Somewhere on the comments on the Project Rungay blog mentioned that, when they have guest models, the designer with the tallest, skinniest, most model-shaped non-model always wins, and the ones with more zaftig women are always in the bottom. Do you guys think this is true? It definitely was in this challenge. If so, what does that say about the innate biases of the judges on this show? Nothing good, I think.
I’d think that has more to do with the designers than the judges. They’re used to designing for tall thin women and so might be less familiar with how the clothes would look on someone with larger measurements.
That would be true if you agreed with the judging; then it would be on the designers, not the judges. The allegation here is not that the designers come out with better stuff for the skinnier non-model; it’s that the judges like whatever happens to be on the skinnier non-model, whether it’s particularly good or not. I feel like I should go back and look at the non-model challenges to see if it’s consistently true, that the wins and losses in those challenges seem less valid than normal.
I loved the dress Chris made, but I have a theory of my own. I don’t think that Chris will ever win a challenge no matter how good his outfit is. The judges auf’d him so they can’t let him win now without losing face. No way will Korrs and Nina ever admit they might have been wrong.
And yeah if Chris goes I can’t imagine caring who wins as the rest iritate the hell out of me.
Although you make a valid point here, I still haven’t forgiven the judges for giving Vincent the win over Uli in the Mom/Sister challenge last year. It’s not completely the designer’s doing. Vincent made a mediocre dress for skinny Uli’s mom, while Uli made a fabulous outfit that really flattered Kayne’s mom, who is not a skinny European.
Side note: has anyone topped Vincent’s line from that episode regarding Uli’s mom? “She just has this European air about her… .”
Chris and Christian are the only interesting personalities left on the show, now that Elisa and Kevin are gone. I think they’ll keep Christian to the end because every season has an enfant terrible (Wendy, Santino, Jeffrey) who is a jerk of dubious talent but whose hijinks, for whatever reason, entertain people.
Of course, my predictions are almost always wrong, so maybe Christian will be out next week. This is not to say I like him as a person, but I do find him funny. I like Chris better, but I think you might be right about the judges’ bias against him.
Add me to the WTF? Chris was robbed as was Sweet Pea. I re-watched the epi last night and noticed the perpetual mug on Victor*a’s face. She never smiles. I want her aufed just because I can’t stand her. Or her boring designs that have no detail except cheap crap that you can buy at Michael’s or Hobby Lobby. I was cruising Ebay and found her dress that won the SJP/Bitten challenge. Nobody was bidding and the dress looked like a blob. Rami’s dress did look like a lady who lunches and the color was awful and I don’t buy the excuse that he doesn’t know what prom is. I loved Chris’ comment in Mood “I’m making a Christmas dress with a pointsettia.” HEE. The funny thing is that I have a skirt the same green and wore it with a bright red sweater at Christmas and it looked great. I actually liked Ricky’s dress and don’t mind if he stays as long as he takes the Kinks’ advice and stops the sobbing.
Rami and Jillian will be at Bryant Park because the judges loff them but now that Kevin is gone I can’t predict the 3rd.
