Project Runway 13

Huh, Project Runway must be starting late. Firs there’s a commercial for Best Western followed by a commercial from the Roman tourist board.

I think I have disagreed with almost everything the judges have said this season. Tonight was no exception. And I seriously can’t see how Char made it to show at FW.

For me, I liked Kini’s collection the best. Not that I didn’t have a couple of complaints, but over-all I liked it. And over-all I disliked Sean’s the most. So of course the judges felt the complete opposite.

As for Char, I liked her graphic design look, but thought the shorts should have been longer, or pants, or even a longer mini-skirt.

To me Amanda’s first look was bad. Her middle look was OK, and her last look, the blue and black, I loved.

Ho hum. Char spent $1000 on that fabric – make a gown! Instead of shorts, a flowy skirt with that top.

I still like Kini’s best and I don’t mind if it’s serious or mature. Does everything have to be young and sexy? He is the most talented and then is getting the most pressure to change.

Char has no talent. She’s also boring to listen to with that monotone of hers and her utter lack of insight about anything. Kini’s coat was literally the only thing I liked so of course the judges told him to throw it away. The problem with this season is the complete lack of talent. These contestants are boring hacks. Amanda is vaguely interesting but that’s about it. Kini is occasionally interesting but all too often he’s derivative. Sean is inconsistent at best. Bring back Fade and Sandyha!

If I hear Char say she’s thinking outside of the box one more time, I’m going to loose my good nature.

Do you think they’re giving Kini all this work just to see how far he can sew?

Seriously, you guys liked Kini’s looks? I agreed with the judges, they were really old and really uninteresting.

And doing his whole collection in denim, even if that’s his favorite fabric, was a really bad idea.

I get where Kini was coming from: take a cheap fabric and use it to create runway looks. It can be done as shown in a recent TLo post, some of which recycled 80s looks and some fresh ideas.

Using an inexpensive fabric gave him more options. Cutting into $800 or $1000 worth of Italian fabric is really daunting so I give Char credit for being able to do that. Unfortunately, her designs did not read “expensive”. I liked that print when I first saw her collection but I had no idea that it was $$$. It still looked like clothes you could buy at the mall which means that it was a waste of fabric.

Kini just threw every sewing technique he knew into his clothes and they all looked overworked. The styling was horrendous. At one point, he described his market as “Park Avenue Princess”. That’s pretty far off from his base in Hawaii.

IIRC, this has happened before where the mini-runway models had terrible styling and the judges criticized the designers for it and miraculously the final runway had decent styling. Not sure why a cosmetics company/makeup artist/accessories supplier would go along with such fakery. It certainly puts them in a bad light.

First, the runway show. Going just by the show itself I thought that Kini was the clear winner. I know you’ll disagree, but I thought that Char was second best, followed by Amanda, and finally, Sean. I liked Sean’s the least because of all that fringe ::shudder::.

And second, the over-all looks and the winner. I’m surprised at the outcome and didn’t see that coming. I honestly thought that it would be Kini. If it were up to me he would have won. Sean’s a close second, except for tonight. Again, the fringe.

I didn’t have much of a problem with Amanda, but I know that most of you did, so I’m guessing you weren’t too please that she was very seriously being considered for a win. I do think that over-all she was the third best of the remaining four.

I was hoping it would be Kini, if only because the orange muppet look was like the blue muppet look Heidi already wore, and Sean is a one-trick pony. I don’t think it’s fair to give it to him because of his potential – this was his big chance and he should have put it all out there. I was surprised Amanda was considered better than Kini – if anything she toned down the crazy and should have been able to do that all season but didn’t.

Amanda’s look was so 1980’s. The maxi looked like the model was going to trip, too long, she was using the pockets to shorten it. Most of the items were not flattering. Amanda’s dress she wore was horrendous! Sean is a one trick pony, IMO.

I really thought Kini would win.

When Tim said (in his wavery, verklempt voice) “you are the most talented group” I replied “you lying sack of sh!t.” This was the most ho-hum group–the talent pool gets shallower with every season. I wanted Kini to win because I like him and he turned out some wicked cool pieces. I would love to have the micropleated dress (skirt and top?). Amanda’s pieces were just baggy and boring. Char is nice but meh. Sean is a one-way monkey (thank you Dimitry) but his final orange dress was a stand-out. Note enough to win the competition though. I’m done with this show although I will watch All-Stars because of Dimitry, Chris March and Fabio. As soon as Helen gets obnoxious, it’s off the play list.

Maybe some day, they’ll clue us in onto what the judges are actually considering. It always seems to be counter-intuitive, and the audience always thinks the judges got it wrong.

I thought Posen said something in the judging like “more fringe Muppets” which to me, sounds like he doesn’t care for Stringy Sean’s stuff.

Despite the admonitions from Nina Don’t Bore Me Garcia, they always seem to end up picking what to me at least, is the worst and often fairly boring, or at least repetitive. White strings, black strings, black and white strings, orange and white strings, orange strings… BLEAH!

Sean’s stuff was well made, but it was less “cohesive collection” than the same thing several different times in different lengths and colors, and with all that there is to inspire you in Rome… Caesar’s assassination? Really?

I was underwhelmed with the whole PR runway show. None of the clothes really wowed me, although I thought Char pulled herself up out mediocrity and into clothes. “My collection is based on the betrayal of Caesar”?? Kini was disappointingly meh and Amanda’s look blah blah blah.

Did anyone else watch the PR Threads show afterwards, with the kids?

In the past, they’ve managed to have “cohesive” runway collections that weren’t mono-chromatic. I thought everyone’s collection was pretty much one color (except for Char) which I found pretty dull. Sean at least used bright colors.

Well, I am just glad Char didn’t win. I really didn’t think she was on the same level as the others. I think she only managed to stay after her save by not being the worst. I really wanted Kini to win. I thought he was more creative, he used a material in a different way from how you’re used to seeing it. But I wasn’t really wowed by any of them, they each had some hits and misses.

I agree with a previous comment about Emily should get Miss Congeniality. I was thinking the same thing. She seemed like the most likeable and least dramatic of them all. And she sure called it about all Korina’s negativity affecting her karma. But it looks like she has it out with someone in the Reunion episode. Can’t wait for that.

A boring end to a boring season.

I did like Sean’s collection, though, and was fine with him winning.

They should have set up the mini preview as a last-chance challenge and eliminated Char, though. She was so far out of her league it ain’t funny. The turquoise dress? And the white Kleenex dress? Oy vey.

Without knowing anything except what I’ve seen on the show, I have a feeling that Emily has spent a lot of time in another dimension (or several other dimensions), and she’s learned to really hold herself back and focus on her human interaction mechanism when dealing with normal people. Not in a bad way; it just seems like her behaviors and speech are very measured, and I give her credit for putting in that effort. (Or maybe I’m completely wrong; it’s certainly happened before).

Char shouldn’t have made it to Fashion Week, but she acquitted herself well with her collection (except for that turquoise/cyan abomination). Judging only by their Fashion Week lines, I’d have given her third place behind Amanda & Kini, and ahead of Sean. I’d expected a nail-biter between Sean and Kini, but it seems that Sean went off on a weird tangent, Amanda stepped up her game and Kini panicked.

I don’t know why people dislike Amanda. Is it because she sounds like she’s been everywhere and is bored of it all? Because that could be the result of being from Tennessee and having a low voice. She had very good things to say about Kini, Sean, Korinna and Fade’s looks at various points throughout the competition, both to their faces and in the video commentary. When the eliminated designers came back to help them in the penultimate competition, Fade seemed honestly happy to be working with her, which I think is noteworthy.

Anyway, I’d have liked it if Fade stuck around longer. Both he and Korinna would have had interesting things to show if they’d made it to Fashion Week. I had hopes that Korinna might mature, but she became quite toxic. I’d dislike her more, but for various reasons, she reminds me of me when I’m having a bad week/month/year.

I don’t remember Amanda from her previous season so I don’t remember what she was like. I don’t think she was particularly bitchy this season but she has some annoying mannerisms so I guess I can see how she gets on people’s nerves. I also wasn’t a fan of her style but I didn’t dislike her.
