Project Runway 2/8: (OPEN SPOILERS)

This is one of my favorite shows of all time, but this week’s episode was highly disappointing.

It’s pretty clear how the judges (with the input of the producers et alia, per the words on the screen) called this one. Both Nick and Santino turned in suckage (admittedly), but Santino is better TV, is the “villain” of the show, so keep him and ditch Nick.

That was a mistake, I think.

Santino’s jumpsuit was just plain worse than Nick’s messy little suit. Santino’s garment looked like shit and was made far more poorly than Zulema’s red dress (and it was poor construction that got her booted).

I felt the show was pretty fair up till now, but now I have doubts.

Further, in the end I think Nick would be better television. I don’t see how Santino really has the skills to turn in any kind of interesting collection during Olympus, whereas Nick, although not likely the winner, has potential. However much Santino plays the arrogant jackass, I still don’t think it’s interesting unless he’s turning in good clothes.

What do you guys think?

Sigh!
At least Nick’s badly sewn, badly designed suit was finished and not falling apart.

If the designers are given 2 days to complete a project and if the garment(s) has/have not been completed at that time, the designer should get the heave-ho!
This is just not right.

I completely agree. Nick outdid Santino in this challenge by a long shot. I think even the mightily arrogant Santino knew this; at the end of the show, he looked nothing but distressed.
I thought Daniel looked good walking down the runway in Nick’s garment. The outfit itself was badl sewn and there were details that were wrong, but I thought the overall aesthetic was pleasing, and it looked ver Daniel. Santino’s jumpsuit for Kara, though was laughable. It was bunchy, unfinished, boringly colored, unflattering, and nothing like anything Kara might wear.
Chloe deserved to win, I think, though Kara was a very close second, and she’s really come a long way in the last couple of weeks. I’m sorry that she’s entering the final 4 without a win. She’s earned my respect in the last few challenges.
Daniel’s was not wonderful, but I don’t know what was so offensive about it. And why is Michael so fond of describing outfits he doesn’t like as being “80’s/bitchy”?

Zahava, I think you’re right about Daniel’s output this week: Not great, but I think the judges were using his immunity to make “good television” by really pounding him. I don’t think his outfit was that bad.

That said, I think he missed an opportunity. He didn’t go wild, as he could have, nor did he turn in something really wonderful. He rather much picked the least entertaining combintion: Medium-adventurous, medium-successful.

Chloe’s stuff was good, though I had preferred to see a jacket with the suit; that had been truly the tops.

Kara, yeah. Now that Nick is gone, we are left with a dilemma. Assuming for the moment that Daniel and Chloe make it next week, we will either have Kara or Santino in the final 3. Neither is really appropriate. Kara hasn’t won a challenge; I like her well enough, and she has tried hard and done decent work the past several challenges, she still strikes me as a competent but unambitious/unadventurous designer who consistently turns in B+ work. (The rules themselves tend to advance such a person: someone who never wins but who is never “out.”).

Or we can have Santino in the final three, who in my view just doesn’t turn out very good outfits. I don’t know wherefrom the myth of his “talent” has arisen; I’m perplexed.

Of course, either Daniel or Chloe could lose next week, putting both Kara and Santino in the final three. That just wouldn’t be good.

I also wish Andrae hadn’t been out. Tim in his blog supported Andrae, and I rather agreed. In any case, Andrae’s gutter water dress was sheer brilliance, probably the best piece yet created by the designers. He deserves a lot of credit for that, don’t you think?

I’m sad. Very sad. Between Nick and Santino, I would have chosen Santino to be eliminated. It was unfinished and looked bad on Kara. I actually liked Nick’s outfit and thought it suited Daniel quite well, despite the flows. The consolation is that Daniel is furious that Nick is gone. So much for the camraderie. Well, one of my top three and my favorite is eliminated. So, all that remains of my top three is Chloe and heh, Santino. Yea, he’s still in my top three. Still, I’d sooner auf him than Nick.

Waaa…

As for Danyelle. Another model that I didn’t appreciate until she was gone.

Despite Santino’s hilarious antics, I didn’t care much for this episode.

The look on Santino’s face at the end said it all. He really thought he was going to get the boot. That jumpsuit was dreadful and poorly executed. He knew it. The judges knew it. And from the previews, everyone else knew it.

Nick’s suit was more ambitious for a 2 day challenge, but his biggest problem is that he fell in love with that material. It wasn’t the right kind of material for a metro-sex suit. The same suit with a pocket or two in another linen would have been very nice. Save the soft stuff for a more forgiving design.

Kara got some help from Santino’s input, and she doesn’t seem sure of herself. I think she’ll be out soon. The things she’s done have been pretty solid, but she doesn’t really dazzle much.

Chloe’s designs impress me, and I think she’s capable of dazzle when pushed to the wall. The garden party dress was lovely, I thought.

Daniel can be very inspired. I liked his garden dress a lot, and some of his other designs were very wearable. The dress he did for Chloe wasn’t his best effort, but it wasn’t awful like that damn jumpsuit (which I will see in my nightmares for a while).

The producers are keeping Santino around to amp up the drama. I hate that.

I think putting spoilers in the title sucks.

But they were just so excited! They were backstage celebrating and she raised her arms in the air and whoopsie. That can’t possibly be anyone’s fault, now can it? Clearly not.

Santino can kiss my rose’n’lily butt. I hope the judges found out he lied to them and they bring Nick back. Especially since an armscye seam is more likely to rip on the bottom or the back than along the top like it was on the jumpsuit. At least he got a shave and some hair trimmed off. If only Daniel would shave obscene things into his remaining hair while he slept. I almost expect them to come to blows next week over Nick.

A goddamned jumpsuit! She wasn’t flying a jet or working in a coal mine! Jesus Christ.

[sub]This episode has me swearing like my grandpa. And that is not acceptable. I am too young to sound like I just burnt my hand cooking for a VFW pancake breakfast.[/sub]

I agree with SmackFu, although I’d perhaps use politer language. Anyhow, Aeschines, c’mon, you know better.

Obviously, I’ve edited the title to remove the spoilers. And, since there was another thread on the same subject started by annieclaus, I’ve merged the threads, as well.

I wonder how long it will take for Santino to claim credit for Kara’s outfit. They sure made it look like he was micromanaging her work while neglecting his own, which is his own damn fault.

I don’t think an ambitious project with few flaws should be punished over an ugly outfit that’s falling apart on the model. And poor Kara had to wear the thing. I really sympathized with her when the judges put her on the spot on the runway by asking whether she felt comfortable in the jumpsuit, and she didn’t know what to say. If she had been honest, it might have looked like she was putting down a competitor just to make him look worse. But you could tell just by looking at her that she really was uncomfortable in it.

Sorry about the spoilers in the title. I didn’t even think about it (stupid but not malicious).

I think he looked quite ashamed of himself. And well he should be! I really think he was ready to go home after that, and was just as surprised as the rest of us when he didn’t. That jumpsuit was a joke. It’s one of the ugliest and poorly made outfits I’ve ever seen come down the catwalk. How can they eliminate Zulema for sending an outfit out that was falling apart and not eliminate Santino for the very same reason? And his was worse!

Santino is the Wendy Pepper of Season Two. His biggest talent is drama. I definitely think that he’ll make the Final 3.

And also, what was up with the judges telling Daniel he would have been Auf’ed if he didn’t have immunity? That was such a transparent ploy for drama. Unneeded drama. There’s no way they’d have sent Daniel home because of that one less than perfect outfit.

I can’t wait until next week’s episode when:

Jay tells Santino he wishes he’d get eliminated. Heh!

I respectfully disagree with your comments about Kara’s outfit for Santino. It was HIDEOUS! The pants were NOT Madras. They looked like some old picnic tablecloth. The hat was piece-y and ugly. The shirt. . . well, it just looked awful. And I don’t think I’m being influenced by how much I despise Santino. He’s ugly. . . and his designer dresses him funny!

While I agree that the producers are the ones pushing Santino through, I wonder if Nick could have squeaked by just by adding pockets and buttons.

I don’t know if he could have done that. Patch pockets would have looked horrible and he had cut those pants so tight to the body, I don’t think he could have tried to open up the seams and put on-seam pockets in. They would have shown through the suit fabric and made it worse. Same for the buttons. He had designed the jacked to be really, really close to the body. I don’t think he had any overlap to work with on the jacket.

That being said, I don’t think it looked like a “Golden Girls” top. It was different, as a man’s suit, but fashion is supposed to be different, isn’t it?

And that still doesn’t forgive how badly it was sewn. It looked like a high school sewing project gone bad.

I also didn’t think Santino’s jumpsuit showed off Kara’s body the way that one judge said. I thought it made her look scrawny.

I really thought they were telegraphing the auffing this time.

Nick had lots of airplay in the confessionals. His was the only project criticized by Tim Gunn. When the judges were debating he was also the one they most clearly disliked.

But I am still disappointed it was nice Nick over a truly awful Santino. His was the most graceful exit since Austin from last season.

This is first time they’ve thrown out a menswear challenge.

I dunno, I at least thought Santino’s jumpsuit was interesting. The suit Nick made made me cringe at those horribly, horribly puckered seams. (plus, I’m sooo over Nick’s incessant whining and pouting) I’m a lot more curious to see what Santino will come up with next which won’t be another Greek heiress inspired fish-tail hem party dress, at least. I think Santino got way to carried away with the outfit that Kara was making for him and so neglected his project.

I was shocked at how bad Dnaiel’s Cloe dress turned out. On the website, you can see how badly it’s hemmed. And he didn’t take her body type into consideration at all. She’s not heavy but she’s got short, stumpy legs (as do I, the bain of my existence) and needed a dress that flattered them.

I think Nick’s suit (while poorly sewn at the seams) captured a great look for Daniel-80s throwback/hipsterish/capturing the androgynous beauty that is Daniel Vosovic. I melted when he walked down the runway, it was like all my Bowie fantasies were coming true…

clears throat

I could see where Santino could have pulled off a great 60s throwback Bond girl look with that outfit IF

  1. It had been finished
  2. Properly fitted
  3. He had used better accessories
  4. And had access to walking coat hanger…err…fashion model

The same jumpsuit, properly sewn with a pair of big-framed sunglasses and knee-high brown suede boots would have been all types of Bond kickass (if not my taste).

Unfortunately, it was just all sorts of badly constructed whack.

DV took a vacation this week…I think his Herve Leger silhouette that he pulled out for the grossly undeserving Nicki Hilton would have worked pretty well on the short Chloe Dao. I’m tiny too so I tend to wear things with really clean lines so I don’t look even stumpier than I already am.

TWOP is all up in arms at the ugliness of the Santino pantses being all “who wears that?”

pretty much every teenager in Lexington, Massachusetts circa the grunge era. I suspect Santino and I are around the same age, hence the nostalgic fondness for plaid madras-because baby, I found a pair at the Gap like four years ago and I snapped them up quick.

Chloe. Snoozefest but she did a good job. This year’s Kara Saun.

Bring back Austin (and Dramandrae)!
