I thought Emma Stone looked spectacular in that gown. The photos I saw, it looked slightly more green, not so dark.

Man, that Kini is a class act. Too classy – sorry, but don’t say “I can’t believe he didn’t say I made the top”. When you’re up there, say in a straightforward way, “I made the wedding outfit and the blouse”. I’m actually disappointed that (if) Tim didn’t tell the judges (maybe they edited it out for the Drama of the win).
It’s too bad Korina didn’t get called out for the trousers – Amanda carried her but she won’t see it that way.
I’m not sure who should have gone between Sandhya and Shar. I like them both but I do want to see more of Sandhya.
I liked Kini’s dress over Sean’s, so I thought he should have won. And yeah, if I was Kini I would have said I did the top.
As for the losing look, I did think that Char’s was worse. I liked Sandhya’s dress but hated the color. Alexander’s comment of corn on the cob was right on.
Yes, I think you’re right; Shar’s should have been easier to execute and therefore it’s worse that hers was so bad.
But I’ve thought more than once that the designers should have a couple of days. I understand the competition part (and yes, some folks make amazing things in one day (Kini)) but in real life, they will have more time to make a nicer look.
Agree with all of this, especially the point about Korina. I was dying for them to say something. Amanda’s dress was beautiful, and clearly carried Korina’s poorly constructed outfit.
And again, Korina doesn’t listen to constructive criticism! “I’m going to do my thing” – again, regardless of the challenge. Concentrating on those stupid lapels after Tim warned her.
Oh yeah, I forgot to ask, that last judge, where is she from? If they said then I didn’t hear it. She kept adding an “a” sound to a most of her words.
I’m not thrilled with Sandhya, and she was the one who picked that hideous yellow. I like Char as a person, but hers was clearly the worst designed and worst made.
I thought Tim’s comment was interesting: that he would have used his save if it were later in the season. I guess the question is, how does he view his save? Heidi describes it as “if he disagrees with the judges” – to me, that implies that he thinks someone else did a worse job that week. It is an elimination, someone has to be on bottom, and his save would presumably be if he thought the judges had the wrong person on bottom. Yes?
Last year (the first year of the save), he sort of wasted it, IMHO. He saved the deaf-guy, which was clearly a sympathy move, he got to the finals without ever having a weekly win. And the woman (I forget her name) who had several weekly wins got eliminated later, after the save was used up. I know, I know, they say that each week stands alone, but surely not when it comes to the finale: they want the best three at Fashion Week.
Her first name was Italian (Chiara or Chiari?) which it what I attributed her pronunciation to – she is a fashion blogger I believe.
Ah yes:

I thought they said “The Blonde Salad” but I couldn’t believe I had heard it right!
I’m trying to ignore her entitled, nasty attitude, but I sincerely hope Korina is gone soon. The sooner the better.
It’s not just her inflated opinion of her talent or her (gag) “design esthetic”. It’s because she’s a one-note, and not a good one.
I can’t believe Korina is still there. The top looked like the sailor dress I had when I was in 8th grade, and the pants didn’t fit. Char and Sandhya’s dresses were harrible though, both in color and execution. Char seemed like a nice person but her designs were forgettable. There should have been another double elimination–Char and Korina. Notice at the end Sean just about whispered “I couldn’t have done it without him” meaning Kini. Kini wuz robbed.
Thank you. When I hear a mock Italian accent it’s usually people making a soft “a” sound after every word. I didn’t realize there’s some truth to it after all.
It’s a good question. Based on his comment, I’m thinking he’s thinking of it as a cumulative effort type thing, that because of work done well into the season, he still wants to see more and the person should still have a chance. It’s a tough call though, because it means he thinks the judges got it wrong only that week, and yet he has the whole body of work in mind when deciding he wants to see more.
In short, I think it’s less that he thinks someone else did worse, and more that he wants to see more of the bottom person.
OKay, that action shot of Heidi wearing that blue dress totally screams car wash to me.
That second green wasn’t “jewel tone”, either. Just a blah blah green.
As for last night’s challenge, I thought the yellow was hideous. Maybe Sandhya was trying for saffron, but that wasn’t it. Char’s design and execution was off, though. Good for Sandhya for playing the game and asking outright for money. Considering how disliked she seems to be, I’m sure if the others had asked for the money first, they would’ve gotten it.
StG
I think it’s to her credit that she can elevate anything she wears. The dress to me looks more like a Victorian-era school marm or scullery maid outfit and actively tries to be as unflattering as possible to its wearer. But that’s the whims of fashion for you ![]()
Kini should have won, no question. He should have said, right there on the stage, that he made the dress and the top. Especially since it was the top that seemed to push “Sean’s” look over the top with at least a couple of the judges.
I was sorry to see Charketa go, because i really liked her, but that dress was a train wreck. I’ve been rooting for Sandhya, and defending her in this thread, but i would not want to be on a team with her. In neither of the team challenges has she shown the slightest inclination to compromise at all. She didn’t seem interested in what Char had to say during the planning session, and at Mood, when Char was making alternative suggestions for fabric, she just kept shaking her head, “No. No. No.”
I find Amanda annoying, but Korina is just completely without self-awareness, and she’s also nothing special as a designer. I would have had no problems with sending her home. And while i’ve disagreed with Amanda’s wins this season, you can hardly blame her for the judges’ decisions.
I had no idea who Deeta von Teese was. My wife had to explain it to me at the beginning of the show. But i’ll be quite happy if she never comes back. She annoyed the hell out of me during the judging, and in a few places she was just completely stupid in her criticism. As for the “blonde salad,” i suspected that the name might be an (unintentional) nod to her intellect, and reading a few entries on her website did not disabuse me of that notion.
And that’s it for my bitching this week.
Char made two terrible decisions this week – going along with that shade of yellow (and I don’t care how stubborn Sandhya is, there are other bright shades of yellow that aren’t as godawful ugly as that was – just a hint of creaminess to it would have helped immensely), and not making it clear to the judges who picked that shade of yellow.
Kini did a fantastic job creating his–difficult–garment (sleeves! lapels! giant ruffle!) in a short amount of time and I loved his team’s concept and they both did a good job but the design for Sean’s top was Sean’s. It was one of those deceptively simple shapes that looked dramatic when the model walked the runway. Sean drew it, did he make the pattern as well? Translating the sketch to the pattern is make-or-break time. Ditto if it was draped on the mannequin. Because assembling the pieces and speed-sewing is not as important.
Whose idea was it to use the leather? I know the judges reward designers who go outside of their comfort zone but if Char had never sewn leather before, she should’ve not tried it on a bodice where fit is critical. And that yellow was poisonous. I think both garments are equally bad but Sandhya had some wins and Char has been just safe all (?) of the time and that’s why Char left.
Tim’s comment was… strange. But maybe the producers included it so, combined with his comment in the previews, we will all speculate that Char is coming back. There have been untold times where dramatic comments or actions in the previews turn out a big ol’ meh when aired.
Because getting viewers talking about the show is cheaper than 2-day challenges.
It is very important when Sean would not have even had a top without Kini.
This is not just a design show, it’s a runway show. It doesn’t matter if you can design the greatest top in the world, if you can’t actually get the damned thing finished in time to walk down the runway. Had Kini not put Sean’s top together for him, Sean would have either had to spend a lot less time on the pants, or throw the top together in a few minutes, and either of those options might have resulted in a look that was unfinished or sloppy.
That was one of my favorite things about the episode. She reminded me of an Italian cartoon character. “It’s-a too short-a!” I’ve met many Italians, but she’s the first one I’ve ever heard actually speak English like that.
