As much as I hate Jeffrey, I really felt kind of bad for him there at the end. I can’t wait to see how this turns out.
I’m worried about Michael. Did Tim not have anything positive to say to him? Oh well, I’m sure the show is edited to make us worry because he’s the fan favorite.
I heard a rumor that the reason Laura suspected Jeffrey cheated was because her mother spoke to his mother, who said that he was having a really hard time finishing. And then he shows up with nary a stitch to do.
Just a rumor, of course. But how much would J hate his mother then, if it turned out she gave him away and helped get him thrown off? That’s what you get for being a druggie and making your mama worry, right?
OTOH, this show has been known to throw curves. Maybe the crying and hugging all around that was in the preview was because he didn’t get thrown off.
Still, the totality of his work during the episodes was often just barely passable. How may times was he next-to-last?
From the bits we’ve seen of the collections, I like Laura’s best. But I hope Michael wins.
Michael is my favorite too but his clothes looked a bit flashy from what I saw. I love most of Laura’s clothes but you really have to be flat chested to wear them.
It was great seeing them all at home with their families and stuff. Tim just cracks me up!
Interesting rumor! Wouldn’t that be something? I wonder if there’s any truth to it.
Was anyone else surprised they didn’t throw in a twist, like last season’s 13th outfit? I can see how things are pretty hectic already, since they have 4 people sharing the workspace, and they needed air time to show an extra family interview and an extra runway show. BUT I still expected something to throw everyone off balance. I guess Jeffrey drama will have to suffice.
That’s my guess (I watch so many reality shows that my first instinct now is to ALWAYS assume they are misleading us with the previews). I wouldn’t be sorry to see him leave, though, especially if it turns out he did break the rules. If he didn’t, well then Laura is going to look like a huge beeyotch. (By the way, that photo they showed of the twenty-something Laura? HOT!)
I always like this episode the best each season. It’s cool to see the designers at their homes, in their own city, in their element. It’s easy to forget in the context of the reality-show competition that these are everyday people, just like us.
I loved when Laura’s little boy offered Tim Gunn the turtle poop!
Laura can be a little bitchy in that she pretty much says what she thinks. She even sort of defended Jeffrey in the reunion show about Angela’s mom. She doesn’t strike me as the type to make things up. My impression was that the three of them were talking about it.
Michael even said he was going to mention it. She’s the one that said something and is getting the flack for it. That was the impression I got. But if I wasn’t 100% sure I would have NEVER said anything.
Uli did two things that bothered me. I watched the reruns today and I must have missed it the first time I watched but she took Keiths model and did that little laugh the same way she did when she took Michaels model. I think it was a little conniving. I can just see her egging Laura on to tell Tim and not backing her up.
I hope the preview was misleading because I don’t think a pissed off Jeffrey is going to be fun to watch.
I’m not clear on the rules; what can and can’t be farmed out? Jeffrey was pretty clear that he sent one piece out to be pleated. Tim didn’t seem to have a problem with that.
They made a bigger deal than you’d expect out of the turning in of the receipts, so I’m guessing something funky will turn up in Jeffrey’s. Then again, it might be more misleading editing.
I haven’t seen the episode yet but I heard the bit about Jeffrey’s sewing already and I would be very suspicious of him as well if he showed up with a bunch of impeccably sewn stuff. Sure they had more time to work on things but fine sewing skills was never one of his strong points. I don’t blame Laura for bringing it up.
I believe the issue is that they have to stay within the $8,000 budget, which includes all materials and labor (apart from their own work). Having professional sewing done would bet quite expensive, and I would think there are rules that prevent the designers from getting free help.
like in season one, with whatsername who had custom made shoes that they wouldn’t let her use
Based on J’s reaction to Laura telling him what she thought, and his reaction to Tim the next morning, I think he’s hiding something that he believes he can get away with - his receipts weren’t ready immediately - he had to pull some “sketches” out of the folder - my guess? receipts for work done that put him over budget
I remember last year Santino told Tim he had had some sunburst pleating done for one of his dresses. I think that if something requires specialized skills or equipment they can have it done, as long as they don’t go over budget. I was kind of suspicious of Jeffrey’s huge workspace. It looked like he usually has assistants for his regular line, which would make sense.
As to the receipt thing, it would be pretty stupid of him to wait until the last minute to pull out the suspect ones, but I did kind of wonder why they focused on that incident.
An altogether excellent episode. From what I saw, I loved Laura’s outfits. I loved her apartment, too, but the entrance looked like it didn’t belong with that apartment.
Michael’s house was adorable. I loved his little workroom and the bright colors. Just looked like a happy place. I also thought his introduction of his braces was cute. His collection, however. . . not so much.
Uli? I had no idea she was from East Germany. I always think of East Germany as a gray, sad place. That could explain her love of bright colors and prints. I couldn’t get a handle on her clothes, though. I think they need to be seen on actual bodies to make sense.
Jeffrey? Sad life story. Astonishing wife/significant other! (Get a new “do,” girl!) But Harrison is an adorable little boy and Jeffrey’s devotion to him is touching. Did Jeffrey cheat? I don’t know. . . but it seems many of us think so. I don’t envy Laura’s position as the whistle-blower, but I’m glad she brought it up. And I’m sure there will be some irregularity with the receipts. . . otherwise why make an issue of it? It’s just not that interesting as a stand-alone item.
they had to do something to make up for the week they lost by kicking Keith off - had he stayed, it would have taken one more week to get to the final 3/4 and this week would have been the reunion show
I dunno, in the preview it sounds like Tim says “But unfortunately…” and then there’s a cut to a crying Uli hugging a crying Jeffery. It’s hard to tell what happens. Maybe Tim says “But unfortunately, Jeffery, you were over budget and will have to cut some of your outfits from the show” or something like that. Maybe he has to throw out the ones he sent out for pleating?
My gut feeling is he didn’t cheat. His reaction to being questioned was too quiet and mellow. He seemed genuinely shocked. Or maybe he was just shocked that Laura dared to accuse him like that? It also makes me wonder if maybe there had already been questions raised because Tim was so quick to say that the producers would look into it?
Whatever it is, I’m betting it won’t be nearly the big dramafest that the preview makes it out to be and will be resolved in the first 5 minutes of the next week’s show.
Also, I love Michael but what the hell was that glitter pocketed monstrosity? Where’d all his great talent go?
And did anyone else think that Laura’s husband must work as a mad scientist? Because I totally got “Albert Einstein” vibes when he walked in. The whole scene was kind of surreal: prim and preggo Laura in her little black dress, kids running around like hopped up maniacs, Tim Gunn with turtle poop, and Albert Einstein. Talking about fashion.
That’s true! Laura’s husband did have that Einstein vibe. Actually it made me like her a little more because he seemed sort of normal.
I sincerely doubt it that’s their home. It seemed more to me like an apartment she may have sublet for a few months to get her collection done and hubby brought the kids over.
Here’s my take on the Jeffrey thing: Jeffrey’s been designing and constructing one-off pieces for several years. He’s got a whole studio with lots of space and professional equipment. He can get away for a full day, without a swarm of kids and pooping reptiles demanding his attention. During the show, he seemed to just go out and get his designs done, and finished early a few times (if I recall correctly). And his line was the type of sportswear he is comfortable with. Contrast that with fussy and perfectionist architect (not designer) Laura who needed to do her work in a crowded New York apartment and built her line on the more complex eveningwear. I don’t think it’s at all unreasonable that he got done what appears to her to be more work than she did.
Is it me, or did Laura just design a flock of Laura dresses (though some without the deep v necks)? I thought Uli broke out of her mold, though. I think Michael’s brilliance shows through much more when you ask him to design an outfit meeting specfic criteria, rather than saying, just design me something, so I’m a bit worried about what he will show. If he can get past these accusations, Jeffrey seems to have a strong chance to win it all.
