to go this time. She didn’t create a good looking garment nor did she did do anything at all interesting with her inspiration picture.
I didn’t like Daniel’s dress. I just didn’t. But then, I will never have to wear it. I did, however, understand it. Andrae’s was gorgeous.
Kara has yet to design anything even remotely interesting.
I feel sorry for Tarah, she was stolen from Nick only to lose. I liked last year when they chose the models every time, better. That way, the models were less props than they are this year.
Andrea’s design rocked, I thought it should have won. I thought Daniel’s was too poofy, but I hate blousy tops. Who on earth could wear something like that and not look like a cream puff on a stick? Kara’s was deadly dull, I thought she should have lost for that.
I have to hand it to Santino. He showed that he can listen to criticism, and he seemed much less obnoxious this time. His dress wasn’t bad by Santino standards, but it did look a bit haphazard. And his impression of Tim Gunn was dead on.
I’d like to know what everyone did to Zulema that made her so mopey at the dinner break. Nick had every right to be pissed that she stole his model, but they didn’t show him being rude to her about it.
I agree with the judges that Daniel’s and Andrae’s designs were the best. It could have gone either way. Daniel’s wasn’t real practical, and very few women could wear it, but it was couture, and a really imaginative interpretation of his photo. Andrae’s was a more literal interpretation, but it was very beautiful. Quite an accomplishment.
And yeah, Chloe has to do something that isn’t blue. I mean, it’s my favorite color, too, but come on.
Daniel and Andrae were both very impressive this time out. Daniel’s consistent performance has him edging ever closer to Nick in my estimation. And Andrae seems to have recovered from his early flop and meltdown. I thought Andrae should have won, but I can understand Daniel’s win, too. Like h.sapiens, it was a couture interpretation of his inspiration. They weren’t designing for Banana Republic this week, so couture was an option.
Nobody else really came close to those two. Nick was a bit of a disappointment this week. He seemed to be so upset over losing his model that it threw him completely off his game. I hope he bounces back.
Props to Santino for stopping before he went too far again. He listened to the advice he was given and kept his ego in check. His dress wasn’t great; but he showed growth. And his sense of humour is terrific. He imitates Tim so well it’s uncanny. The online videos are hilarious.
Kara is once again lucky she’s not out. She seems a competent dress-maker; but I’m not seeing a creative genius. Chole continues to be close; but not quite the winner. She’s a solid also-ran; but won’t win it all.
Was that the first time a model got to do the confessional? Tara, bless her heart, knew she was screwed when she saw Zulema’s outfit. The dress was simple, uninspired, unfinished and unoriginal. Then Rachael really stepped up her game to deliver the blow of schedenfreude.
I am surprised that Jay wasn’t more gracious in his critique of the designs. He came across as a full-of-himself jackass in a way that he never did last season. not that what he said wasn’t accurate, it was just delivered with this snide egotism that bothered me.
I really loved Andrae’s dress. Daniel’s was cool, too, but I liked Andrae’s better. Yeah, Chloe needs to discover the rest of the color palette sometime soon.
With every passing week, I get a bigger kick out of Tim. He’s so good at what he does, and I loved his sympathy over the whole model-switch thing.
Quote of the episode for me: “It’s a motherf*cking walk-off!”
Well, Jay seems a bit full of himself doesn’t he? Why didn’t Heidi see right away that Santino’s dress was almost Austin’s Dress from Season 1? Except that Austin’s dress was pretty.
Yay was being an ass…ok just because you beat out a bunch of other amateur designers last year doesn’t make you a great designer or a great purveyor of what constitutes great design.
I just loved the fact that for every snarky comment he made, the other judges were putting him down all the time. What was up with the ad for Project Joy or something? Please tell me it’s just a one-hour where-is-he-now special
Same here. I lost a little of my Jay-love while watching that. Also, I found Santino to be a lot more tolerable and gasp funnier and way more entertaining than the other contestants. Although, I’m not sure if he was subdued or just tranquilized.
Andrae’s dress was just stunning. I think I would have known the inspiration behind it even if there wasn’t a photo shown. It just looked like flowing water. Beautiful.
About Santino’s dead-on Tim impressions:
In the preview for next week, seems Tim catches him in the act and Santino turns about 3 shades of red. Hah!
I thought Jay’s comments were off the mark and pretentious. Kara, as usual, survived by being inoffensive. Zulema deserved to be the next to go. I wish Chloe would stretch a little more-- she didn’t need inspiration to do something clean-lines and geometric. That’s what she always does. She should have looked for inspiration elsewhere, rather than reinforcing her previous idea. (I don’t really mind the blue; I just wish she’d create something different looking.) Andrae and Daniel were both amazing, though I thought Andrae should have won. Santino keeps desigining dresses with high waists, full skirts, ruching, and detailing that calls attention to the waist. All of these things contribute to making even the model look fat. He needs to channel his talent into a design that a woman can wear. Nick pulled it together okay, though he wasn’t really up to par. I hope he bounces back for next week.
Santino’s designs are so bad, in my opinion, that they remind me of stick figure drawings by football jocks. He’s shabby chic without the chic. He’s Picasso with a lobotomy. He’s a talentless hack whose sole contribution to the show is as an object of derision and ridicule. He’s the most obvious producer’s plant I’ve ever seen, and I’ve seen a lot of reality shows. The fact that anyone else goes home before him has, for me, destroyed the credibility of this show. His designs are a joke — the aesthetic equivalent of wadded up toilet paper.
Oh. And I liked Andrae’s taupe dress the best. Daniel’s concept was great, but the bouncing bustline emptiness came across to me as a bit weird — almost like implants that deflated or something.
I pretty much agree, especially about the “producer’s plant” comment. He should have gone a couple of weeks ago, instead of Emmett, in the ice-skating episode. I said to my wife at the time that the only reason he got to stay is that his snarkiness and attitude is what the producers want. I also thought that he and Nick were lucky not to be cut on the Banana Republic episode, although i’m glad that didn’t happen because Nick is one of my favorites.
Early in the show, i thought Santino did a couple of really interesting things. They seemed different and very artistic. But after watching for a few more weeks, i came to the conclusion that he really has no breadth, no ability to adapt, and very little real creativity. He’s a one-trick pony, and while his “trick” works for some challenges, for most of them it just ends up looking ridiculous.
By the way, is it just me or is Daniel’s model Rebecca really hot? Unlike half of them, she actually has some curves and looks like she eats at least a few times a week.
It was an odd task. . . and seemed certain to fail. $100 is not much money to buy enough fresh flowers to cover an entire garment. Don’t these judges know how much flowers cost these days? That being said: Kara surprised me. She really pulled together an unusually beautiful dress. She should have won.
Sorry to see Andrae go, but he’s been a bottom feeder most of the competition. He’s lucky to have lasted this long, last week’s puddle dress notwithstanding.
I thought the judges were pretty nasty to Nick. . . but his dress was rather peculiar. And why wasn’t Santino called on the carpet for having all that tulle or whatever it was sticking out as the skirt? I thought of these garments as Rose Parade Floats. . . you know, every inch of space has to be covered with live plant material.
I really loved tonight’s show. Santino’s Tim Gunn impression was hilarious.
After watching the runway I’m sorry any of them had to go. I thought the designs were basically nearly all terrific.
Someone called Andrae’s design Audrey Hepburnish. I can totally see that. He evoked Givenchy with that look. I thought it was a clever use of materials.
I also liked Nick’s dress. It came across as very modern to my eyes. I don’t get the judge’s “vulgar” comment. Like Emmet’s skating challenge I didn’t see it that way.
I liked Santino’s dress the least. He didn’t do anything new or interesting.
I thought Kara’s dress was very pretty. The back was particularly attractive. Kara went up in my estimation in this challenge. I especially liked how nice she was to Chloe.
Chloe’s dress was also very cool. They finally found one challenge where she couldn’t use blue.
Daniel’s dress deserved the win this time. It was adorable. I really loved how he used color. With the immunity up for grabs I thought it had to be either him or Chloe for the win.
Is it just me or are they painting Nick in darker colors lately? He looked like a shoo in for the final three for the first few episodes but I’m not sure now.
I thought that all the dresses looked pretty decent this time around. I, too, was puzzled by the judges “we wanted to see more flowers” and “I envisioned something filled with rose petals” comments. Flowers are expensive. I thought Andrae’s dress was very Audrey Hepburn-ish. Although it didn’t seem fitted, that would be difficult given the medium. Santino’s impression of Tim (then leter getting caught!) was priceless! I heart Daniel - he seems like a genuinely nice guy. Could be editting, though. I loved Kara’s bodice and the back of her dress, but the skirt needed something more, I think. I liked that Chloe added a hat of sorts to her dress - when I think garden party, I think dresses and hats.
I swear I believe that Santino could throw up on a woman, call it a garment, and still not be eliminated. Sheesh. Agreed on the flowers thing, too. Why didn’t you use more silk? I gave you fifty cents.
