I agree, Chris had a great presentation, but the human hair did him in. Too creepy. I’m not sure why, it just was.
And Romi and the draping. Yeah, enough already. But I think he nailed that silver and black dress.

Chris had other dresses that would have been much more impressive, yet he chose two with the creepy human hair even after Tim warned him about it. I’ve seen his collection and his other dresses were much better. Dammit Chris, I wanted to see you in the top 3!
That said, I am so annoyed that he did something innovative and creative and with all their talk about being fashion forward they still went and gave the last spot to the guy that keeps doing the same thing.
Fashion forward my ass. Michael Kors was easily one of the worst Spring 2008 collections I saw. It literally looked like he shit out some of the outfits.
I’m very disappointed Chris was dumped in favor of Rami. I thought that black and silver dress was hideous, and the ball gown with the pannier ruching was awful. The jacket wasn’t all that hot, either. I don’t think what he made would be very flattering on women’s bodies. Boo hiss, Rami. Chris, though, made some stuff that I really loved. I didn’t think the hair was creepy at all, probably because I’ve been exposed to so much Victorian hair jewelry. His collection was feminine but not weak.
I also really liked Michael Kors’ collection. I thought it was fun and retro – very '50s/'60s. I would wear pieces from it if I could begin to afford it. What about it particularly did you not like, ZebraShaSha?
Could someone link to the collections, please?
I’m enough of a cynic to believe the judges had already made up their collective mind to dump Chris. I’m sure they were afraid his collection would be too tranny.
I really loved Chris’s until I found out it was human hair.
Then I was really creeped out.
Then, I was creeped out even more when I realized I still really liked it - and still can’t quite figure out what the hell that says about me.
In general, I liked Chris’s better than Rami’s. Rami’s wasn’t bad…just not as interesting. Also, his evening dress didn’t fit as well…Rami’s model looked like she was carrying a dress around her rather than wearing one.
Michael Kors: Project Rungay: Michael Kors Fall 2008 Collection
I honestly don’t understand why the judges were so upset about the hair. It’s okay to put fake hair on your head but not your collar? What’s the big deal? People are strange.
Looking at Michael Kors’ collection, that one hideous checked wool coat with the fur collar looks exactly like the ghastly coat my mother had back in the ‘60s! I hated that thing with such a passion! :: shudder :: But otherwise, his collection looked far more “wearable” that most of the PR designers’ stuff – even Sweet P’s!
It’s so freaking librarian! Most designers focused either on the '50s or '60s this time around, and instead of really being innovative with it, he made generic, bland clothes for the B celebrities he now caters to.
Here’s an example of '50s influence done right: http://frillr.com/DonnaKaranSpringSummer2008Womens/
Now, what would you rather wear, Donna Karen or Michael Kors?
Also, there’s a vast difference in what the contestants can do and what Kors is supposed to. Kors is a fashion house and as such probably has 10 people working on a varied line almost a year in advance. I’m not sure how the contestants get their clothes to the runway, but I’m positive they are not doing any color forcasting, marketing trends, whatever. They are essentially being told to design in a vacuum, whatever you’d like to make, go for it. You can’t really hold them to the same expectations, in other words.
honestly? If I had the figure for them? Kors. DK’s color pallette was dull, the only thing of hers I liked was the white top/black skirt reminscent of Dior’s “New Look”.
and by the way - if one of the harshest critique the contestants could hear was “we’ve seen it before” what are this season’s professionals’ lines all about? Not just Kors and DK but the British designer the “Make Me A Supermodel” contestants wore last night as well
It was funny how they praised Rami for not coming out with 3 draped greek dresses and doing something different, however the only thing they liked of his was the draped dress.
They guy has a career for sure in making dresses but no one is going to buy a coat/jacket/shirt/pant etc. from him since he has no clue on how to make one.
Chris should have just lied about the hair saying it was fake hair. It just turned them off and made them biased towards it.
Christian will be typical Christian with everything having that sort of equestrian look to it.
Jillian will probably have the most varied, wearable, unique, marketable, well built stuff. As long as she gives it some edge I think she is my odds on favorite.
My question is…where did Chris GET the hair!!!
I really liked what he was doing…sure, the hair thing was a little weird, but a lot of runway fashion is. It’s supposed to be conceptual. If you made the stuff Chris did into ready-to-wear, you’d figure out something else to use like fake fur or feathers or something.
I didn’t care much for Rami’s stuff. I wanted Chris to get the spot, but I figured Rami would when I saw the reaction to the hair.
Why the ?!?!?! ? They’re extension/weave tracks that thousands/millions of people use all the time.
I thought his collection was fabulous. The use of human hair was brilliant. Not only was it different, but it worked on different levels:
the human hair reminded me of hair jewelry and mourning wreaths made out of hair from the Victorian era. While his clothing was more Edwardian and flapper style, the overall ‘dark older elegance’ tied in perfectly with this slightly morbid choice.
it could also point out the odd attitudes that many have. Heidi and the others wouldn’t have blinked at leather or fur, where animals died so we can wear them, but got grossed out at human hair, where no one died to have it put on the jackets. Whether or not that was an intended statement of his, it’s an interesting one.
it worked really well with his other materials. It wasn’t just a stunt, where he tacked on human hair to be EDGY and MEMORABLE, but it really looked like it belonged on the skirt and jacket.
Chris obviously knew going in that using the human hair was going to be shocking. That was very clear in how he told Tim that, and in how he revealed it on the runway. He was going for the shock value. They were shocked. The results were predictable.
Rami’s stuff may have been rather boring, and (some) drapey, but he obviously grudgingly made some concessions to the judges complaining about draping. The judges complained about Chris doing costumes. He sent a bunch of Tim Burton-ish costumes down the runway. Again, the results were predictable.
Moreover, anyone who has watched this show should know that you ignore Tim Gunn’s advice at your peril. He’s occasionally out-of-sync with the judges, but not often. What he mentioned to Rami and Chris was exactly what the judges honed in on. I suspect that Sister Christian won’t lose the feather pants as Tim hinted, and those results, too, will be predictable. So… Jillian FTW?
The !!! was because I didn’t know that extensions and weaves were real hair! I seriously didn’t. I still ask…where does it come from? Do people sell it or something?
Palestinian, not Israeli. Close, though.
Didn’t see all of the reunion–where did Chris obtain this real hair from? Inquiring minds need to know!
Personally, I’d wear Donna Karan’s line before Kors. Kors had one dress I sort of liked…I really liked most of the Donna Karan stuff, though.
This was my thought. They asked, “Is it goat?”, as if it would have been fine had the hair come from a goat, but a human was right out. I could understand their horror if this were “Top Chef”, but hair extensions and natural hair wigs are far from obscure these days.
Yeah, the reaction to the hair was just bizarre. It looked great.
I thought he said his mother was Miss Jordan.
Count me in among those who thought Chris should have won. I thought Chris’s designs were more avant-garde and would have fit in better at fashion week. The hair didn’t creep me out in the least. Sure, he took a huge risk with it, but it’s fresh and interesting and I could definitely see that becoming popular in high-end fashion. What a great alternative for those who oppose the use of animal fur. Rami’s designs were just all right, and I actually hated the black and white dress. He doesn’t stand a chance against Christian and Jillian.
