Project Runway, 8/30

Once again, I’m just baffled as to why Vincent is still on the show. Sure, Angela’s outfit was hideous, but they almost always go with hideous over boring. Not only was Vincent’s look painfully dull, it wasn’t even well-made; the pants were OK, but the blacks didn’t match and the shirt didn’t fit him right.

I didn’t get the Kayne hate, either. It looked like something a gay Texan might wear, so if he was designing something for himself, I’d say he hit the nail on the head.

Jeffrey is an ass, but he can make some damn nice clothes when he’s into it. If I weighed 100 pounds less and had anyplace interesting to go, I’d totally wear that outfit from last night, Bedazzled crotch and all.

I’ve been rooting for Uli as well, but she really is going to have to do something different next time. I happen to love her look, but it’s getting too predictable.

Michael is hard to beat at this point. If Jeffrey pulls the stick out of his ass and runs the table for the rest of the challenges, he might have a chance.

I liked Uli’s dress on the runway, but she looked sort of silly walking through the airport holding it up like a nightgown. The front was very wrinkled when she arrived. It would have been cute if it was short.

Did Laura know whe was going to wear the dress before she selected the color fabric?
It would have been a beautiful color on her model.

Yep.

And Jeffrey said he couldn’t make Angela’s mom a tailored jacket in one day. I think this is probably true. He was making a jacket for himself, which he has presumably done before, and at any moment he can measure the appropriate piece of fabric and him and get the right size. If he were making a jacket for a model he could build it on the dress form and know that the girl he’s putting it on is within some tiny amount of being exactly the same size as the form. Making a jacket for Angela’s mom seems to me like it starts with “Here’s a jacket which is more or less the right size, I hope Mrs. Fleurchon comes soon so I can make it actually fit her, but not so soon that I haven’t finished the jacket yet and have nothing to fit.”

Even Angela aknowledged that making a jacket for yourself is totally different from making one for someone else.

Uli was horrible on the runway. She looked like she was towing something. Completely failed to “work it.”
The dress looked ok - but it’s my least favorite of the Uli creations, and it was getting a little one note.

Jeff is still an ass. But his outfit was pretty ok.

Kayne… please, please do better next time. It did look Elvis-y. I think it would have worked with a different pant color. At least it traveled well.

Fleurchons are still stupid.

Michael is the one to beat.

I love Michael. Not only is he a wonderful designer, but he is so gracious. When Jeffrey won, he cheered for him and seemed genuinely pleased. His comments always center on his thought process and never veer into cattiness. He seems genuinely focued, happy to be there, and grateful for the opportunity. I’d be cheering for him even if his designs didn’t routinely rock me.

As for Jeffrey, I hated his outfit. As far as a rocker outfit, it’s like something I’ve seen Steven Tyler in since I was six. Bo-ring.

Kayne would have made a pretty tight ice skater.

Loved Laura’s dress, and I thought she would have won if she picked a cardigan and flip flops and then took the cardigan off and changed into heels.

Fasionably impared individually checking in:

Michael deserved to win over Jeffrey’s “Ric Ocasik in 1985” look. I think the only reason he didn’t win it was because the producers and judges didn’t want him to win 3 in a row.

Jeffrey’s outfit- hated it and hated him.

Kayne and Uli are simply cannon fodder now - they’ll probably be the next two to go. Too bad, I like them both.

Vincent should have gone home - he slept through the challenge and made his own PJs.

Angela’s outfit was awful, though.

As to Laura, her clothes are fine, but I like her even less than Jeffrey. I hate her catty, elitist crap, which started in episode 1- “I would never be one of those mommies with a mini-van wearing sweats”, “They have civilization in Ohio? Well welcome to my world and bask in my reflected glory, and I’m glad you escaped the hell of the fly-over states.” Aaargh, I can’t wait for her to be eliminated. Too bad it won’t be for a while.

I loved Michael teaching Vincent how to work the runway.

I suspect the reason Vincent stayed is because his outfit, conservative as it was, was pure Calvin Klein, and the guest judge in New York, don’t forget, was a guy from Calvin Klein. Also, his outfit definitely traveled well; in that regard, he had it all over Angela.

Besides, as this week’s winner of the Jubilee Jumbles award (presented by Tim in his podcast), Angela so deserved aufing it wasn’t even funny. If I’m not mistaken, she even had granny circles on the straps of that hideous top, in addition to on her butt and on that ghastly bag she lumbered down the runway with.

I hate Jeffrey and his hypocrisy so much that I can’t even be bothered to look at his outfit beyond recognizing that it might have been original…in about 1986. Fashion forward? Not in this universe. And I’m still wondering how he got through security at the airport with his Bedazzled crotch. I also noticed the jacket in one day issue; what a hypocrite. He definitely lacks Santino’s charm; plus he’s just completely repulsive and hideous to look at.

And Jeffrey? You might want to take lessons from Michael on how to be a gracious loser. Also on how to be a gracious winner. Because you are neither!

Michael didn’t win last week, Reloy3, but I agree he should have won this week and could have won last week. Really, I feel like he’s won this thing for design and for popularity, hands down, but they have to give other designers W’s just to keep the show interesting.

If you’d told me “the hip hip guy” was the most pleasant and likeable contestant, I would have looked at you funny. But he is.

And fashion forward, and possessed of impeccable taste, superlative sewing skills, and interesting ideas. He’s also humble, takes advice in stride and implements it. Haven’t heard a bad word about him yet. The previous two seasons didn’t have anyone this nice or consistent. It’s really kind of uncanny how all-around good he is. If he doesn’t win this thing, the game is rigged.

I agree with all of that Rubystreak. Plus, he calls his mother!

I think the bottom ranks of this week’s show were determined by one factor, those stupid rosettes on the ass of Angela’s pants (or pants-like things). They were what put her outfit over from merely atrocious to must be euthanized. If it weren’t so obviously bad, and an unmistakable sign of her pathological rosette fixation, she might have survived another week as an interesting character creating tension.

Had she not been required to be on the chopping block, it would have been Elvis v. boring. I think Vincent got cut a huge break because he hadn’t ever done menswear before. That the CK designer was the guest judge helped, too. (Note that the disclaimer at the end of the show specifically says that the producers talk to the judges and influence their decisions, so don’t think that these decisions are made on the runway appearance alone.) In a Kayne v. Vincent head to head, boring would have lost to hideous, but when the two most vibrantly bad outfits caused the match up to be hideous v. gag-inducing, we know what happened.

On the winners side, that Michael’s was a better all around outfit than Jeffrey’s (and I loved that when late in the game Tim suggested that he make a major change from a jacket to a shirt, Michael did so flawlessly). However, Jeffrey’s outfit was SO him, and I’m sure they didn’t want to give too many wins to Michael. Not a bad choice.

Angela has good ideas, but she needs help to reign her in. :frowning:

:smack:
I now know why I find him so attractive!
Penishead/Dickhead

But i think Kayne might have had a better reception had he used a different color yellow or lime green!!

I just want to chime in and say I predict the final 3 will be Michael, Laura, and Jeffrey

You are probably right-- they have to have their Santino of the season, though I’d rather it was Michael, Laura, and Uli. Would that be too boring, with everyone liking each other and not being horrendous all the time?

I predict Michael will win. At least I hope so.

I also predict someone puts a plastic bag over Jeffrey’s head before the show is over.

Off topic but someone at the Runway Blog said they went to Chloe’s store (last season’s winner) and an XL t-shirt was a size 8-10.

I wonder if Jeffrey is just being a dick because Santino is a friend of his. He seems to be emulating Santino a little too closely for it to be genuine.

That said, what is up with all of these reality guys who use their bodies as Post-It[sup]TM[/sup] notes? Every time I look at him I just keep thinking of the two guy on Survivor who looked just like him, and also used their bodies as Post-It[sup]TM[/sup]s. Which make me think of the movie Memento which I hated, which pisses me off, which makes me hate all of them collectively.

Anyway. Angela deserved the loss, Laura should have won. I mean, it was a beautiful dress, well constructed, and damn, it didn’t have a wrinkle on it! I liked Michael’s outfit, but the strings were weird. I did not like Jeffrey’s outfit, the bedazzled crotch was totally ugly, and the fit was off (did he make the bedazzled t-shirt? I didn’t see him working the glue gun). Vincent’s shirt did not fit him well. It bunched up oddly around the neck, but it was wearable. But Uli was a mess. He dress did not travel well, and why did she not so something with her hair and make-up?

Michael better win this thing or I’m never watching again.

I liked MIchael a little bit better than Jeffrey, but given that Michael won the trash challenge when Jeffrey should have it all evens out. The thing about Michael, for me is that he so much more thoughtful about what he is making. I think Michael Kors expressed the same thing a few weeks ago, Michael really thinks about it. The others just seem to do a bit of, “Hey, I want to do this!” Michael is more, what is this challenge about and how do I do it my way.
